Something that has irked me so much about playing Random since I started is how fast the community can turn to dicks. Personally, I've made efforts to not insult anyone, even by saying something petty like "you're bad" at the end of the game or what not (possible exception for team games). However, there's a massive stigma I did not realize when I started playing random.

I've played all 3 races before by picking, and by now playing random, and I can say first hand while there is whining about each race, nothing has come close to what I've experienced with random. The number of people that I've been civil with on ladder in the past now tell me to kill myself, die from cancer, hope I get AIDS, or the most recent amusing one from x6Perfect was "go fuck your own mother's loose vagina you stupid fucking random player" whatever... of course, none of it matters really I don't take it personally and can even get a laugh from it.

But it's nearing 50% of my games I have to deal with some nonsense bullshit now. What really ticks me the most though is the perception Random players are cheesers. I can only say this is the furthest from the truth from what I've experienced. I don't think I've experienced a random person "cheese" in almost any encounter, EVER. It's extremely rare. However, if you count my last 40 games, about 25 have been early game allins/cheeses by the opposing player. The last 9 games in a row were all cheese, not a single macro game. It's become so ungodly frustrating playing this style. Looking at my match history, I just encountered an allin baneling bust from ~20ish drones that I lost to, a 14/14 baneling bust, a 4gate, another 4gate, a 1 base 3gate into dt rush (pvt), a 2base allin baneling bust, a speedling allin, another 4gate, another 4gate, and then FINALLY a macro game from a terran player...

So you might say, why not blindly prepare against them? I try. I really do. What's ironic is that I start to prepare for them by pumping out early troops (say extra speedlings in ZvP), and then if they try to expand, I'm screamed at for it (putting on pressure with lings).

Yes, this is a rant, no you don't have to tell me that allins are part of the game. I realize it. Understand this is just coming from a pissed off player who's lost to a shitton of allins today. I utilize allins myself, but to the degree I've experienced them in the past few weeks are driving my crazy.

tl;dr. Players who play Random rarely cheese. Players who play against Random cheese at an exponentially high level, if not simply because they feel they are at a BO disadvantage. Even if you think an allin is likely, if you haven't scouted it, you don't want to put yourself behind in a macro game by blindly preparing. Random is just so frustrating to play, even if you have a good grasp at all 3 races.

P.S. I'm high masters. A the start of the day my first four games were all vs people top 20 GM. Played LiquidRet twice yesterday when he was in his "cheese mode" (go figure), when I lost to him I got -13, when I won I only got +11, so that gives you a view on my MMR, since Ret is also high GM on NA.

Yeah I've noticed an urge to cheese random players, there is a little voice that says he won't have as much experience vs this specific allin in this specific matchup, dooooo itttt.

It's actually tough to fight.

Maybe players who play random do not like to cheese against other randoms, since they won't know your race and can't really initialize a starting build. But randoms may cheese/all-in particular races due to the fact that they know limited builds for 9 different match-ups.

Just frustrating to open gateway and figure out they're zerg. It sets me off my game as I feel ffe is way better. Secondly, hitting a PvR on taldarim altar is the most frustrating experience in existence. I win like 5% of games PvR on taldarim, as if you're protoss my 9 scout puts everything behind and if you're zerg, it's like impossible to lose unless you severely fuck up.

Have you considered just switching off between playing the other races? That would avoid placing you in this scenario.

I am more likely to cheese vs a random b/c from the first second of the game I'm already behind b/c i have to go a safe non specific opening or scout early, neither are really a huge deal but I is still frustrating.

That would remove his advantage. :p

Basically most randoms i play use random as a crutch. They learn 1 build for each race and its usually using the fact that they have IMMEDIATE scouting knowledge of what race the other player is to pick that race. The fact is that most races have 1 magic opener that works in almost every matchup, zerg especially, terran slightly less so, protoss VERY much less so, with 1 gate FE varying hugely from FFE, etc. Its a huge advantage if you end up being zerg vs protoss and the protoss didn't ffe as it is the only truly stable opener vs zerg, even 1 gate fe doesn't work that well. Mainly its just that most random players cheese, a lot and this schema makes the rest of us play too defensively that it messes up against macro-ing randoms like yourself. Really i think that random should not be an option and that you should just allow a random choice before queing up through B.Net that would allow people to randomly play all the races and not allow them to have this created advantage.

Hey why did you go to random fabled? We were in the same division a couple seasons ago, and I don't recall you being random then.

Instead of playing actual "random" why not do what day 9 does and roll a die before every game then actually pick that race based on the number you assigned to that race?

Not really, before playing random I played specific races and never noticed this tendency either, but it's only anecdotal evidence I guess.

Concerning TDA, I understand that, but most of the time besides that I don't. I disagree that 1gate FE is substantially different than Forge FE, but to each his own. I actually feel 1gate FE is a superior build if you can pull it off (maps like shakuras it's quite easy), but that's just me.

Boredom. I've been playing this game since the beta. Why wouldn't I want to eventually play all the races the game has to offer? While I can beat pros/semi-pros, I'm not good enough to actually be one myself. For the most part, I play for shits and giggles. And I think it's badass to be Random rank 1 of your division with 100 points more than anyone else (yes that was me tooting my horn , but after all my losses today I've dropped over 100 pts ).

I have the opposite approach. When I played, I wanted to take the game to a long macro game against random players, because I felt that I knew the protoss macro better than they knew their random'd race's macro end game. I also figured that random players were more likely to cheese, because their only advantage is early game, before you scout. Which is another reason that I'd play safe and macro, diminished advantage for random.

Sucks that people are dicks though, sadly it's clearly a massive part of the ladder.

I got 6 pooled twice in a row and proxy 2 raxed the other day in the ladder consecutively. And I play random. I scout at 9-10 just about every game because I know this garbage is going to occur and usually these games turn into free wins.

It's because people are annoyed by not knowing the race of their opponent. Random players like to claim this is to make up for the fact that it's harder to play all races... well yeah, but random players put themselves at a disadvantage, it's their choice. I didn't chose to play against someone I don't know how to open against. It's BS and boring.

Random players should use the Day9 Die trick. The random player gets to play their play, the other player gets to play theirs, no BS unfair advantages going around.

One of the most intense macro games I had versus a random player who spawned Terran
I won that game in the end with Carriers at like ~42 minutes

EDIT:

I second this, though getting bm'd and cheesed is bullshit, and this surely doesn't justify it, but it is a pain to open versus random players--I have to 9 scout (which I only do versus zerg) so this sets off my build orders, even if its by a little--though the worse is going against a random who rolls Zerg, because then I can't FFE, so I have to do an icky gateway build

I play ladder to train my builds. When I face a random player, I'm not training anything, it's just a waste of my time so I usually just cheese.

Random players think they know how to play 3 races but in reality, they just know how to play Random. For example, as Zerg you probably have no clue how to play against FFE since no one does it against you.

Like someone else above posted, why don't you just roll a dice and choose your race before the game ? (don't tell me portraits please ...).

One of the players on my team plays R and made GM last season with it. Before I had played against him on a regular basis I had felt very threatened when facing R but after some practice against him I learned how to scout effectively and even if he was cheesing it would just turn into a Pv(his race) and not vs R. I dunno why people get so pissed when they see a R player.

Much respect for being able to play all 3 races at a high level. I don't know when that became something people looked down on and were afraid of.

I also have to say R players do not "put themselves at a disadvantage". If they can play the race and know the mu they can in fact play against every scenario. You can practice against specific builds
