Shawn Timothy Nelson (August 21, 1959[1] – May 18, 1995) was a U.S. Army veteran and unemployed plumber who stole an M60 Patton tank from a United States National Guard Armory in San Diego, California and went on a rampage on May 18, 1995, destroying cars, fire hydrants, and an RV before being shot by police.
Blew my mind, especially since I was playing Tank Mayhem in SR3 just an hour ago. Then I realized the horrible things violent video games have done to me, as I didn't even flinch during the video and felt dirty dirty satisfaction when he ran over other cars O_O
Just imagine if the tank was loaded with ammunition... anyway, thought I'd share this discovery with TL, cheers.
Haha, I remember watching this on live local news when I was a kid. The police were lucky it wasn't an Abrams, because it wouldn't have gotten stuck on the center divide like it did.

Tanks generally require a crew of multiple people to be combat-effective. Because it was only one guy driving it, loading, aiming, and firing the main gun would have been out of the question. However, police were not sure if it was only one guy in the tank or not, and thus had to give the vehicle some space.
They were also seriously considering the legal implications of asking the military to launch an airstrike on that thing.

One guy is fully capable of operating the main gun AND driving actually. modern tanks are awesome ^^

i havent played much FPS since COD:MW1; when playing death from above (ac130 mission), it just struck me how utterly senseless and thusly perverse the whole thing was, just throwing bullets and explosive into unsuspecting people over and over again.

An M60 Patton tank is not 'modern.' Real life is vastly differrnt from Call of Duty and Battlefield franchise games.
