I am going to MLG Providence! YES! Super pumped. I thought I would share some photos of my preparations for this event. It is my first ever live LAN/tournament. I love signs, so I thought I would make some. Also, I know people who are flying in and cannot bring their own signs, so I went to Target to procure poster board. I bought three bright yellow posters, three white, one pink and one green. I had plans for the pink one ... Artosis is having a baby girl. :-)
Since I will be sitting with the Girls of Starcraft at some point, I thought this was appropriate.
The next step was to fill in the letters. For this I turned to my trusty super marker.
Sitting next to this marker for any length of time will make you feel very happy.
My whole apartment now smells like permanent marker.
After working on this sign for about an hour, I still had some time to kill before bed. What other sign should I make? I wanted to make one for a specific player, but I didn't know exactly which one. I wanted to be able to use my sign a lot. If I made one for HuK, I couldn't use it until Saturday afternoon. If I made one for Kiwikaki, I wouldn't know what to put on it besides Kiwikaki fighting. Also I don't want to be a fangirl ... too much. Then I had an inspiration (not entirely caused by the fact that I had a blue marker sitting next to me). I would make a sign for an entire team! Then I can use it right away Friday evening and long into the tournament Saturday and (hopefully) Sunday as well. I got my start with an image from the Internet that we all know and love, and traced it onto my sign with a pencil.
It may be hard to see but I did this all freehand. I used a ruler to measure distances.
I felt very good about this sign and even though I had to re-draw the letter "f" about 4 times before it looked good, the overall effect was terrific, if I say so myself. Time to outline!
Oh yeah!
I decided not to color in the horse because 1) I didn't want to run out of marker and 2) maybe the players can sign it! I am bringing the marker just in case. :-)
Feeling good, I went to bed and slept well.
Waking up this morning, I packed my favorite nerd t-shirts in anticipation of the most nerdy event I have ever been to (aside from GenCon).
Look for a girl wearing one of these t-shirts and you've found me!
I then proceeded to eat the breakfast of champions.
TLO, why would you ever trade a platter of cold cuts, soft boiled eggs, and delicious bread and jam for this??
I am now "working" but am waiting with eager anticipation for 5 pm and the hour drive down to Providence, where the epic weekend will begin.
If you guys want updates etc, follow me on twitter @eZaranth. If you don't want updates, then don't! I will be taking photos and video throughout the weekend. Look here for another blog of my experiences when I get home. To everyone going to MLG this weekend, see you there! To everyone watching at home, have fun! To those going to a Barcraft event, enjoy! To those not doing any of these things, what the hell is wrong with you? We are no longer friends.
Zaranth Out!
