Hi all, I've been playing Dota, HoN, LoL for over 7 years and I love commentating. I love commentating so much, that I prefer to commentate over playing LoL sometimes.

I recently was informed about this program called Camtasia and I was able to commentate a few games. I decided to commentate the Curse Invitational Finals and I would love for some feedback. I feel like I commentated game 3 the best for those of you who just want to watch only 1 game. I'm hoping to improve so I'd appreciate negative feedback just as much as positive feedback.

I've discovered after the first few games that commentating is actually extremely hard, but extremely fun so I'm asking all of you, whether you are in elo hell, playing ARAMs, or pros: give me some feedback

Link to game1 here: you can find the rest in my channel, including game 3 ^_^

Cool we need more solid LoL casters!

If you talked really fast you'd sound just like Klazart imo

Haha. Well i'm glad you say I'm at least solid. I'm hoping in the future to add more analysis and less play-by-play. Solo commentating is so hard right now. I'm going to work hard to get a lot better though.

Couple notes:

Don't say "I think this is important". Say "This is important."

Never blame the Observer.

Learn the name of every ability. This will take time, but eventually you want to move past saying "Lee's Q".

I think you've got a good balance of Analysis and Play-by-Play. What you really need is to work on your excitement level. Don't overdo it (like some current sc2 casters, but maintain a healthy level of excitement throughout the game in your voice.

All in all, not too bad!

ah, the things you point out seem very basic now that I think of it. The names of abilities part will definitely take some time since I am so used to talking with people in terms of QWER.

Am I not excited enough throughout the match? Or am I too excited during team fights? I keep things genuine since this is how I actually am in real life commentating so this will take some time to mold myself into the right casting voice.

I like the fact that you are pointing out things I can improve on and I encourage whoever wants to say something I can improve on, to let me know. Don't stay silent, PM me if you want.

Hint: try to get your volume higher in the recording, it's really low. This isn't a huge issue since you can turn the sound up, but in general having your volume up high makes things easier. It's nice not to blow out your eardrums when you move to something not quiet.

I'm going to say that so far the LoL casting I've heard does NOT have enough in depth analyses of certain laneing matchups an such. As a LoL noob things like that would make watching LoL a lot easier. I don't know all the champions, I don't know how they match against eachother, I don't know why one is better for something like jungling than another, etc.

I like your explanations at the beginning of the first match though, you do give a nice overview of the teams and such.

Try EXTREMELY hard to remove "uhh and umm" from your vocabulary. It's hard, but even simply stopping talking for a moment to gather your thoughts makes a huge difference.

Overall I'd say your doing pretty well for a beginner. Commentating certainly is very difficult, and I hope you get out there and make a name for yourself, you sound like a promising beginner!

If you're extremely serious about getting into this you might want to look into getting a better mic (even something like a Shure SM58 is far better than any cheap USB mic or headset.) It's certainly not necessary, but it does help sound quality a lot (of course, something like the 58 there will also require some way to get the XLR connection on the mic into your computer, but there are plenty of XLR to USB cables out there like http://www.shure.com/americas/products/accessories/microphone-accessories/problem-solvers/x2u-xlr-to-usb-signal-adapter) Of course, that's not the cheapest product out there for XLR to USB, but it gives you the picture.

Yeah, I like your ideas.

The uhh and uhmm vocab will definitely be trimmed down. I noticed that myself after listening to the commentary. It was actually quite glaring sadly.

Commentating for newer players is definitely one of the major goals I have in mind; get more people into the game. I will do my very best to explain lane matchups early game. I'll even pause the game before it starts and go over the lane/jungle matchups for maybe 10 minutes.

serious question , no troll. what made u choose to commentate LoL? As a dota player yourself, dont you think dota or hon has more of those clutch moments and epic fights?

I ended up playing LoL due to the fact that the majority of my close friends played LoL. In terms of commentating, I like watching LoL replays and streams and there are times I actually will watch them instead of playing. So because of that, if I am watching these streams and replays anyway, I might as well commentate and get more people into the game.

Yes, DotA and HoN definitely have some crazy, epic fights and tons of clutch moments. I was very happy how the DotA2 invitational turned out.

ah so it is the fanbase and your peers also playing lol. im in the same boat. I dont like lol as much as i like dota (even though i suck at it, lol is to blame) but friends make me play lol more. I just find it so hard as a viewer (i watch a ton of all game streams) to watch a LoL competitve game. It's always rice rice rice, ward ward wrad, teamfight

Edit:
About ur vid. I feel you would be a good commentator for people who are aware of LoL. The thing i liked the most is during a top lane gank by GP u only stated the actions occuring. U just yelled "Tornado, FLASH, PARLEY". I really like that. I already know what char does what and i hate it when commentators do NUNU SHOOTS HIS ICEBALL, JANNA FIRES A TORNADO .. Another scene that i liked where u just stated the hero and the one word to describe their skill. It blurs their sentences and overrides the excitement of the fight. Personal opinion but i really liked.

One flaw i thought was you kept your camera on top lane too long throughout the game when all they were doing was farming. Imo maybe keep the camera or at least select the hp of a jungler. This way if u are looking at a lane and u notice the jungler losing hp fast u can jump for some action (higer chance)

Unfortunately, I cannot control the camera. These videos were just youtube uploads that I commentated over.

I'm satisfied you liked parts of my video. But I have a long way to go in order to get better. Thanks a bunch for your feedback.

Game 3 is done and uploaded.

After some critique on the LoL general forum, I'm going to try to add some in-game discussion of team fight potential of each team. And apparently I come across fake which actually pisses me off since that is how I am in real life. But I guess I will just drop the excitement altogether.

So you guys watch for next week's uploads. There are most likely going to be some IEM matches ^_^. Should be some good, high-level stuff.
