Hi, hoping someone might be able to respond to a bunch of dumb questions i have about gameplay mechanics in the new Elder scrolls game, Skyrim. It's the first time i play an elder scrolls game, or second since i played oblivion for 30min but couldn't stand it.
Pretty basic stuff but, hoping some people might be able to answer a few of them My character is a Njord thief, aiming for some dual wield daggers with crit and stuff, think Dragonage rogue/assassin, currently level 5.
Levelling pickpocketing: How the hell do i do this? I cannot pickpocket anyone without being caught despite sneaking like a boss. And everytime i get caught lol bounty.
It seems guards can see through walls? If i commit a crime with nobody around, 5min later a guard comes running after me and i have to pay a fine or go to jail, i mean you cannot do anything without the guards finding out or a bounty being set?
Combat seems... incredibly bland. I have two daggers, and i can pretty much autoattack, thats it. Also dual wielding seems to have no real advantage? I cannot parry with two daggers like i can with one and it doesn't seem like im attacking faster or anything?
I've been to one city and got there by following my "main" questline, completed a quest there and am walking towards the next area to be in. Upon arrival in the next place for this main quest, the mobs kick the living crap out of me, they regen the dmg i do with my puny iron daggers and three shot me, whats up? Obviously im too low level/have crappy items(i do) but i figured following my main quests it wouldnt be so bad.
IN early stages of games my patience just runs thin very quickly, you don't have alot to play around with. In Skyrim this is even more apparent since finding quests you have to litterally talk to every person you see in order to find quests, this is frustrating to say the least. Any way to speed up the early game a little bit?
How important is crafting? Normally i skip crafting in every game i play, but it seems to be a really big part of the game here and i might have to give it a serious try.
Anything anyone can answer would greatly increase my playing experience with this game

There are trainers that can level up your skills for a fee, for pickpocket I think their may be one in the + Show Spoiler + thieves guild hq in the riften sewers.
You're gear/perks are probably trash, the main quest line is not really that difficult. Maybe you should get a shield or something to block with.

As a thief/assassin styled character, you're going to find that it's much more important to try and plan out fights, and just "dungeon crawling" may be a bit more of a time investment. Sneak is EXTREMELY important, because the point of playing that kind of character is to get sneak attacks off on unsuspecting targets for the x3, and later x6 and x15 multipliers. The payoff is that you (should) be able to rob peoples' houses as well, or avoid enemies in dungeons.
I think until you A) get the perks that make dagger sneak attacks better or B) get the perks that make dual wield usable, you should just use one big longsword for combat. I'm pretty sure it gets the same sneak attack bonuses that daggers would, but you focus more on being able to get one big hit in for that multiplier.
Unlike in Oblivion, the main questline isn't something you can just grind out really fast and then do the rest of the game; instead, it is like Morrowind. You are expected to level and do some other stuff because there is hard stuff that has a static level (for the most part).
I would suggest you venture to Rifton and investigate that town (take the carriage near Whiterun if that's where you are right now), there will be a lot of fun quests for the stealthy type there
But the overall takeaway here is that Skyrim isn't about finishing the main quest right away. Take some time to explore and just do whatever comes up. Avoid the trolls and giants in the mountains because they WILL kill you. And have fun ^_^
EDIT: I think you may be talking about the Ice Troll on the 7,000 steps part. RUN AWAY FROM HIM!!!

guards can't see through walls, actually they're very stupid just look around and make sure you're "HIDDEN" before you do stealing or lockpicking infront of guards.
You can hold direction movements + hold down mouse buttons to do "special" attacks. Also, you get bonuses when you level up by putting points into the skill tree.
