Future (and futuristic) projects
Future (and futuristic) projects
I don't really know how much of this I should be telling you so soon - it's still just in early planning. I'm basically trying to gather enough people to even get the project started, but the school representatives I've talked to seem optimistic towards trying to fund this if it just gets a bit more defined and we can get what we're trying to do in writing.
I'm talking about virtual reality.
It's been a long time dream of mine to create it for real, but money has always been what stands in the way of getting started. Now I'm at a place where I can both get funded through school, and can get the help of some amazing programmers when creating the "interface" for it. It's not something that will probably work very well right from the get-go (as with all research projects), but it's a start. A start of a long time dream coming true.
But enough srs bznz, more info on that as it progresses, I just got really excited to write a few lines about it as I saw the "Future Gaming" topic pop up in the forums (though that thread seems to be taking a whole other turn, but enough about that). What's happening in the quest to become a pro gamemaker?
Not much.
For the last month we've all been busy trying to learn object oriented systems design and programming, both of which has a couple of small projects along the way imbedded in them, and adding to that me and a lot of other people I'm working with are still busy with club activities, so not very much time is spent towards our side projects. The week-long LAN party we're having the first week of the new year will probably change that though. An entire week with nerds that study game development sitting packed in a closed room in an otherwise empty school should produce at least something, right? xD

Ending this blog with sharing something I found that I think is AWESOME:
You've may or may not have stumbled upon Vocaloid when surfing the web. For those of you that haven't, it's a series of musical software with basically synthetic voices that musicians can program to sing whatever they tell the program to sing. The company making this also created characters to each "voice", and those characters are immensely popular in Japan, with one character in particular: Miku Hatsune.
Now, just the idea of having a digital character with a synthetic voice getting so popular is kind of awesome, but when I discovered this LIVE performance with some of the Vocaloids:
Come on. It's just looks so damn real! o_o I'm hugely impressed with what the producers, animators and choreographers must have done to make this happen. It's putting a smile on my face when thinking about how accepted technology is today, and how far we probably will come in just a few years.
Just try to see the vid asap - someone uploaded the entire concert before, but that was unfortunately removed after a few days (I did manage to get a hold of it for myself anyway, hehe. ...I miss the old youtube~), and this vid will probably follow the same fate, so watch it as soon as you can.
Thank you for reading, and since it's almost that time of the year: happy holidays, and happy new year!!!
