The racism that I face almost daily here within our Starcraft community is intolerable. I don't know why, but I've come to expect more acceptance and broad-mindedness from Starcraft players. Perhaps this is all my fault, because I put too much trust into a community on the internet. Still, I have a dream that one day, our community will rise up and conquer this abominable construction that is racism.
Does it matter if we all look a bit different or come from diverse places? Is one race superior to another? Can we do nothing about racism? Should we judge each other by which race we pick?
NO.
There should be no reason that I receive such prejudiced, intolerant BM just because I play random. Yet, time and time again I’ve faced bigoted people in the SC2 community both on ladder and even in our very own homes, on TL’s IRC.
Yeah I'm sure you had to go. Go to your room and cry![08:29] Aelloon: randoms are the scum of this world I feel sad for Idra sometimes, I really do. What the fuck. Everywhere I go, people blame the differences between the races, or "imbalances", for their losses, instead of admitting that it was their skill, not their race, that was the issue. I've even had people leave when I wouldn't tell them what race I randomed, right at the start of the game. Different matchups aren't just a coin flip based on build orders. The best players are able to win consistently not because they get lucky, but because they are able to analyze what their opponents are going to do, and counter that. Just because my race is random, it doesn't mean I have some huge insurmountable advantage because you have to scout a minute earlier. I have to learn 9 matchups opposed to your 3, and am I complaining? No.
So please, I'm begging you, don't hate. Make a difference, fight for change. Next time you see someone tearing apart someone else for the race they chose, next time a pro player you admire rages because they say a race is imba, speak up. Tell them that it's not okay to dislike someone just because you hate the matchup or the race. (Except when they rage about T v P, that shit is messed up.)
Okay, so maybe I do cheese a bit more than other players, but that has nothing to do with my race. I played terran for a while, and I still 4-raxed every other game. If you want to be angry about cheese, sure, go ahead, but don't blame my race.
|
People just inherently blame anything but themselves. Plus your race is OP.
|
I play random, usually FE, and people still call me out on "Terran imba". Humans will be humans, so I don´t really care.
|
To be perfectly honest, 90% of randoms are cheesy.
|
i dont think people hate randoms, they hate cheese and its easier to have a successful cheese early in the game if your opponent doesnt know what race you are playing from the start.

Always wall in as terran or protoss and always 10 pool as zerg.

I think people hate random players because of the fact that it is truly hard to be a good random player. You have to dedicate so much time and understand 9 matchups instead of just 3. Even now in current esports, there are no well versed random players.
Thus... Most randoms we meet online rely on really abusive strats or cheese to win when they get a race they do not properly understand how to play.
I've had countless random terrans 11/11, 2 portbanshee, bitbybit random protoss cannon rushing, lots of 4 gate, 7 gate random zerg almost exclusively 6pool or 7roach rush
Most of them are just terrible. I don't mind the free win...but I can't help but feel like my time is being wasted.

Dont for get baneling all ins, proxy tech, and basically every form of cheese out there. I have to agree with him, every time I see random, I basically have to play as safe as possible to make sure I dont lose to cheese which most of the time is on the way.

Every time something is so OP that it needs to be nerfed I look up my list of every race that has access to it and it always turns out Random has had it. Talk about an OP race! But, to make things worse Blizzard is always buffing them too. Makes my evil zerg heart sad.
Also, getting a late christmas present sc2 account to play random on, looking forward to it, though I'm not a fan of BM so hopefully I'll find nice people on ladder...yeah...I can hope.

Pffft. Back when I used to play random, I used to compain about it all the time.
And yes randoms cheese a lot, but everybody cheeses randoms a lot and once the circle of rage gets going everybody cheeses everybody.
As for racism as a whole, I don't see it as a big problem. I drink the tears of my enemies and laugh spitefully at their tantrums.

Came in expecting a deeply thought out post about real-life racism and the problems this causes for society. Got a first world problem blog instead.

playing protoss on 4 player maps against random gives them a pretty bullshit advantage. Otherwise in any other matchup advantage of random is negligible. Hell, i play a lot of random myself and even though i never cheese i Hate playing other randoms because generally they are cheesy scrubs that are lost past the 6 minute mark.

So this consistent ragging on one another for playing a certain race isn't an issue in the SC2 community? It's just a first world problem?

Uh, I don't think you realize exactly what a first-world problem is....
This is pretty much as close to a first-world problem as you can get.

I just laugh out loud when I see people blame other races like that, because I know they have a TREMENDOUS obstacle in the way of their improvement that I just don't have to worry about. Randoms in general can be tough, though, but still, even if they are the cheesy type, it's still going to be pretty hard for them.
|
I can smell the bm from around the block lololol.
|
tell them a wrong race... random player shouldnt try playing standard, at least if they try to make the most out of their race choice.
|
I play random, every time someone complain about balance at the end of the game, I challenge them to a mirror match, and proceed to rofl stomp them in the face, and then tell them to not worry about imbalanced when playing vs me because his failure has nothing to do with balancing issue, and i'm simply better.
|
I hate playing vs random, and I am of the opinion that most random players are awful at the game. Not even exaggerating when I say I get cheesed at least 8/10 games when I'm up vs random, and because of that I have to go for builds like a speedling expand, and scout on like 10, when in an ideal zvt for example, I'd like to 15 hatch when scouting on like 13-14, so just the fact that they're random can set me back A LOT.
