So since I came in to some unexpected money recently (http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=320501) I took the liberty of treating myself to a few things I've been wanting for a while: a new mouse pad and a new headset. The previous ones I had just consisted of some $5-10 shitty product from Walmart, but alas I now have upgraded to much nicer equipment ^_^

Throughout the past 6 months I have gone from crappy no-name equipment to the following:

Razer Goliathus TL edition, Razer Deathadder, Rosewill RK-9000BR, Steelseries Siberia v2

The mouse pad just came in the mail today :D

Everything just feels so much nicer it makes me want to go pro!
+ Show Spoiler +
That's not the plan, don't worry lol

Happy happy times~

Damn this is nearly identical to my setup. Except I have an abysus and a normal razer goliathus, TL one was too big =[

Oh man I love it. This was my first time buying a mechanical keyboard, so I wasn't sure if I was going to come across any problems when it comes to preferring a certain switch type, but I looooooooove brown switches now. I love the actuation levels, clicky sounds, key layout, and colours of it. I don't have a single bad thing to say about it yet. I've had it for just under 2 months now probably.

I kind of wish I bought an abyssus instead as I didn't expect the deathadder to be so big, but it's grown on me now, so I'm not in a hurry to replace it anytime soon. I also wasn't expecting the pad to be so big. Now I don't even have room to put my dinner on my table beside it lol.

Just commenting a bit on it above in response to Sultan.P, but it's alright. I think I would have preferred a bit smaller mouse had I known it's size initially as I used to have more of a claw grip (more palm-claw hybrid now), but I've gotten used to it. I really do like the shape of it/curves though as it fits right in to my hand. Scroll wheel is nice and the cord is braided as well; never gets tangled or anything like that. Really really accurate now especially with the new mouse pad. It wasn't my style initially because of my mouse grip (my hands are relatively big still), but I have no complaints as far as quality and performance goes.

Hmm how do you like the mxred keys, have you owned any previous mechanical keyboards, if so, how do they compare?

EDIT: Oh wait, I just noticed you don't have the red version, my bad.

i have those exact same keyboards! They are awesome. They take no strength to press down all the way, and they are very comfortable for me. There's no tactile feel to them, though, so if you are looking for that feel, then that keyboard is not for you.

I also have the mousepad. Much better than the free one I had before.

This keyboard has cherry mx brown switches actually. More detailed in response to MisterD's post, but they're fantastic. I've never had a mechanical keyboard before, and I definitely won't go back now. Brown switches are everything I dreamed of, so I don't plan on switching to any other type in the foreseeable future either. If I could get thsi keyboard over and over again for the rest of my life I would be content.

Ya the keyboard really is a delight. But be careful man. A couple weeks ago the port behind the keyboard where you connect the USB cord got screwy on me and actually stopped responding. I think it was jammed inside the keyboard or something. Mind you the max I moved the keyboard was just around the desk; it's not like I was throwing it around. I read that this defect has happened to other ppl as well.

I was so sad because I also had browns too and was just in love with it. Anyways, I contacted rosewill and the customer support was very good, they opened a RMA ticket for me on newegg.com and I sent it back. Within a week I had a brand new rosewill again and everything is back to awesome =). The keyboard has a 3 year warranty btw, so if it ever happens you know what to do!

Oh god, I've made my share too, but CAT6 is worse; the certification testers are soooooo much more strict on everything being perfect when certifying cables you've made. I kept redoing one of my CAT6 cables in a lab because it wouldn't pass the certification meter for like 4 hours as part of our "final exam" for the lab (consisting of other things of course, was sort of a take home final). Finally my lab instructor walks in and goes "oh shit I gave you CAT 5e ends instead of CAT 6." -_-;;

Ick. When I was in the Army, me and some other guys got pressed into service to run a few miles total of CAT5 in the Division HQ tent during an exercise. It was even worse, because I was one of the lower guys on the totem pole, so I was physically running the cables while someone else made them. Got about halfway through before they booted anything, and suddenly we found out that the cables didn't work.

The clown decided it didn't matter what order the wires were in, as long as both sides were the same. After that, I ended up making the next batch, which was several dozen 50m+ cables. And then, due to carelessness and constant shuffling around of PCs, we kept having to make new ones daily, for a good couple of months.

Haha how good did it feel switching from a shitty rubberdome keyboard to a mechanical? For me it was night and day. Especially liked the part about making sure we know you are not planning on going pro, lol.

Indescribably good. My old rubberdome must have been 7-8+ years on top of that, so it was missing keys and keys were getting stuck and such. Oh man...

I like the naavi headset, isn't that thing like $120 though?
How do you like the rosewill? I'm thinking of downgrading my flashy Black widow ultimate to something simpler and smaller.
What switches does it use?

Navi headset was $89.99 at NCIX.com, $10.00 off.

My opinion of the Rosewill is spread throughout a couple posts on the first page. In summary, I love it. It's got Cheryy MX brown switches.

I'm only 14, and that being said I don't have very much money available to me. For my birthday, things I get are always gaming related (bigger monitors, better computer parts, a laptop from the whole family this past Christmas for example) and I was wondering if you would think it would be worth it to just ask for things like a keyboard, headset, mouse, and mousepad instead of things like speakers. Atm I'm using a shitty $15 walmart keyboard and a $5 on sale mouse, with a free mousepad I found at my dads work. Is the difference really that big? Because I'm used to getting things like more RAM or a better graphics card, would it be better to opt out of that kind of thing this year and go for things like keyboards and mice?

I noticed a difference immediately.
I wouldn't say it drastically improved my gameplay but the responsiveness is nice and it feels more comfortable.
It all comes down to if you like the feel of whatever you're buying.
Personally after using mechanical keyboards, I'd never go back to a regular one but that's just me.
You can still be good using basic gear , I can think of a couple pros who just use standard mice/headsets/keyboards etc.
