EPTI had about 170 bonus points, so I guess I could have earned a better season milestone, not like I care that much but still. I'm uneasy because of how unexpectedly seasons are locked or reopened (talking about the Europe server now). I was also pretty confident I could build up my MMR a bit to start facing platinum players more consistently, then maybe place platinum as of 27 December or so.
But I'm not going to waste words or thoughts on the above any more. There's a new season to go and I want to get to plat before the end of the year. There are 9 days to go.
For my placement match, I got a TvZ. No favoured or even match rating, no nothing. The game was on the new Season 5 map, the Arid Plateau, a little bit similar to Blistering Sands and possibly having some advanced graphical features since I had the impression it was demanding more resources from my computer than the typical game.
I got the SE position, he was NW. The game took 11 minutes. I opened a lazy naked three factories with two gas, denying my opponent any read other than no very early expo, so I could be making anything other than maybe a particularly sensitive timing push. As I suspected could be the case, there were some roaches, although not too many, which I found with my first push. I decided to play it safe and make more hellions, while only gradually and slowly adding thors (mass hellions are probably better vs roaches than a vastly inferior number of thors anyway... after all, they do splash damage and if there's a ton of them, it'll still hurt). I pushed with two thors and maybe a dozen hellions, with a couple of scvs to repair (the formation was that thors a-moved closed to opponent nat and hellions and scvs were ordered to follow the thors in order to avoid hellions arriving too early). I took my nat behind this push but it wasn't needed, the opponent left.
The opponent was low to mid plat, probably low, and I got placed gold. If the past is any indication, I should be plat soon, since I took two seasons to get out of silver and now this is the third season I'm in gold.

I guess faster seasons helps trim out the players that don't actually play anymore so that the leagues that you see are always generally active players.
I have actually yet to win a game after the victorious placement match. How the tides turn.
