Well shit - here we are again, 6am.
I'm awake, watching streams, although I've at least convinced myself to get off ladder and stop playing for the night.
I can feel that my eyes are tired, but if I lay down my mind is racing. I slept until noon today - probably has something to do with it. I have to be at the hospital at 8:30am for work. What the hell am I doing? Why did I stay up so late?
I remember looking at the clock and seeing 3am, thinking "oh, that's not so late. I can play one more game." Then I watched a few replays. Then I watched Destiny, then I checked my email (as if anyone is going to email me at 4am. NewEgg says hello!)
I checked out the deal On Newegg, looked at the clock. Shit. 4:30am. I should go to bed. I logged off ladder, laid down in bed, but switched on TLO's stream. Epic game, had to get out of bed and watch closer, couldn't see timer or supply count.
During the week, I tend to go to bed earlier and earlier, or I spend all morning fucking exhausted because I went to bed at 8am. I'm slightly late to work - nobody notices because I don't have to clock in, but I'm still late. I'm never late. Why don't I care if I'm late?
Medical school apps are in - I'm waiting for secondaries. I'm stressed about it. My one rec letter is taking forever to get in. Fucking people. I told her in February and asked for a letter, we had lunch, "consider it written, Justin." Well whoopdie fuckin' doo, here we are, Mid-july, and every week you ask me when the deadline is. It was four freaking weeks ago.
Sorry. Off-topic derail is off-topic.
Anyways, I love the feeling of getting up early and getting shit done. I feel so productive. I love gaming, but why can't I game at normal hours? Why can't I get up at 7am, shower, eat breakfast, go to work, come home at 5, work out, play games and go to bed by midnight?
I'm hoping TL will have some advice. Should I pull one all nighter and just suffer through it and not allow myself to sleep until 11pm or midnight? or 10pm? Or should I force myself to go to bed early, even though I'm not tired? (I could probably sleep - I can sleep pretty much any time).
I'm not willing to take sleeping pills or anything silly. It's my fault my clock is so off. I'm just looking for ways to get me functioning like a normal person and get off this silly schedule. I can feel my eyes fogging up, I'm starting to get tired NOW. It's 6:30am. I need to be at work in two hours. This is no good.
Thanks in advance TL~
EDIT; Tl;dr - TLO, WHY U SO ENTERTAINING?

Man i'm happy its summer. Only when i dont have class do i let it get bad.
If its nocturnal as in you work best at night you're gonna have to switch your schedule around. But if its just for now cause its sunmer lol i just let it run its course and have that first shitty day and my body falls back into place. If it gets bad, year do a 24 hour day and remember coffee goes at the end.
But since what you want is a fix, move around the other things you do. Work out before a normal sleep time, eat at good times, and let your body get used to normal schedules. Read before bed, no electronics, do yogs, etc lol.
Best of luck with your med school stuff. If youre willing to go through that, try to will your body into just working normally.

Thanks for the advice. I've heard that, no electronics before bed. I've really been trying to get back into reading. I should go hit up Barnes & Noble and buy myself some good sci-fi fantasy books that I love so much and make myself read a half hour before bed. That might help. No streams or starcraft or any of that.
Yeah, it is summer and I don't have class, but I will in the fall. I do however have a lab fellowship - I should get into work around 10 or 11am every day, but I usually end up there around noon because I'm a lazy ass.
I've always been a night owl, but it's just getting a little out of control.

Sleeping in until noon in no way means you're nocturnal, try getting to sleep at 9am and sleeping until 5pm! Then you'll really hate life. Pulling an all nighter (or all-dayer) will probably be the best choice, and has worked for me in the past. Just make sure to continue to exercise and eat properly and have no electronics about 2 hours before bed time, and don't try to make excuses for pushing back your bed time! In fact, it being 7am right now I think I'll have to try the all nighter today. I just lay in bed for hours on end being uncomfortable and restless, and this has been happening for about a week now. So if you want we can go the day together to make sure we don't fall asleep
As for books, I recommend the short stories of J.G. Ballard. Great for a quick read before bed and to get lost in a story.
edit: i may just pass out now lol, we'll see

I used to struggle a lot with sleeping and staying up late. To be honest I still do, but I'm much better now. I'm unemployed so you can maybe imagine that without anything to wake up to, it's quite easy to stay up for a few extra hours.
Anyway, what I did was that I set up times, like a schedule, that I set my alarm to and times I go to bed. For me, I decided that I should go to bed at 1am every night (regardless of how tired I was), and stop any kind of activities (read: Starcraft or other gaming) that requires concentration or taxes the brain one hour before I go to sleep - in my case at midnight. This last hour before bed I usually spend watching TV series, anime, reading or some other passive activity. After 1-2 weeks my body got into this rhythm and started to wake up around 9 regardless of if I've set the alarm or not!
Today, while doing this for a few months, I'm still quite nocturnal (I blame the WoW days during my teen years! :p) but I still try to go to bed around 1am-1:30am. I avoid any kinds of naps during daytime, since they make it very hard to sleep later for me. I'm not as strict during weekends, but I try to never wake up later than 11am (for extreme occasions), preferably never later than 10am. For example, during weekends I might stay up 1-2 hours extra and wake up the same amount of hours later than I normally do.
TL;DR : Establish a schedule, follow it even tho you hate it, see if it works out, no gaming atleast 1 hour prior to going to bed. Not as strict during weekends.

I feel for you, dude. I'm a freelancer, so I don't have a boss with a clock over my shoulder but even then, getting up late and being uncontactable or audibly sleepy on the phone is non-ideal. At the same time, I can't really play effectively on ladder much past 2 a.m. or even already at that hour. Watching Day9 or commentated games tends to be the logical solution. The day after feels the same, as in already tired around 5 p.m., just like after a real day of work, regardless of having got up late.
Dunno about the solution but the cause at least in my case seems to be linked with inability or unwillingness to call it a night. Well, to give up, wind up the day, just go to bed, relax, fall asleep. Ditching electronics, going for books instead, not eating much before sleep, getting physically exhausted before bed time, pulling all-nighters/dayers rather than going to bed late and getting up late, seem to be semi-decent fixes. By contrast, caffeine messes things up without necessarily helping much (my vet says caffeine has the effect of perpetuating whatever condition you're in, including a tired one etc., so not good if you want to stay fresh). If you've got some problems in life that aren't letting you sleep (worried, frustrated etc.), or some other psychic blocks that prevent you from sleeping, you may need to go see the doctor for insomnia. Insomnia seems to be a serious problem but generally underestimated.
For the record, I too went to bed after 6 today morning.

Why is this a concern, you seem to have developed a cycle around the things you enjoy doing. You'll naturally fix it in accordance to the things you need to do as they become bigger priorities than the things you enjoy doing.

It's only a problem because I like to function during the day. Especially since I have to work, hang out with a GF, train for tennis season, and get ready for classes to begin soon.
I also have a lot of secondaries to fill out now. They all piled in this morning. Woot. Get ALL the secondaries!

Tylenol PMs everyday all day. Or more appropriately, all night every night.
