My first musical demo

Hi TL,
I would like to share my first musical demo with you !

It's a slow folk song, quite bluesy.
I think it sound a bit"homemade" (I made it 100 % by myself... ), but I'd like some feedback on this :
please tell what you think need rework, if you like it, ect ...

So here it is :

Some details :
My main instrument is guitar.
I made it on good old cubase sx3.
Drums are midi (superior drummer).
It took me ~9 full work days spreaded on 2 month to make it

So this kind of music is not what i'm into but i'll try to give some advice anyways :

First i want to say that i enjoyed the song, i think it's a good one although not the kind of stuff i dig. I get really bored with those kind of stuff and yours is not an exeption, but i have to say that the raise around the 1.20 into the quiet part is VERY good. From this point you really have a nice groove that contrasts with the begining of the song (which i find boring but maybe that's a matter of taste), to bad it's already the end.

More into the details :

- Drop the first three booms on the begining or make them audible, it's just not clear what you are trying to achieve here. Try another sound (i think you're hitting your guitar ? hit it harder ? differently ?).
- The cymbal/snare on the second time at the begining of the track makes my ear bleed, it comes back around 1.30. It's just to loud/present in the mix, i'm in no way a sound engineer but i can clearly hear that there is to much high on these.
- You did a good work with the vocals and guitar
- Maybe the kick drum is not present enough, i feel it's covered by the others instruments. Also it might be me wanting to have it more audible because i'm more into EDM where it's a lot about the kick drum. I still think you could get some more groove going by improving it.

That's it, don't take my feedback to seriously i'm really amateur at making music but i know it's sometimes to have constructive feedback so i hope it helped

I had a listen, and you've clearly got an idea, which you like. However, it's underdeveloped. Don't be afraid to branch the song out, get some more ideas in the same vein and exploit the atmosphere of the song a little bit. It could be a pretty haunting four/five minutes, rather than just a couple of minutes of one good idea.

I used to struggle with this, but don't be afraid to test your creativity and grow the song! You came up with one good idea, you can come up with more for that piece.

My credentials- guitar player for 11 years, currently at a music academy writing music, playing gigs etc.

- I am trying to soften the agressivness of the "all-inish" begining with the first tree booms (wich are made with a synthetiser vst instrument), but you are right about them they sound very differently depending of your audio system, I should find something else.
- I am complete noob at how to make drum sound good, so your help is welcome,

Good work for a first song, vocals are very strong and everything seems recorded well. Only thing that really needs work is your midi programming and mixing of the drums as has been said before. Especially for my ear, the half closed high hat in the drum beat sticks out way to hard compared to everything else. The kick drum could use more volume as well. Overall pretty good though.
