As i sit here and watch MC play Nerchio, I see him make muta defense look so easy. Is it just me or are mutas really easy to defend against? i have all kinds of trouble against them but MC just makes it look like mutas are silly. MC is just so good vs zerg. maybe it is just i dont have the APM to deal with mutas idk. maybe ill add some replays and see what others think.
another thing from IEM that is interesting is Elfi and his amazing pvp. i have never seen him play a pvp before this but heard about his pvp and seeing it, it just does not look standard but he just wins.
I really like Grubby so I am pulling for him to do well.

you basically gave the answser yourself: no mutas are not easy to defend against, it's just that MC is awesome enough to make it look easy^^. though i have to admit mutas are not as fearsome as they were a few weeks ago =)

Yeah. MC makes us all realise how sucky we are doesn't he?
Well what I noted from his play was this:
The very moment he saw mutas (when his void ray was killed by them), he threw down his twilight. He allowed his other void ray to do as much damage as possible to the 4th of Nerchio, knowing that it would still die if he tried to retreat, and also to buy time as the mutas had to fly there to kill the void ray.
At the same time, he cannoned up his mineral line and bases really hard, and warped in a templar archive + researched blink as soon as the twilight completed.
Well let's take a page from his book and try this in our next PvZ!

Elfi has amazing PvP, he's so unpredictable that it makes it hard for his opponents to understand his style and fight back! Hopefully his next set of opponents include more Protoss.

I just enjoyed Rotterdam saying "donky". Also, the viability of 1 base triple robo.

elfi taking out beating MC....really? he is awesome at pvp Jesus!

it's more that most protosses have realised that macroing and getting 3 bases up is better vs muta's than doing 2 base all in all the time.

If you look at it really close up, you can actually see a mini version of MC running around in his base and staring down any mutas that approach. They flee in terror.

The key is that he have code s apm.
Any decent player know how to battle mutas, the theory is pretty easy the problem is to react with the proper multi tasking that is needed, if you slip, you lose your eco, then you're dead.

It's not just MC, most korean protosses now of days are really good at defending vs muta play (don't know about na/eu since I play mainly kr but I know in experience in zvp they defend vs muta like perfect ).
It was only a matter of time and has been this way for a little bit now ^^.

They're just not that great against some of the other things Zerg can do.
Sure if you get lucky and the zergs being greedy. If he is playing safe he should have a lot of spines when he see's you are goign to do a 2 base all in (which he should see by scouting your base).

I think the thing that made it so easy for him is that he knew it was coming and had plenty of time to prepare. It's difficult to deal with if you're not ready for it, but if you're ready they shouldn't really be a problem. He already had plenty of cannons, plenty of gates, was making predominantly stalkers and was getting out storm tech. That's what made it so easy.
If he had been doing something like going fast colossi, or some sort of heavy robo tech the mutas probably would have just killed him dead. But he was prepared and so he made it look super easy.

he did not know it was coming till the last minute...... he only knew after the mutas were out and killing his voids. he just has amazing apm and i agree that the theory of defending mutas is simple and sound but actually executing it is a whole other beast.

Lol what's code s apm. The Merz should be Code S^2 apm.
MC just has plenty of good defense and doesn't get caught off guard as a lot of people do, because it's difficult to defend all at once and do the other things that you need to do.

maybe he means useful apm. difference between spam and actually using the actions which is what make pros so good. and there decision making ability.

What sets pros apart is their immense and incredibly deep game knowledge on a situational basis, efficient APM is just a product of this.
