So, I was looking at getting rid of my desktop and my old laptop. I guess I'm going to need help with a few things here. What I use my computer for is mostly gaming, not really newer games, but Star Trek Online, StarCraft 2, League of Legends, etc. Currently I have a laptop and a desktop, my laptop can't really play games but my desktop was fairly good at its prime (years ago). So firstly I guess I'm looking for people who are more knowledgeable now with how much my old systems would be worth and what I should be looking for in a new system.
Laptop
Acer Aspire with 2gb ram (Unsure of the speed), AMD Turion Processor, 250 - 320GB HD and GeForce 7000M graphics, Windows Vista Home. I know it's kind of a peace of crap now, but its in really good condition, has another slot for ram, it did have 4gb but one stick was faulty. How much do you think this would go for on a kijiji / craigslist type deal?
Desktop
Intel Core 2 Duo, E6750 @ 2.66GHz, 2GB of OCZ 800/1333(?) ram, ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512mb, 500GB SATA HD, Windows XP. It has a 21'' Samsung Syncmaster 2000:1 906BW Widescreen monitor, NZXT Nemesis case. What do you think the asking price for this would be?
What I'm looking at is a laptop that can perform as well as my desktop, or better, but I am on a budget. I would really like to stay around $500, or $500 + whatever I can get from my two computers. I was looking at a few sites and I had found stuff such as this;
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230240
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230265

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=710_577_369&item_id=042471
My biggest problem I guess, since I've never really been good with laptops, is the video cards. I know onboard isn't usually as good as dedicated. Heck, I built my desktop from the ground up myself, I'm just lost with this stuff when it comes to laptops. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT ahh nevermind, I did a bit more reading and seen that your looking for a laptop. If you include your monitor with your desktop im sure with both the laptop and the desktop you could get $450-$500 ($200 for the laptop and $250-$300 for the desktop). Here would be a great Laptop for you after you sell the desktop and laptop:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834158058
Core i7 2670QM Radeon HD 6770m 750 GB HDD and 6 GB of Ram
sounds pretty legit to me

A laptop; it's less clutter and easy to take back and forth to work when theres down time. Is the monitor worth more? I would really have no need for it.

Would there be a step down from that? Convincing the wife to let me spend that much, especially after just buying a house, might be hard Maybe an i5 would help reduce the price? That's a badass laptop though..
Edit: I forgot to mention my desktop has a Logitech speaker system, not sure if that makes a difference or not..

What type of graphic settings are you looking to play the games on?
|
Ive been playing SC2 on low, smoothly, as long as I could do that I would be happy. I think thats the most graphic intensive game I've played.

How would that compare to my desktop? Just posted them for sale. Lets see if this works.

The cpu is a little worse but thats not a bad thing because the core 2 duo was a good cpu to begin with. The cpu in the laptop is a quad core also so multitasking should a be a little easier even if its not as fast as the C2D. The cpu is alot better though imo because if I remember correctly, the x1950 didnt even support direct x10.
Either way, the laptop should handle all of the games you mentioned at medium quality (at the least) with good framerates (prob around 40-50). If you play on low in all of the games mentioned, you should be well over 60fps

And one of the more expensive ones would be even better.. I just got an offer for $250 for my laptop. :D

The A8 3500M with the 6620g would only be capable of handling most games on low, unless of course you don't mind dipping below 30.

Yes, a GT540m would be superior. You can see the difference between the two along with various others in this article: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4444//11
I'm not familiar with the notebook pricing in Canada but Newegg might be terrible, just like they are for desktop components.
NCIX's weekly sale goes up tonight and lenevo often has recurring coupons for their notebooks as well.

Yes, that laptop would be great. I would get that over the other ones that I mentioned as that seems like the best value atm
