I love this site and I even wrote my "community" essay on TeamLiquid for my college apps.
But sometimes I feel I just spend too much time posting. My reading speed is really fast, but I think I post too much... after all I want to play SC2 and get better, not necessarily speculate about player exchanges, express being sad that HongUn got knocked out of Code A, argue about irrelevant things, etc.
I have a lot of goals/dreams I want to achieve but I'm not gonna get there at this point.
Anyone got any way to help change my mindset so that I will feel encouraged to limit my time posting on TL? Right now whenever I don't wanna do homework I just come to TL and post post post, spam F5 instead of possibly playing SC2 instead haha...
Thanks in advance, love you TL!

Like any addictive drug you need self control. When you should be doing homework force yourself to do it (I know its hard) and don't go on TL no matter what. Shut down your pc (if you don't need it) or the internet to stop yourself. I mean just self controlis all you need there really are no tips to change the mindset

Request a self ban is a good way that many people have used to sober from TL.

Nope. Sorry. If I had the solution, I'd have maybe half of my posts. I think what I like the most is the lack of fear I get when posting, that a lot of people restrain themselves from being an asshole for me due to the demand of civility this place requests.

Thanks I've forgotten about techniques like turning off the monitor/PC and such...

I know exactly what you mean. I enjoy being on TL more than being on the ladder. Problem is that the scene is just so...interesting. I've probably read at least 50% of the threads on TL. By the time I'm done with one section something else worth reading pops up in another subforum.

Haha yeah. Perhaps it is important to read a lot on TL too though, to stay passionate and connected to the community and have reason to play SC2.

There were two occasions where I literally left TL for about a week because I just couldn't stand reading anything Starcraft related or even being near TL. One was after MMA lost to fucking Polt in the Super Tournament finals, the other was after the latest Proleague finals.
Other than that, I'm pretty much here all the time as well and have the same problem.

The self-ban doesn't work nearly as well as you'd think.
At least for me, I just ended up relocating my activity to a different site (i.e. Reddit). Augh.

well i use FB a lot too but not as much
I was thinking you were gonna explain that the denied urge to post would make one go crazy and waste even more time xD

I'm in the same situation lately. I mean I've always spent a huge amount of time at office to browse TL, but for the last few weeks I have no motivation to work, so I spent a lot of time reading TL, editing Liquipedia etc. I haven't achieved anything for the last 8 days and got my status review for the project the day after tomorrow.
I feel there is something missing in my life at the moment. It must be the Proleague. Once Proleague starts, I'll be able to promise myself to only check TL to read LR threads, nothing else.

Try downloading ManicTime. It keeps track of your computer usage. You can see how long you were using your browser, a game, or anything else for that matter, and it will sort the programs by time. I tend to have Chrome at the top around double the time of the next item, which is usually the game I'm playing the most at the time. Most of my Chrome usage is Teamliquid, streams, and youtube. Seeing how much time I put into the forums/streams and outside of games really makes me aware of this fact when I'm actually on the site. Get in and get out, as they say.
ManicTime: http://www.manictime.com/download/ I think it's only for windows, though.

I read some ZEN blogs a few times, he said if you are in a community or have to read a lot of mails, or use Facebook a lot and shit like that. It could be a good idea to have specific times to do it, if you have to do lists, do important stuff first in the day, when you've got the most energy. So browsing forum is allowed in the evenings, like, last 2 hours before sleep etc, could work xD

yoshi so noob at TL lol
^_^

Ask one of the mods to ban you from posting
edit: someone beat me to it lol

lol Aeres <3
Thanks, ManicTime looks useful
Thanks ImDrizzt, I haven't though about that before. I'll probably work on that, and force myself not to check TL/FB except for those specific times... that way when I do go on, I'll be more weary of how much time I have 'left' until I should get back to other stuff :D
thanks anyways dyenasty ^0^
Also, lol this blog post is 5/5? xD
