Before I had played against him on a regular basis I had felt very threatened when facing R but after some practice against him I learned how to scout effectively and even if he was cheesing it would just turn into a Pv(his race) and not vs R. I dunno why people get so pissed when they see a R player.
Much respect for being able to play all 3 races at a high level. I don't know when that became something people looked down on and were afraid of.
I also have to say R players do not "put themselves at a disadvantage". If they can play the race and know the mu they can in fact play against every scenario. You can practice against specific builds
No they can't. Like I said, they never play against FFE for example. They also start the game with a 50-100 mineral advantage due to the fact that the other player has to send a scout early or build buildings at his ramp. Being in such a situation means that you can skimp on units, not have to worry about certain timings etc... That's far from knowing how to play the race.

I did this for a while on a smurf. While it was only going through gold-plat at the time, less than half the players believed I was telling the truth... (Lots of surprised expressed upon finding out), so I'm not sure how much use it is .

I feel ya fab integral. I get the same hate when i play random. It sucks, but what can you do about it, we're definitely in the minority even amongst other random players.

I cheese blind everytime I meet a random player, I don't like starting the game at a disadvantage purely because of what they chose on the race select screen

Blah, I'm done with SC2 for a while. Played 7 games today, won 2, lost 5. The2 were macro games in tvp and zvz, the 5 losses were to proxy 2rax scv allin, 2 4gates, and a 2base protoss allin (closest to a macro game I've gotten, had 3 bunkers up w/ stim with mass scvs pulled to repair but alas, protoss gateway units are indeed retarded^^).
Gonna go play Shogun 2. /rant
EDIT: At least no one has told me to kill myself today^^. That only happens when I win though.... which hasn't happened at all in a while.
EDIT2: After watching the last rep the 2base protoss wasn't even allin, just being aggressive with gateway units .
EDIT3: Just played another 15 games, 9 were allins, BALLS. I need to get better at stopping 4gate...

I last played with any "seriousness" in season 1, but my experience was that randoms were likely to proxy two-gate, proxy reaper(shudder)/3-rax, or 6-pool. I peaked at Diamond, but the people that could compete as a Random (even with "cheesy" builds) had my respect. Still, I am 38 years old, and emotional maturity allowed me to take losses as the lessons they were. I also realized that, in the case of frustrating losses, in order for my opponent to win, he had to... you guessed it... frustrate me.
I also realized that good sportsmanship isn't something to take for granted.

I made the switch to playing Random at the weekend and im having a blast!
Just been demoted to Platinum after being in Diamond and occasionally hopping into (and quickly getting out of) Masters league in EU and now I have a fun target of getting back into Diamond as Random.
At the moment I cant decide if its just being in Plat or if people just cant play a normal game vs a random player. In the last 10 or so games I have had...
1 base banshee with cloak vs me as P 4 gate DT thing vs me as Z Lots of 1 basing SCV train stim timings
I'm not sure if this is what Plat is all about or wether me being Random cripples their ability to play, I expect the former.
Also had one person saying 'Thanks for waisting my time' at the start of the game.

I've been running around as random and doing this whenever people glhf or anything else indicative of good manner at the beginning of games; I glhf in every game I play and usually get a response back, so this is most of my games. It feels like 90% of them or so at least hesitantly believe me (to the point where they will FFE as P when I'm Z, but also there's earlier worker scouts in other matchups). I don't face too many all-ins though, so this is possibly just a consequence of where I'm at in the ladder (~750 master NA for reference).
