Like it was just some ponies doing some pony stuff, saving the pony world from the evil pony queen, lol. Seemed like semi so bad its good, but still I'm not sure if its just bad... Could some of you fellow bronies explain to me what is up with this show.   | ||

I'm not sure if my contest-winning essay on why I liked MLP was ever linked, but it's from early November 2011 and is buried somewhere in there, too. GM's linked post is very good at explaining lots of fundamental reasons why the show is good, too. | ||

That being said, to be honest, the first few episodes didn't really grab me. At first, I only watched it 'cuz I really liked Fluttershy (reminded me of a good friend), but my interest shifted pretty dramatically to Pinkie Pie and became the main reason why I watch the show. The other "d'awww" moments became bonus for me. All in all, it's a very cute show with an awesomely funny character for me. | ||

I maintain that many bronies just like the cuteness, and some of them in more questionable ways than others. =) As a kid I totally wanted to hump Rei from NGE, that's fine. | ||

I think a lot of guys are too insecure about their masculinity to actually give it a fair shot. They won't even watch it in private. For myself, my junk is all the man-cred I need. And I think those little ponies are so cute! And dat Ashleigh Ball, rawr. | ||

If every modern cartoon developed a subculture equal to it's quality (like the MLP subculture claims to be) then every post on every website on the internet would be spammed with nonstop discussion about cartoons. I wish that fans of this show could understand that no one cares how ironic it is that your show is 'actually really good,' because there are dozens of shows seemingly targeted at children that actually appeal to adults. Spongebob Squarepants is the only show with a remotely similar sensation, except it doesn't have a homoerotic stigma about it, so it isn't nearly as ironic to like it. Thus, its young-adult fanbase didn't become psychotically obsessed with posting about how much they like it, and why everyone else should too. Ren & Stimpy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Rocko's Modern Life, The Misadventures of Flapjack, Cow & Chicken, Ed, Edd, & Eddy, etc are all examples of the same type of cartoons that give adults a way to sit with their children and actually enjoy what they are watching, rather than having to suffer through something like Dora the Explorer. I would claim that every one of these shows I mentioned is better than MLP, which isn't meant to sway anyone away from their favorite pony show, but rather to show that fans of these other shows simply do not act so retardedly as the fans of MLP seem to insist on acting. This isn't about hating the show, or even just hating the people. It's about the cultural invasion that these people seem bring to all other areas of the internet. It's about how they jump all over that little bait and switch about how they aren't homosexuals (no one cares about your sexual orientation, nor are they even usually referring to it, when they call you a faggot online), and that you'd like the show too if you watched it, but they seem to think that those facts somehow justify their behavior. As if everyone who liked a show is going to start molding their online identity around it, and posting about it habitually for months or even years now. I just hate so much about the way they choose to be, and don't care at all about the cartoon they like. | ||
