I'am sure that we all listen to music. Listening to music is what some of us may do for relaxation, getting into that "mood" when you are laddering, or because we simply love music.
I would like to consider myself a huge fan of music. I can listen to almost everything the world of music has to offer except for the modern pop 'artisits' like Taio Cruz, Usher, Ke$ha and the likes. I don't mean to offend anybody though, everybody has their own preferences right? I would say that I'am a classical music enthusiast. Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Mahler, Schubert, Prokofiev, Bizet, Grieg, Chopin, Vivaldi, Strauss, Wagner, Bach, and many others. I love them all.
My favourite piece of all would be the waltz of Swan Lake. My favourite version is the one in the Ultimate Tchaikovsky CD Boxset. The one in the video feels somewhat quicker in pace, but that's ok. I feel that it gives a subtle twist to the piece but still is able to radiate gracefulness and elegance.
Warning : Bad audio quality!

But that's enough about that.
I'am quite curious about how do other people listen to their music. I'am not an expert on the whole audiophile business where there's this little box thing that is connected to the headset or something like that, but I would like to consider myself an audiophile though (as the dictionary definition of one - a person who is especially interested in high-fidelity sound reproduction.).
I listen to music on my computer, with the excellent, Grade-A music player that is foobar2000. I either play it through my speakers, or using my headphones (Sony MDR-XB500) or my earphones (Etymotics HF5). Most of my music files are in the .flac format. I have a 92GB FLAC library and a 15GB FLAC library of Vinyl rips.
Also, I'am a Whatter. what.cd , anybody? Don't know what I'am talking about? That's ok if you don't, I think the internet has an amazing website where you can search for stuff. (Not being condescending.)
Well then TeamLiquid community? How do you listen to your music and what do you listen to?
I listen to Ke$ha with my Beats by Dr.Dre. Best headphones ever.
More seriously, I'm mostly into electronic music (Juno Reactor, Amon Tobin, Massive Attack, Goldie, ...) and own a pair of Grado RS-60, and although I am aware they are not the best headphones, it's a really good value (60$).
Mine? Video game music, inspirtational and music with poetic traits into them.
Namely; playlist of Chrono Trigger, Hans Zimmers inspirational music and their piano instrumentals(See: Inception) Rise Against and SOAD, the only mental band I enjoy.
How I listen to them; ipod classic, phone and itunes :D
The little box is called headphone amplifier. Most high-end headphones have such high impedance that the standard audio-cards/players can't provide a signal strong enough for you to hear anything through them.
I cringe everytime I hear people refer to themselves as Whatters -_- I listen to mostly kpop and indie artists so I don't use what that much. I use itunes (shitty I know), edifiers, and an ipod nano for a 50gb library.

edit : give some credit to Ke$ha. Without her, we wouldn't have had DTs on top, the best Starcraft song ever.
That's pretty cool! I don't have much knowledge on the electronica genre though. Is it just dubstep or funky beats or am I missing out on something?

Video game soundtracks are pretty cool too! I listen to the Halo soundtrack, I think Martin O'Donnell is a genius. Hans Zimmer I would expect to be good as well. The only works I have of his is the Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack though, I'm not sure where is a good place to start. I assume that the Inception soundtrack is good?

Sweet! What does a Headphone Amp do though? Would you care to explain? Thanks!

So the Amp is just to allow the headphones to live up to their potential?

Why do you cringe? =O iTunes isn't THAT bad if your files are mostly .mp3, besides, you use an iPod Nano anyway. One problem I had with iTunes is their own "Sound Enhancer" thing where it dramatically increases the Treble and Bass to the point where the music becomes screechy AND muddy.

Yeah! Music is awesome!

I wonder if anyone (maybe OP) could recommend something similar? Preferably with the solo piano concept and a darker mood (not Yiruma).
Hmm, I'm not sure if you heard The Music of Candy Man (Album) by Philip Glass

I have never been too tight on quality. I use earbuds and shitty speakers. I don't know why this is. My music is in different formats, mostly because I don't discern a difference, because of availability, or whatever I'm thinking about the subject when I get do dling. I also have shitty hearing and a mild varying ringing in one of my ears. With earbuds in, it seems pretty much normal, but I'm not capable of having perfect hardware anyway.
I'm on what as well, but I don't really look at the forums. Am I missing out a lot?
Last year I made an attempt at a top 100 albums from the year. I had a great experience and I'm doing it again now. I listen to music from 2011 at least 90% of the time at this point. The whole ranking project keeps me finding new things and listening to albums I would never find or care to find without it.
Oh yeah, and electronic music is enormously broad. Let me think about some favorites. I'll try to remember to hit you up.
Also, isn't the label whatter (I haven't heard the term), basically the same as TLer? I call myself that.

Ringing it your ear? Have you gotten that checked yet?!
The forums over there are pretty decent since after all it is a private community, but TL is much better anyway.
Do you find it depressing when listening to the new music? People like Justin Bieber and all the unskilled 'Artists' don't get you down?
I mainly listen to hip hop and the stuff that would end up on p4k, I try to get everything in v0 and I use my good ol' Sennheiser HD202 headphones + foobar2k
I did actually download the whole Philip Glass discography a while ago but didn't yet have the time to go through it. Thanks for the tip. The links are pretty awesome. I never knew there were such freaky classical pieces. If you got any more I'd be thankful if you could pm me or just share a few tips here :-) Thanks!

A fan of music, but not knowledgeable. I think I also mentioned that I'am more suited towards Classical music as well. I think it is unreasonable to assume that I would know everything about all genres of music.

What's p4k?
V0 eh? Have you tried V2? Is there a distinguishable difference?

I could get surgery, but it might not do anything and I'm not in the position to consider it anyway, both in terms of finances and time. Maybe someday. It happened because I got hit by a car last year.
I don't even try to listen to everything that comes out. There are plenty of new albums in genres I like or like experimenting with. I listen to mostly electronic, production, ambient, experimental, type stuff, but I really enjoy hip hop, post-punk, jazz, and folk. I listen to a bit of pop, prog, world music, classical, and metal when I get adventurous. That's pretty much the gamut, ain't it. I'm trying to listen to more Japanese music this year to give my top 100 a bit of an angle. It'll differentiate it from my friends' top 100s and it'll give them a different avenue to look into. Anyway, I haven't listened to Bieber as far as I know.
EDIT: I dig math rock too. I just raided your recent snatches if you have the same id on what...
