A lot of the time I don't get much sleep. The reasons vary, but the result is usually the same. One night during the week I'm up until mignight, 1 am, or even 2 am, and the next morning I'm getting up at 7 for work of school.
Last night was one such night. After laddering a bit, my 2v2 partner logged in and there was little I could do but say "let's go bro" and we went and stomped noobs. By the time we were done it was 1 am. I stopped by TL.net forums, made some strategy forum posts, posted some stuff in Mafia, and basically chilled for another half hour.
When all was said and done I fell asleep at 2 am.
Today, I'm driving on the freeway when I suddenly realize I'm falling asleep. This is the sort of realization that is normally unbelievably alarming, but trying to experience my own alarmed feelings was like reaching through thick syrup to grab something. I realized that I had missed my exit, and I needed to get over to the shoulder because I couldn't operate my car in a safe fashion. It also occurred to me that I need to slow down, because my reaction time to changes in speed from the car in front of me will be slower-- I need more room to react.
But my feet are too slow, and I can't turn my head to see my side view mirror to change lanes. I realize I'm so sleepy I can barely move. I'm fucking terrified. This is the worst thing ever. This would also be a shitty way to have an accident. Why can't I move my feet easily? The guy in front of me slows down. I can't hit the brakes. I change a lane over. Oh no this guy is braking too can i brake in time Oh no oh no oh no
Then I wake up. I'm napping in my car between classes.
;_;

That is odd, at least you are okay. Just need to hammer down some cafeeine when that happens. I usually operate on 4.5 - 5 hours of sleep during the work week lol. I have to fix it of course, but I know the feeling some mornings.

I feel guilty for this somehow.

lolol Dude I have some dreams like this! Very scary : )

Where you in the same car in your dream? At least give yourself a ballin car while you almost die from exhaustion :D Dreams can be funky and have such a sense of realism sometimes. Then you wake up. =o fun read ^__^

That's very near what being that sleepy is actually like. It's kind of like fighting the tide. You will have limited success, but the sleepiness is only going to come back stronger. Might want to sleep more often at an appropriate time.

You were in a car dreaming about being in a car.
Inception?

I was in the car I was sleeping in. I distinctly remember thinking about my side-view mirror setup and being glad I use a slightly wider angle than standard.

I did this once when I was about to get heatstroke, I was feeling sluggish and the more I tried to sit up in the car the darker my vision became, when I sat all the way up I snapped awake and was like "i need to get out of the car right now, its baking me". Where I live people slow roast food in their trunks during summer....
also to the OP, you might feel better knowing the highways and freeways all have enforced curves every 1 or 1 1/4th mile, to prevent people from falling asleep under the hypnotic effect of driving straight continually. So next time you're in a dream, check if the road curves, as you know its designed to help you stay awake in the real world

Watch out bro, my father crashed his car in the freeway last month because he was too tired to drive. Whenever I have to drive too early after staying awake till late night, I have a hug cup of coffee and drive listening to some Pink Floyd. :D

This would happen to me in 11th grade, but luckily not while actually moving down the freeway, and instead when I would be in stop and go traffic for the last 15 minutes of my commute. I would doze off for a second, wake up when my head went down, and then try to keep my attention up until we started moving again. It only happened a handful of times, but it's not something I'm proud of, and could've cost me a lot.

I have those dreams every once in awhile where I am driving and there's a red light but for some reason I can't stop and just run through it and nothing works lol. Those dreams are so fucking weird and I always wake up going "why the fuck did I dream about my car failing to work in anything?".

I've actually had that experience without being asleep. There is nothing worse than driving when you feel sleepy. It is so dangerous but sometimes you just have to do it. I used to work part-time at a petrol station where my day started at 4am. So many times I would get to work and have no idea how I got there
Sleep, it is kind of important...

I know that petrified feeling in dreams you're talking about. Usually I get it when I'm fleeing something though.

If that happens turn on some really loud rap music.
