I've been having some good luck on the ladder the last couple of days and put together a 12 game win streak at one point. The funny thing was the more I won in a row the more tense I got everytime I pressed the find match button. This feeling I was getting reminded me a lot of when I first started playing poker some 20 years ago. It was the feeling itself that triggered my memory and I immediately realized a hole in my play I needed to patch up quickly. I went through my last 4 replays and sure enough I had started playing more and more passively each game most of the time reacting to unseen threats that never manifested themselves.
My ego had reared it's ugly head again....
When I get too involved in the winning and losing instead of just making good decisions with the information available to me, I know right there that I am getting in the way of my improvement with a huge mental roadblock. I had to delve back into the poker lessons of my earlier years and realize that losing has benefits, especially when learning, that far outweigh the winning. If I begin to play "not to lose" instead of trying to win, I've already lost. Just like in poker, the worst way to play SCII imo, is weak tight. For the non poker players, that would mean you turtle hard with no timing attacks in mind and preparing for every threat the opponent could throw at you. The result is giving your opponent full map control allowing him to expand freely and the ability to dictate engagements. It's a 100% guaranteed way to lose every game. Lucky for me I had a previous life experience to fall back on to get my head straight quickly and back on the right track.
Any of you had this problem?

Yes, this could actually help when hots comes!
I haven't lost a game since two seasons, but only played about 15 games each, part of it because of this thought that I gotta loose, Nobody can keep up 100%. On the other hand, best time to end laddering all together, on top of my game :D.

Well not exactly. A lot of times in TvZ I'll get to the point where I just don't get counters (almost always to infestors or 3/5 Ultras, Marines for life!). I keep telling myself I'll just get much more shit than him and eventually just steamroll him. Then I slowly die (all my games where I get this mentality the game are over 30minutes). After the watching the replay a few times I'll put ridiculous stipulations on my play that will only last a game or two.
