The silver guy could have a higher MMR than several of the gold players you're facing because some golds will be on the way down to silver and some silvers on the way up. If you're generally playing gold then it's good. If you were generally playing silver then it would be less good.
You'll also have win streaks and losing streaks in a pretty big way during your games simply due to statistics and not because you're slumping or playing better. Try and feel how you've played during a day or a week and how your matchups feel and don't get hung up on your rank etc because it's simply too volatile. I feel really good about my matchups right now and yet I went on a 4-game losing streak last night. I know i'm improving though and I just made small mistakes which cost me games but the foundations are solid. I then played badly and won a game. Even though that one was a pretty funny game and pulling out the win made me glad with some of my later decision making.. it's painful to think about some of the early game mistakes which should have caused me to lose.

To be honest for past 2 weeks i wasnt even in top 8, my friends where trolling me hard to get top 8 cause they where, and now they arent even in top 8 and I am. Its cool to be in top 8 but was never a goal until recently. I play vs gold and I played so far only 1 game today ( because I don't play before noon ) and it was vs a Silver. I could have played better, I took my gold as a third on Shattered temple i believe ( the replacement for lost temple) but i didn't put any drones on it because he pushed and I had to defend his attack. Which I did and was able to just Que units to win, and during this time i made a 4th but he gg'ed before i could get any drones mining at all on 3rd or 4th.
I had a huge problem for a long time of not droning cause I used to favor early aggression and ending games quick. Cheese. I started doing ice fisher for a bit and it helped my drone count rise to the point where i usually make to much. So i am currently trying to find that perfect number of drones for my play style. 60-70 perhaps? i know pros get 75.
Like my title of my blog says its the road to gold, but Gold is just around the corner so its going to continue to progress. This blog is mostly for me to look back on, i wish i did this in bronze and laugh at myself now, but I am starting now so in a years time i'll be enjoying a good read.
