Square-Enix recently unveiled their new next generation engine in E3. They showcased a Real-Time demo running the engine which was titled "Agnis Philosophy". The demo is a mere concept idea and it may or may not be used in an actual game down the line.
My initial thoughts were on how detailed the characters and environment looked while being rendered in Real-Time. The demo was obviously running on a high-end PC, but Next-Gen consoles will hopefully be able to use the engine as well as it looked in the tech-demo .
While the demo was indeed jaw dropping, I would really love if Square-Enix took a note back from their pre-FFX era and delved into a more expansive and deep world. I enjoyed FF 13 and FF13-2, however they didn't resonate with me as much as the pre-FFX era games did. The series moved away towards a much more streamlined and narrow approach which I didn't particular hate.But I do want the world map back, I want Towns back, I want an incredible story back. All these elements have been lackluster from the series in the last couple of years.
With Versus 13 I thought that this might actually come to an end and we might finally get a fantastic entry that the series needed but that game is now nowhere to be found. Hopefully it gets released sometimes before the Next-Gen because I really don't want square taking the game on hardware they are not fimilar with yet and end up not making the game as polished as it should be.
Either ways, I'm excited about what the future holds for the series. Hopefully ,starting with Verus 13, we finally get a game that truly hits the jackpot and gives the fans the Final Fantasy title they deserve.

Damn. SE always did know how to make a good and interesting cutscene/opening, really wish they would stop making new FF's and make Kingdom Hearts 3 already, jesus fuck.

haha. There are a bunch of different designers, Nomura has been the character designer for for the FF13 series, he is usually the one responsible for the over the top crazy looks. Some of them work well , while the others looks a bit too silly.

I thought the engine was good, but it doesn't matter if they don't make good games with it. As far as final fantasy goes, it has been kinda lame. I did enjoy 13 and 13-2 but I did not love them. I always hopped they would go back to that forumula they used in the 90s for these games, it would make great games.

sure it looks nice, but then so did the painted environments you get in FF7 ten years ago (hell so did ff7's cutscenes). if they spend enough time on something itll look good nomatter what. whether or not anyone is ever going to want to play another game like ff13-2 is another story..

I gave up with ff12 returned it within 5 hours of playing it the morning after the launch.. its so sad.. the whole.. final fantasy thing truly. My fav has always been 8 I play it on my psp every now and then

My first thought was that its probably going to have a development time of a decade. And it'll probably suck when its released.

Looks great. Too bad I grew out of Final Fantasy games after 10. They just stopped making stories I could enjoy and used equally unenjoyable game mechanics to convey them.
I doubt I'd buy it if it were console exclusive and even then it would have to have some pretty incredible reviews to tempt be if it came back to PC.
