Well, here goes another blog.
For the past several years I have been doing various different things (video games, making videos, sports, clubs), but so far I haven't really found anything that I am really good at. Every thing that I have done in the past seems to only be average. Every video game I play, i pick up the game/controls/whatever quickly, and get to an average skill level, but after that I find it nearly impossible to improve past that average level. I don't know if it is a problem with dedication or just who I am, but I never seem to get above-average. I basically seem to be a jack of all trades, master of none. Same thing goes for sports. I can play soccer/volleyball/whatever and perform average, but I can never really get good. It seems to be this way for everything I do, online or offline.
It is depressing knowing that I am just average at everything, pro at nothing. Every time i try to find something I am really good at, it just turns out there are tons of people that are better than I am. I don't know if I am spreading myself too thin or something, but it just seems like I can never get one thing down to a great level. I can't get anything done that will actually make a difference.
TL;DR: I can't find one thing I am really good at.

Don't worry about what you're good at. Focus on what you would like to do for a living despite how much skill is available at the moment
|
Well it seems like you are C- at life. Just think about all the D- around the world and you will feel better.

Since you manage to get decent/average in so many things, you obviously have some kind of "natural talent." So the lack of dedication might really be an issue. Have you ever picked one thing and really tried to improve for a long time, one or two years at least? Or do you lose interest and give up quickly?
Other than that, it might also be a question of perspective. How good do you want to be? Most people never really master anything. That is why Pros get paid for the stuff they do.

The majority of the people in this world are unfortunately average at most things. Learn to embrace mediocrity

Don't worry, I am significantly below average at everything I do. Buck up!

How much time have you put into each of these things? Also, you shouldn't ever be surprised when you get into something and there are lots of people that are already really good. Why wouldn't there be? You might find that when you put as much time into something that the existing pros are, you get similar results to them.

The only thing that I have really stuck with for over 3 years is Runescape, but I quit after about 6 and a half because I realised how fucking stupid the game is. Every time I try to stick to something (Take Starcraft 2 for an example), I do it for a while, then find something else and completely abandon the thing I was previously focusing on.

I find myself in the same situation, but I really enjoy filling that "jack of all trades" role. I love knowing a good amount of information about most topics, being able to play most sports at an average level. I find my situation to be better then most since I know people who just SUCK at doing certain things, and personally performing at a sub-average level would really make me sad.
Or maybe I'm just ok with being average, either way I think it's a good place to be

Been trying at it for 3 years, but maybe this time I can finally get a response from somewhere

Becoming excellent at something takes time and work. Very few people are born being able to do something so much better than everyone else. Those that are generally do some crazy genius shit. Everyone else depends on a bit of natural affinity, and mostly a shitton of effort.
Find something you can be passionate about for a long time. Be disciplined enough to continue on when it gets hard, and you feel stuck. Keep the same energy and focus in your practice each day so you do not learn bad habits. Learn anything and everything you can from people who are better than you. Keep practicing.
A few years is way too short to be 'pro' at something. Spend at least 10 years before you expect yourself to start competing at the top, and if you are truly passionate about it, expect that you will spend the rest of your life pursuing mastery without reaching perfection.

lol same thing i do. im average at everything because i get bored of it. dedicate yourself!

Be really good at being solid at everything. Make it your quest that no matter what someone asks you to do you can do a pretty decent job of it.

I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I don't do things half-heartedly. Because I know if I do, I can expect half-hearted results.
I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.
I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
I've never been afraid to fail.
If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
I know that it is within me even if you can't see it yet... I have something more important than courge. I have patience. I will become what I know I am.
