So I just played an intense game of Scrabble with my brother and it was tied 230-230 at the end.
Previous to this, we played another game where I started off going 2 -> 31 -> 37 -> 34 and he just GG'd right away, so I was already ahead 1-0. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't partially because I got a lot of good letters and spots, but it still was pretty kickass.
Anyway, I had a Q left at the end (kept hoping to get the last U in the bag for god knows how long and didn't get it T_T; no other U's on the board to possibly use either) and he had an E. Usually there's a spot or two to add on random E's and I's and A's and such at the end, but they were all taken or would mess up another word, etc.
In the top corner, however, there was FISH horizontally with a gap then a blank letter that was being used as an S. My roommate came up to help my brother and after a while said "hmm... what is that blank letter there?", to which he responded "S". He pointed out FISHES as the only option to break the tie, and just as he was about to put it down he said "oh wait, never mind, there's no E in fishes", to which my illiterate roommate agreed. I don't know if he was referring to the plural of fish or a conjugated form of it, but apparently he thought his word was spelled 'fishs" lol. My eyes widened as he pulled away his E and he just decided to call it a tie. About 5 minutes after the game I told him "fishes" is a word (verb form) and he raged hard.
Victory! (well 1-0-1 anyway) ^_^

Qi is a word with Q that doesnt need a U
So is some other three letter one
|
Qat is also a word, lately been playing a lot of scrabble as well randomly lol

We usually use dictionary.com for confirmation of words and definitions, although I'm sure it's not much better than urbandictionary.com, and http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/qi didn't really make it like like a legitimate word, so we agreed on house rules that it's not allowed. Same with Za (even though it has a proper definition it's just one of those words we agreed on), etc, etc.

I don't know why we've been playing so much scrabble lately, but ever since like a month ago when we randomly busted it out at a party we've been playing it nearly every night haha @_@

Our game of scrabble came with a complete scrabble dictionary and a little card with every 2 letter and q (without -u) word). Eventually we just memorized them (there aren't many and a- forms like 15 2 letter words) and the increased amount of playable words make the game more competitive so we like using them
Haha Idk why we are playing so much either, its pretty fun when you can use all your tiles every once in a while lol

Lol. Super intense
I remember we were in english and if we won scrabble we got like 5 pts ec.
one kid was on the cusp and tried to cheat. Got caught.
All fail.

I'm considering finding an online scrabble dictionary just so we can play the game with it and not have any arguments over the whether the words are real or not

If you don't memorise every 2 & 3 letter plus every 4 letter that uses a 5+ tile, and at least some common bingo roots, you haven't even touched competitive scrabble.

I hate people who use words like qi and qatand what not. Use real words damnit!

when I play online scrabble, I cheat by using this to test words before committing them to the board :O
But yes, everyone should know about qat, qi, za, etc. before even consulting the official dictionary. Infact, it's a good idea to memorize most of these if you want a serious edge in winning scrabble http://boardgames.about.com/od/scrabble/a/q_without_u.htm

LOL fucking love intense scrabble, and love it even more when my friends get a brain fart to lose them the game
|
Isn't the rule in Scrabble that your opponent can challenge if a word is real or not? Then if it is, he loses a turn, and if it isn't you lose your turn? Something along those lings.
|
the guy probably thought it was spelt "fish's" >_<
and fishes is a correct pluralization of fish, as well as a verb like you stated
|
the trick with scrabble to find out a field that you know more than your opponent, then bluff. For example, I am a chemistry major, i can put something down like dyzogen and say its a chemical which stimulates the creative center of the brain, since people dont know, they cant be sure to call you out on it. Fields that work well includes all the sciences, doctors, basically any specialty.

aren't you supposed to subtract the tiles you have left in your hand when the game is over?
