Another day, another blog I guess.

I gauge that the most of you blog-readers are annoyed, irritated, and revolted by my blogs. Who wants to read blogs written by a 15 year old and his hubris anyway? The moderators are probably even more annoyed than the rest. I'm not doing anything wrong, breaking any other rules so that they can issue a ban ( a fair one anyway, unless TL decides to approve a new rule stating that 'Thou shalt not annoy with multitudes of blogs and threads.'

Never mind that, it's time to get with the blog.

Some of you may recall my previous blog on being, average or mediocre. Underachieving.

After thinking hard about this rather abstract topic, I realized that perhaps it's fine, after all, to be average. After all, not everyone can be Einstein, Mozart, or Aristotle can they? It seems that it is the average people that truly make up the 'meat' of society. The rich are just the gravy.

As long as we put in effort in what we do, don't let good opportunities in our lives slip past our fingers, and ultimately be happy, I'm pretty sure that at our deathbeds we can say that we have led a pretty successful life.

But why are we still not doing the things we do? Perhaps we need inspiration. I know that I seriously lack inspiration to be my best. I give up easily. But no longer, I say. I want to try and live to my fullest potential.

So TL, let's be crazy, let's do. We always want to get what we wish for, but we only get what we worked for.

Also, share things that inspire you! Does 'Electric Romeo' make you feel like doing great things?

How's life been since you decided to be normal? Any changes?
If you don't have any inspiration, why not just give up?

Give up? I gave up plenty of things before; playing 2 games of ladder daily (probably good), practicing math everyday, read something good everyday, maintaining a to-do list, etc.

It seems to be a bad habit of mine.

No, no. It's just I was talking to a friend a while ago and I told him I felt no motivation to go to school or do anything with my life. He asked me why I don't just accept my mentality and stay home all day and never accomplish anything. I didn't really have an answer.

It would depend on your conviction that you will continue feeling like that for the rest of your life. If you are convinced you will, then staying at home all day would probably be the best. On the other hand, if you might feel differently about life at some point, for example if you can conceive of having a family at some point or aspire to achieve something more, then you should probably act in a way now that would enable you to meet those goals later, even if you don't aim for them now.

That would be my answer to your friend's question.

There was a time in my life where I was 100% convinced that I'd be happy with a mediocre life and no responsibilities. My outlook changed after I met a girl that I wanted to have a future with, and fortunately I was still in a position to take advantage of that.

There is something profoundly shallow about the values that the society encourages. Be better this, be better that, be better everything. Achieve goals and more goals and better goals, and yet better goals and more, more and more.

To what end ?

You can be like Aristotele and spew deep philosophical insights with depth and authority that makes others gasp or a great business man who attracts money like a magnet, or an extraordinarily attractive ladies man. You can reach high, you can be decent, good, very good at something because you decided to put forth the effort, you can excell at a discipline of your choosing and preferably at everything, you can even reach the very top - and after a while, you can feel utterly empty, disheartened and disillusioned.

So what's the point ?

What's the point of living and putting in effort? Making an impact! Being immortalized in human history!

Well, that's very ambitious, that's admirable. However, in the end, what's the point of that ? To appease your self-esteem issues ?

To have some people who understand you even less than you yourself appreciate or admire you? To have your 'friends' shake your hand with respect ? To be famous ? To have your parents acknowledge you ? To have your fiancee find you being worthy ?

To what end ?

There were many people who are now embraced by historical records. And what of it ? Some of them might have enjoyed privilege and honors, some of them did extraordinary things but have they really found meaning and lasting joy in their life ?

I don't know - and I don't want to hide this from myself by creating some superficial, shallow facades that would cover this issue.

So the answer to this question could be: the point when the point remains unknown is to find out whether there is a point, and if so, what is the real point.

Carpe. Fucking. Diem. HELLLL YEAH

It's like going to the grocery store after a hard day of work, find Coke/Pepsi products on a major sale, then getting the maximum allowable quantity per customer. I grabbed 8 bottles (per customer limit was 8), that's approximately 16L of soda, and paid less than 10 dollars after tax. Needless to say, I felt like a boss that day.

Ima carpe the shit out of this diem for this..

i saved a couple of these photos, they are definitely inspiring, and book marked this thread

for people like me it can be hard to set goals.. smaller goals are always more achievable

2012 could be the last though, so this placebo motivation is pretty interesting to me. I'm definitely going to live it up .. if the world changed or ended i would have had a great year, if not.. well i still would have had a GREAT YEAR!

what's with the martyr thing at the top of the blog??

Interesting besides that though. Motivation and inspiration is a weird thing. I tend to get it when I talk to someone who has tons of it. Finding it from within is a bitch though.

This.

Humans, by nature, are social creatures. Which is why all of this "Carpe Diem!" "Pull yourself up by your boot-straps!" "Do what makes you happy!" stuff that gets spit at us by our culture is worth significantly less in the long run then investing in other people. Being the best at something is worth little if there is no one to enjoy it with. In the end, however, it all comes down to application of attention. If you can apply your attention properly you will improve. Period.

Oh, those 20 minutes could've been spent on planning your world domination. GJ on quitting ladder.

2 games isn't that much, just play the god damned game if you want to.

Inspiration like this doesn't last long because actually working on stuff is pretty tedious and doesn't go by in 10 minutes like a Rocky montage.

In a study on motivation, it was shown that those who envision success don't usually end up doing that well (people were asked to imagine getting a great grade on a test, knowing the answers, things like that). Those who imagined studying and doing the work, did much better. This is embodied by your quote picture "find what makes you happy, find who makes you happy." You're not envisioning the actual search with this, you're just envisioning the end result: being happy, having a great person beside you, etc. These are called idle thoughts.

This isn't to be mean or anything, this is just a solid truth about living life and having goals. As the cliche goes "it's the journey, not the destination."
