Soooo. It was black friday yesterday. No shit. My mom dragged me shopping.
The majority of the shopping went like this
"I'm really cheap, and we could afford this but I'd feel bad if I got it, but it's your fault that I'm not gonna get it"
However, I did manage to get a couple items for myself. By that I mean one item LOL.
Namely... this.

However, this brought me to think about my standard clothing. Looks are certainly not everything, but I probably dress the most boringly of any person alive. I dont' want to look like a tool, but neither of my parents ever shop. Ever. For anything clothing related. A lot of my friends dress either nerdy as heck, or like idiots. Idiots as in spend a shitton of money, and look marginal.
When dressing up I look fine. I am small enough I can get boys suits. The finest of boys suits >.>
My main question has to do with everyday dress at highschool. Right now I'm wearing plain tshirts/hoodie if cold/jeans/tennis shoes on sale at Big 5 Sporting Goods xd.
Does anyone have generic succestions for what to look for in clothing/casual/etc.
Also, in terms of haircut I've had it in the same short sort of buzz cut for at least 10 years. I'm not sure if I want to wear it out, but I don't know exactly what to do with it....
This is me. Plus terrible tennis shoes. I forgot them, but I cba to actually retake the picture. Also, I am significantly older than 12 years old.
No hipster style for me XD
And moving along.
I live in boring place. Right now my life is generally boring. I could certainly do things to improve that, but with college apps and general lazyness on my part, I am not lol.
How I feel right now is I could certainly do a lot of good things. If I just do an engineering major I'll have a good job, maybe a boring job, I'll do stuff, blahblahblah. My main interests are in IP law/international affairs and culture. But where are the jobs in that. And will doing a job in the area actually enable me to travel and experience those things? Having split abilities and interests is super annoying.

BAM! Dress like these sexy beasts. Just wear your clothes like these guys. You might think it's hipster, but that's cuz Asians have been dressing hipster before it was mainstream.
I don't get the whole buzz cut thing that North Americans have. Copy one of the hairstyles that the models have. Asians got sexy hair locked down.
Edit: Removed at Froadac's request.

Haha. Being a whitey makes that super weird.
That actually is a reasonable site from what I saw. Also, I have no idea about hair. Damn copying of fob hairstyles. Call me super boring and white, but it still all does seem... hipster XD

Should have "normal" short hair at least. Having a buzzcut is like being bald imo. When I see buzzcuts I always think "what will that person think when he's 40 and balding? Will he want his hair back then? It doesn't seem like he wants his hair now."
Btw, it seems like even engineering is having trouble finding jobs these days. It might not be such a problem when you graduate though, unless America is in such deep shit that it still isn't on the road to recovery in 4-5 years. I've been looking at TL blogs about graduation and looking for work and a lot of engineer grads are writing about the lack of engineering entry level jobs available. But there are other options for engineers.
The stuff you're interested in, you might be able to find jobs in Consulting, which would allow you to travel. I'm only in 1st year undergrad and I don't have a clear perspective of the real world but it seems like a wide variety of background are able to get into consulting. I've also read that they have a bias for Engineerin/Math/Comp-sci/ "hard science" majors; ones that are perceived to require a lot of analytical and problem solving skills.
Oh just saw your pic. That's the sort of hair I'm referring to. Just normal short hair.

add this goop into your hair and you'll have asian hair. or douchebag hair. I'm not sure how it'll turn out on caucasians.

I like a lot of stuff on jackthreads.com . It's pretty cheap and they rotate tons if different brands and styles every day. Also, I think everything you have on is a size too big. American Apparel has a lot of cheap basic clothes too. If you search ebay you can find it brand new and cheaper than through their website.
|
OK, thanks. Stuff might be a size too big. >.> The hoodie I got for free is american apparrel. I got it for free. Both the shirt and jeans my mom said might be too small. She has no concept of size. but it's still not terrible....
or is it?
This is about as long as my hair ever gets. Ever. No idea how I'd gel it lol.
What would you major in to consult though? tt
Not expecting you to know.

Engineering is a great major. You can figure out what kind of engineering you want to go into after starting school. And it isn't a boring career at all there are tons of opportunities for well paying and interesting jobs.

Disregard anyone who mentions yesstyle or shaving your head. Its an old meme from /fa/.
If your just focused on not dressing like shit, put all the clothes you own on your bed and immediately donate/trash everything that doesn't fit. If you don't have much money to spend just save up $200, hit up your closest h&m and buy clothes that your comfortable wearing and fit well. If your clueless pick a friend boy or girl who can dress themselves properly to take along. I wouldnt reccommend your parents. If you want to know something more specific like what colors or styles fit your body type and skin tone just ask.
As far as consultancy and jobs after college go, TL's actually a treasure trove of helpful information. There's a poster here named MightyAtom who was a senior manager at PwC. Hes done a lot of mentoring and given some pretty incredible insight on the job and life in general, definitely read his posts. There are some other expert opinions on the subject here on TL you might be able to PM for serious advice and help. if your interested in that just search.

For me, personally, it took a lot of time to find a style I both felt comfortable in and looked good in. I've tried a lot of different things, and trial and error has been a good, albeit expensive, learning experience for me.
The main problem was that I never really liked shopping. I hate going through the stores and trying on loads of different clothes; my mindset used to be "get in, shop, get out", so much so that I'd sometimes settle for clothes that didn't fit perfectly because I just wanted to get the hell outta there.
So I reached the point I guess you've reached too; I got tired of it, and enlisted help from a good friend of mine who's always dressed like a boss. I've known him since I was a kid, and so he knew about my hating shopping - he'd litterally force me through shopping centers for hours, trying on different kinds of things. Most of the time we'd buy nothing, but I slowly started to understand the concept of browsing for hours and trying on loads of different clothes; it kind of gives you an idea of the many options available, and sometimes things you'd think look weird on you actually look kind of good. Also, going to the mall just to look is a very different experience from going there to actually buy stuff; the pressure of having to come home with something to wear is completely gone, and you can focus on just having a laugh and trying things out.
Like Philo said, it's essential that you feel comfortable in your clothes, and that they fit well. The only way to achieve this, in my opinion, is to pick your cloths yourself. Enlist all the help you want, but in the end, if you don't LOVE it - don't buy it. Friends can give a valuable perspective on things, but in the end, you're the one wearing it, so YOU should feel good in it. Also, disregard the opinions of your parents, most parents aren't good at dressing their kids.
My best shopping trip yet was with my sister in H&M, a good place to get a lot of stuff for very little money. I would go to the dressing room, she'd rummage through the shop like a crazylady and constantly throw new clothes my way. I've never tried on so many clothes in so little time, and it was a blast.
As for the hair; if you've had a short haircut for many years, I'd suggest you let it grow to some length, then go to a hairdresser you've never been to before (not discount!) and have him/her come with suggestions, then pick the idea you liked the best. As with browsing clothes, though, it's imperative that you are patient with the process. I've had hairstyles varying from 2mm army cut to very long, korean-style hair, and it's one of those things I like playing with; changing haircut will change your look drastically!
Soo, TL;DR - Get many different opinions, try many different things, but in the end, you're the one to wear it - you should make the final call. Be patient with the process and spend a lot of time on it. Have fun

Thanks everyone. I shall attempt to not suck XD

I think finding a style you like is very important. Maybe spend some time in stores just looking at stuff and trying out anything you think you might like. Think about how eating food you like is that much more enjoyable than simply eating anything because you just have to. Think about clothing the same way which makes the whole thing much easier.
|
I suppose. I really should, but I have no tastes. But that probably isn't true.
Meh.
|
Also, my mom has always cut my hair. Lol. I need to find somehwere to cut it >.>
Mom said I'd have to pay but I frankly don't care. Money ain't the problem.
I shalt go through my clothes todeay.

Check out all "10 things you should know about" blogs of JWD. He usually has some good fashion tips for different styles and seasons with links to online stores. Some things you might like, some you might hate but either way you'll probably learn something from them.
