Ok so today the weirdest thing happened to me. A random african american lady knocked at my door and said that I was going to start getting mail every sunday until the end of the semester because their newspaper company wanted to help our university by giving newspaper to all college students that attend my university(My next door neighbor got denied becuz she don't attend university).
But then she said I needed to tip her. Well then I told her to just skip over my house and not send me any newspaper becuz I don't read the newspaper. Then she says that the newspaper is going to come to me no matter what(because what i mentioned in the first paragraph..the newspaper wants to help our school etc etc)but that I needed to tip her. So I keep telling her to skip over my house and not send me any newspaper that way I don't have to tip her. Then she says that the mail is going to come to my house no matter what and we keep going in a circle so I give her 10 bucks.
But then I feel like I got scammed and go back to her twice wandering around other apartments and get back 5 bucks. I mean either I'm missing something huge here or she just scammed me out of 5$. I mean do I HAVE to recieve newspaper and HAVE to tip the newspaper carrier?
Keep in mind I don't even know who this person is or if she's even a real newspaper carrier because I don't recieve newspaper back in my hometown. I don't even know if "Houston Chronicle" is a real newspaper agency and if her idendification card was even legitimate...
This is the second time something like this has happened and it's really starting to piss me off. But I'm not a rude person and i try SO FREAKIN HARD TO POLITELY REFUSE BUT THESE PPL ARE EVERYWHERE AND PERSISTENT ASKING FOR MONEY EVERY TIME AND WONT LEAVE ME THE F ALONE AND MAKING ME FEEL GUILTY IF I DONT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY. omg...like seriusly starting to piss me off..im a poor college student myself man. I did feel bad when I couldn't pay 50$ a month to help out one child in japan from the tsunami incident but my electric bill alone is 50-80$...I mean maybe after i graduate college...
Ok and I just wanna end with this..I wrote this while in anger but the main reason why I made this such a big deal is..I can dress up as a "newspaper boy" and go to all the apartments claiming im a newspaper boy and ask them for a tip up front. How in the world am I supposed to identitify they are really who they say they are and not fakes? And also another thing. How do I get these ppl off of me without being rude to them. I mean even to this lady I kept telling her over and over that I don't read the paper but she keeps on insisting constantly that the mail is going to come no matter what and that I need to tip her..wtf...?

:/ Sounds to me like you don't know when to put your foot down? I understand you're trying to be polite, but there is a difference between being polite and not being able to say no. The idea of them delivering a newspaper to your doorstep regardless of whether you want it or not seems a bit peculiar to me... But the idea that you HAVE to tip her for it if you didn't sign up for this service seems ridiculous. Sounds to me like:
1. You need to learn how to say no, and realise that it doesn't necessarily mean you're being rude.
2. You got scammed hard :/

I remember when some woman from Statistics Canada came to my apartment for some census. Even after she showed me all of her ID stuff to pretty much force me to answer her I still refused to tell her my name, education, how much I made, etc. She looked so pissed, she left very quickly.
Fuck random people that come bother you, you don't need to be nice to them if they're just there to bug you.

And she wanted a 1$ tip for delivering newspaper every sunday or I can give her 10$ up front. And I gave her my name and signed some form and gave her my number and she obviously knows my address and apartment number. If she don't have my credit card number or social security number I should be fine right?

Hypothetical ending of conversation. You're not being rude, you're simply ending a conversation which you have nothing more to say in. And giving her your number... mistake. May/may not be able to charge you for anything, but you've certainly opened yourself to the possibility of future spam.

She also gave me a card where I get discounts from a bunch of differnt restaurants called "Subscribers Advantage Read Rewards Card" and I called the houston chronicle to make sure it wasn't a scam and they confirmed that they did indeed have ppl out there to "bother" college students at the beginning of every semester about this -_-

Houston Chronicle isn't a fake newspaper lo. But yeah, you should be able to just shut the door if you feel intruded upon..
btw the newspaper's only 2 bucks lol...

A homeless man came to my door (at the end of a hallway on the 14th floor of an apartment mind you). I probably should have looked through the peep-hole first but opened without thinking. He handed me a card that read "I am deaf. I am handing out these cards hoping for change" or something along those lines because he cannot speak, of course.
I knew I had a loonie (1 dollar coin) on my desk so I handed it to him. He then proceeded to say "Nice apartment" perfectly clear and walked off.

Deaf people can speak... It's possible it was an accident which impaired his hearing sometime in his life after he learnt speech.

To me, handing me a card with a message on it was to imply he could not speak. He also pointed at his mouth to motion he could not when I first opened the door.
