So this will be a long blog about me QQing about MW3 on the xbox 360. I’ve played the series since COD MW; and I do play a lot. Black Ops was the first time I didn’t max out on my prestige due to the fact that I felt it was the worst game in the entire series by far. I am a hardcore search and destroy players so all of my bitching and complaining will be from that game modes perspective.
The first thing I am going to start on is the fact that Activision refuses to deploy dedicated servers to the console games. I assure the only reason they have them on the PC is to try and catch people with cracked versions of the PC games. The game has been out for 3 weeks now, and of the 4 “updates” they have released (on the xbox) all have had something to do with lag compensation/connection fixes. Judging on the openings of the last 2 call of duty titles the series just on opening week alone has generated 1.3 billion dollars as a low conservative figure. Now any smart company would want to “protect” the image of a cash cow like that you would think no? Instead of slicing of let’s say 50million to create dedicated servers for this and future titles releases and hire a team to manage said servers for easily the next 10 years. Nope, not Activision and that prick of a CEO.
The second issue, glitches and exploits. Not 3 days after release people were already under the map on Outpost…Then you had the stealth bomber glitch…I have to ask what the fuck kind of QA team do these studios(Sledgehammer/IW) have. If a company does not want to do a beta, or claims that they have a well equip staff to do this then its fine by me. But don’t allow this shit to happen and not even respond to inquiries on are they going to fix it.
The 3rd issue and its really the one that drives me up a wall is the ability for these punk ass kids to team kill over and over and over again in HC and not get kicked. I mean come on now. This isn’t some brand new way for kids to grief. This started to become really prevalent towards the end of MW, and the beginning of WaW. Treyarch implement a 3 strike and your out rule which I feel is fare. I am not a fan of ricochet and I think it makes players play more wisely instead of just running out in the open, or dart in front of a teammate. They have a report player option however there are no repercussions for players that do this. The HC SnD players are probably the smallest faction of the playlist. You see a lot of the same people daily. And it’s the same teamkillers not being banned and it’s a joke. Its pretty bad that if I am playing without a full group and I spawn behind a random kid and see a rocket on his back my first thought is to get the fuck away from him/her. It really is a simple fix that they for god knows whatever reason refuse to patch and it makes no sense at all.
It’s a shame the owners of Sledgehammer contends they “worked their butts of the last 2 years on this game” but they really didn’t. I don’t think they could list 10 new innovations that their “hard work” has brought to MW3. Here is honestly what they have brought that is new : 1) New maps(wow….) 2) Some new guns(earth shattering guys!) 3) The ability to hear what the other person says when they die(This honestly is a good thing it is very humorous to hear people cry; seriously thumbs up for this) 4) Kill confirmed(don’t play anything but search so non-issue for me) 5) Support & Specialist kill streaks(not bad imo, don’t like how the support/assault overlap with some rewards. It should have been exclusive)
I mean honestly that is it from what I have seen. Am I missing anything? As much as I have a disdain for Treyarch, they had an awesome feature where if you are aiming the bombs signs actually faded away so you could have a clear los. I guess with all of the hard work over the last 2 years sledgehammer wasn’t about to keep a useful feature in the game….
Another group of people I am really disappointed in are the “professional” game critic publications. A dirty little secret that no one talks about and yet everyone knows are the “perks” of gifts travel for a positive review. Activision/IW/SH flies out the reviewers, hooks them up with goodie bags, wines and dines them and in return they write what an excellent game soandso is. The reviewers who do this need their integrity called into consideration.
I hope they will get it together. Alright so I’m done bitching now

Hey if you are not happy with the multiplayer there's always the 5 hour long campaign with buildings copy & pasted from earlier games (yes, a whole building from cod4 modern warfare multiplayer)!
|
I'm sorry for the short post, but come on dude.
For the first few days when you launched MW3 on the PC and you changed your graphics settings, it would say "Modern Warfare 2 needs to start in safe mode"
That's just a little quirp of information for laughing's sake, but honestly. Did you expect anything less? This is Call of Duty we are talking about. They release the same game with a new skin (and sometimes they don't even give it that respect) for, what, the past 5 years or so? Even CoD4 was terrible, and people just liked it because it was NEW and, at the time, original. I think it's just time to move on from CoD unless they come out with something genuinely innovative, and not the same game over and over and over again.

@Neon haha yea I will admit the MW campaigns while short are usually well written. I will at some point play it through.
@fruscainte In my mind I gave IW a pass with MW2 in light of all the drama with the founders getting fired and the lawsuit etc. I can only assume that was a very shady time to be working there with a lot of background things going on with management. Perhaps I am naive to have thought that shit would have gotten sorted out . I had a blast on CoD4 minus the teamkilling shit. I thought they made some great innovations on the engine as well as the into on the perk system. I honestly think that was one of the more balanced games. Obviously the 3 frags were abused somewhat etc. As for the maps, from a SnD player they are absolutely the most balanced in the series. This one its like the designers just threw a dart on a printout and put a bomb site. When the offense has the ability to get to a bomb before the defense does thats just silly. Or create a spawn system where you immediately tapped the O in a building ala Dome. Horrendous =/

I really like Black Ops. I don't get the hate for it. Anyways MW3 was pretty good in my opinion.
1) I have made it to 1st prestige in a little over a day of play time and have had a lot of fun doing so. My only complaint is that the maps are either hit or miss. I love about half of them and hate the other half. They are way too small - I think there's only like 3 or 4 big maps. This can be easily fixed with DLC.
2) They arn't going to add new guns and I don't want them to. If they start to do this, then people that pay money will now have an advantage over those who don't. In order to for them to make it fair they will have to make it a free download, but then they don't make money and its Activision so I don't see that happening.
3) Fuck that. I turned it off in Halo and if they add it in MW3 I will turn it off again. Its just fucking annoying.
4) I love kill confirmed, its just team deathmatch with an objective thrown in.
5) Support is so fucking dumb. Like seriously you keep your killstreaks all game? WTF? YOUR NOT FUCKING STREAKING ANYTHING WHAT THE HELL??????....specialist if fine though.

Havent played either BO or MW3 but I just wanted to say that the reason we have dedicated servers on PC is because thats been the way FPS games have worked on PC since the dawn of FPS games. See MW2 for what happens when theyre not included, altough highly popular at release it is now virtually dead, compared to the older MW1 which still has plenty of players. Although to be fair, given the $$$ MW2 made them while it was big, its probably isnt really an issue theyre concerned about.

I don't understand the hate for black ops either. Anyways to add something to this list I really hate that blast shield seems to be useless. I used to be able to put on flak jacket if I was getting tubed or rocketed alot, but there seems to be nothing to counter it in this game unless you want to sit in one place with your trophy system. It gets pretty damn ridiculous in games like hardcore domination where it's just rocket spam in some games.
Another big thing is the leaderboards. They don't mean jack shit anymore. It might as well be a list of how much playtime you have for that category. What happened to things like score per minute to determine it.
Biggest problem is easily the no dedicated servers though. I mean seriously come on guys it totally destroys any Esports potential and ruins many a game.

My view is only as a hc snd player. When you allow people Flak jacket(that eats 2claymores) and Last Stand(that last 30seconds and anyone on the team can revive you) in hard core your game is not balanced. Or the fact that you place a bomb site where a rocket shoot off and burns your ass every round lol...
WaW leaderboards were the best; wins.

I just don't understand why this is the leading first person shooter franchise. The biggest problem in my opinion is that its 60$. I see NO reason why this should be considered a separate game from MW2 and not be charged as an expansion.
Also the game is just not as interesting as games like quake or unreal tournament. I understand that MW3 is nice for casual gamers, but theres so many people who take this game serious and I just don't understand why such a non interesting game is so widely played.
|
Anything produced by EA or Activision (not Blizzard's half) is complete shit anyways. Just reproduction games spit out as fast as fucking possible without regard given to quality. AT ALL.
<3 Blizzard <3 Bethesda
They take their sweet time developing AMAZING games. I'd gladly pay 10x more for a game by Blizzard or Bethesda than I would for a game produced by EA/Activision.

It kind of got caught up in it's own hype loop. COD4 was pretty good and sold a ton of copies. Because people bought so many copies the next installment had a ton of hype and people bought it. And so on until here we are.
|
@tbone I put that on the mainstream gaming publications such as IGN whose reviewer boast "The multiplayer is hands-down the best it has ever been". <----WTF?
@chargelot agreed, blizzard has always been strong in their support of games the merger with Activision still has me shaking my head
@Charger it sucks that there is no true competition. BF3 is meh. I am hoping that Respawn(the company that the IW founders created) will develop a new FPS.
|
I think activision has gotten a bit sloppy with this one, but people will buy it regardless and it is just a way for the community to connect with each other, so its no wonder it is doing so well

I played HC snd alot and likely will play it alot more as I get higher prestige in MW3 and I didn't really see an issue with flak jacket in it. If people want to give up a perk slot to eat claymores then that is fine by me. I guess another thing is why even bother having a perk in the game that doesn't do anything? I am glad they got rid of last stand though, I wish they had done final stand as well.
I don't agree with wins being a good leaderboards indicator at all. It still rewards more playtime too much unless it's w/l ratio, but then that still has the problem that people in good parties are basically going to dominate the boards whereas playing by yourself is always going to lower your rating. I think things like score per minute or maybe k/d in some cases are a much better indicator of how good you are in that playlist.
On second thought W/L ratio for leaderboards could work if they had a seperate list for solo and team ques.

@raging I wouldnt even fool with it right now until they patch the TKing unless you run with a squad. The whole point of HC in my opinion is its more realistic that if you get shot 3 times your dead whereas core if you get shot 3 times your gonna laugh and run away. If the kids were doing that in core with FJ running through explosives left and right i wouldnt care. But they basicially made Hardcore into Hardcore lite with Black Ops. Example : there was a rocket you got from a care package only, grim reaper I think? Had like 4 or 5 rockets. I unloaded on a kid I had trapped in a corner of a room with all of the rockets and after a reload with 2 more(so 6 or 7 hits) before he died. He almost wall banged me while I reloaded. It was ridiculous how much reduction it had.
SPM is tough on search because if you play foolish and run out blindly in more cases than your going to get slapped. And the whole k/d thing doesnt work in search because of the fact people wont plant the bomb or attempt to defuse if they are at a disadvantage say a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1...That virtual life is serious business

A lot of people who play MW games only play MW games, and they treat it as some kind of sport. It helps that all their buddies will also get the game. Casual gamers or not, I can understand why it is widely played. Also, not sure if you are coming from a purely PC point of view, but MW is optimized for console play. It really does make a difference. If I only had PC, I would never touch MW.
The only MW game I played was MW2, and while I enjoyed it for what it was, I will not pay for another MW title. It gets old fast. But I can see that it's like the Madden of FPS. I bet 80% of the people who bought MW3 realize that it's the same rehashed crap, or at the very least it's lingering in their subconscious after self-preserving mental suppression, but since all their buddies are getting it, they have to as well.
The metacritic user scores give me hope that this franchise will die soon, though. Game developers can only get away with so much for so long.
|
It's not really a surprise... When I saw the trailers I knew it would suck and not worth 60$, so I decided to not give them my money. I think the problem with the COD hype loop is that most of the people who buy it are just casual/mainstream gamers who buy it because they think it will make them cool. In fact, some of them doesn't even realise it's shitty and they should explore other games, they just buy it because that's what cool kids do.
At least EA games tried with BF3 pushing their graphic engine but the problem with this genre is that you cannot really inovate because war is war especially because these FPS are realistic so there is no place for creativity that made good FPS like quake or CS(The aiming system in this game is good for esports).
I really hoped that Activision would get punished for their greed, but instead they got rewarded with the more game sold in 1 day(or a week?) ever, I guess the next 10 COD will stay shitty then.

It feels as if Activision is conducting a social experiment of how many samey iterations it would take for people to be sick of this shit. Objectively, the modern CoDs aren't bad games, but if you compare them to their contemporaries...
I don't fucking know how IGN can give this copy-and-paste job a 9. Again.
But for all of the internet's ranting, the most important thing is for people to NOT BUY IT. Since it's too late to boycott MW3, let's not be fooled by whatever is next, m'kay?
Haha a 2.1 user score on Metacritic. That's more like it.

I just wonder how much $$$$ that writer got. I dont understand how you can allow someone to buy your opinion. There is no way whatsoever an objective person could have wrote that review. I've come to the conclusion that I would never be allowed/could stand to work for these type of companies, IGN, Activision etc. Im sure the money is nice, but at the end of the day if I can't speak my mind when someone screwed up or made a shit product whats the point of being a reviewer or a cm?
I ate a ton of shit back in the day when I was a mod for warcraft 2 on gamestorm from the Kesmai people for being upfront with the customers who were paying a monthly fee.
I wish the MC score would be more of an indicator of how pleased the people are more so than the sales, but that wont happen
