Although it is unfortunate this came to pass, I just wanted to say one thing. I was at MLG Orlando, and saw Milkis running around, everywhere. He was always busy translating something, helping players get to where they needed to be on time, pretty much anything. From personal experience, translating even an article can be difficult because of various idioms or phrases that cannot be directly translated. Add on to that translating on the run, for several people, and always looking out for them as well as yourself has to be exhausting. I found what Milkis had to do was amazing and although no translation can ever be absolutely perfect, I think he showed everybody in the "esports" world the dedication it requires in order to make all of this something bigger and better than it ever was.

If you do end up following through with this, best of wishes towards what you decide to do with your life.

Edit: Some people disgust me.

Are you pleased you little, internet fucks!? Look at what you have done to one of the most passionate people inside e-sports community! From a person I was inspired by, from a person who showed me what you can do for others, from THE ONE who brought MKP to MLG and made us all proud of what can be done, he became someone who under all this shit you have made lost his love. I don't want to live on this world anymore.
Milkis I wish there was better world in which you could be yourself. If it isn't Starcraft community for you, please do make a change. In this day I feel shame for our community.
Hope to hear from you again. Love you.

You've obviously never spoken to Milkis. He complained about almost everything he did. I don't think he's enjoyed being a part of this community for the last couple of months.

who would when our favorite game is fading away, and the TL community is being (has already been) replaced by a bunch of immature SC2 blockheads who have no regard for the history of its predecessor

Then why did he decide to get into the spotlight of the SC2 scene? He didn't have to, no one forced him. If you don't like it - that's fine. But dont do it (when you dont have to) and then later complain about how much it sucks.

I'm Done.

It's kind of a hard decision to make, to cut it all off and just leave. But I've spent thinking about it over the night and honestly I can't think of what would ever motivate me to do anything within this sphere of "eSports" anymore.

I'll be honest. I never expected people to agree with my opinion on what makes something an eSport or not. I've been quite honest about how my opinion is elitist, and I fully expected disagreement over the definition. Of course, looking at some of the reactions did make me realize that yes, I should have been more careful about how I phrased it. I obviously didn't mean to "shit" on other games as a competitive game, but I could see why people would see it in that way.

But does all this mean that any of you have the right to call me retarded? an idiot? I couldn't care less about what you considered my opinion. What I care about is the comments that suddenly popped up. Apparently, suddenly, I'm a terrible translator. Everything is a fluke. There are suddenly no place in eSports for people like me.

You know, let me tell you this. I never wanted to do live translation to begin with. Deciding to help out at MLG Columbus took a pretty big decision because live translation was absolutely the last thing I wanted to do. And yet MLG looked like they needed someone so I jumped on board. I asked Lee if I absolutely had to and he said it was expected for me to. So I did it.

Call me "nervous" whenever I go on stage but it's more exhaustion than anything else considering I'm terrible at taking care of myself at MLGs because I always run around so much and I have trouble putting myself before other things that need to be done. One of the reasons why I decided not to go to Providence (and apparently, it was the correct decision) was because I looked at myself in a mirror during the event at Orlando and I looked pretty much dead. I look nervous? No, I'm fucking exhausted.

It's kind of shitty when people start criticizing you over shit like this. "OH HES SUCH A BAD TRANSLATOR HE IS ALWAYS SO NERVOUS". Or someone to say "My KR friend says X" or "X is better". Right.

And then comes the criticism of my written work. Suddenly, everything I do is shit. Everything I've done is absolute shit. And people start agreeing with it because you disagree with my opinion?

You want to know why I bothered doing anything for the community? Because I always thought the community deserved more. I never wanted to be popular nor did I want attention (although I guess I did enjoy it, but it's not something I ever wanted). It's the last thing I wanted. All I wanted to do was bring you guys good content, and I always just wanted the means to do so. I wanted to do a lot of nice things for the community because I was capable of doing it and seeing you guys appreciate the content was always good enough. Why else would I take on any of these extra works, or brainstorm a ton of new things I could do for the community? Sadly, none of these will come to fruition anymore but I guess it doesn't even matter.

I've never been so absolutely demotivated in my life. It's kind of hilarious how people can be. All over a single opinion. A single opinion that no one even bothered reading because everyone started putting words in my mouth and then attacking me personally. And then giving me lectures.

I'm done. I guess it's good riddance for all of you.

Please don't go, Milkis. You're awesome for the community, and the b****es over at Reddit don't seem to remember how awesome you are. Hell, you got their hero MKP to MLG Orlando, and he proceeded to kick ass.

I can't pretend to know how good your live translation, but I've never heard a player complain about your translation, and that's great in my book. You're a good man, and if you can rise above petty people crying that you don't think SC2 has risen to SC:BW's level yet, and keep up the great work you're doing, I can guarantee at least my nerd-love.

what happened? Milkis writes a non-factual article on reddit bashing every non-bw pro gamer and gets called out by djWheat. Now he does the coward thing of crying and running away. Nothing special, we don't need people this weak to begin with.

I always thought Milkis was weird when he almost started crying when EGAlex just asked a question.

He didn't say other esports were BS, he just told that BW was bigger than every other esports, and by his oppinion it was the only one fulfilling his conditions being an esport (meaning it gets as close to sport as possible).

Can you argue with it? Is there an other game people don't play but watch it on TV? Is there an other game where huge companies invest so much money that some players get more than 200000$ per years? Is there an other game that has or had as much crowd watching it live?

You may not agree to his conditions, but you can't disagree that bw has accomplished much more than any other game yet.

always appreciated your work and will appreciate any future work you might do

The top reply on reddit is by djwheat. Is he one of the "the same shitty people" you're talking about? Because his criticism was right on the spot and, unlike the original troll post, well articulated and inoffensive.

Are we talking about this post?

I love how you are so passionate and intimate about the BW scene and what is stands for. But your ongoing attacks towards any non-BW related eSports is quite frankly fucking bullshit. You disrespect every gamer who has participated in eSports for the past 13 years.
You act as if no one else ever even cared about another game. That other gamers didn't put blood, sweat, and tears into their game of choice.
You claim that BW is the only eSport, but I think eSports is the thousands of gamers (whether they play CS, Carom 3D, BW, WC3, Street Fighter, etc) who have a level of passion for the game that transcends what's normal. The same gamers who compete on the highest tier of their level.
You just said fuck you to Justin Wong and Daigo.
You just said fuck you to Zero4 and Tox1c.
You just said fuck you to cArn and Frod.
How can you say fuck you to the legends who have put just as much of an effort into their game as someone like Flash or Jaedong?

It's pretty much a direct attack, it has nothing to do with anything Milkis wrote in his post and Milkis' post didn't imply any of that at all.

His post was straight up inflammatory and an invitation to the lynch mob to go to work.

Yes, it was somewhat inflammatory, but what do you except when you make a such a controversial post at a place that doesnt share your opinion? As I said, it's like making a post on TL about how Starcraft is inferior to Counterstrike.

But Milkis' post didn't simply say that all other games are inferior to BW (such an opinion I could actually understand). What he said was that the professionals who play any game other than BW are not actually sportsmen/women, and that those activities are not esports. Because the composition of the audience is different.

That's not actually what he said but the audience part is still a fair point

"many of these games such as Counter Strike or Quake do have a large competitive scene, to call it a "sport", that is, to give those games all the implications behind such a word is a bit too far fetched."

"Brood War is the only true eSports."

That is exactly what he said.

Why are people still begging him to stay? It's clear he's not coming back, and he's unwilling to defend his argument, which is built on a series of bad points. Maybe he'll join the BW scene in some capacity, since it's the only esport apparently.

I remember watching some small tourney with a female caster (she was a decent caster), and here's what people said about her (It wasn't Kelly btw):
"Dumb bitches should stay out of this game"
"Get back in the kitchen"
"Get a real caster so you can make him a sandwich"
"Fucking dumb bitch but I'd fuck her"
"I hope she dies"
I said "I don't think she's that bad honestly"
Here's what people said about me:
"lol fag"
"Stop white knighting bitch"
"lol stupid virgin"
"No place in the world for bitches like you two"
"I hope you die"
"I hope your mother gets cancer you stupid virgin white knight loser"

Here's the point: a lot of people fucking suck. But they are simply idiots at their computer with nothing better to do. Everyone who does anything ever, particularly in front of large groups including the internet, deals with them. That sums up all of the excessively harsh posts. Not really a big deal.

For those who disagreed on your reddit post without being harsh (such as DjWheat), you took a pretty polarizing position on the issue of BW vs. all other games, and people inevitably disagreed with you. Hell, I think BW is the best game ever and I thought your point was a bit unfair.

But honestly, you are a respected figure who is recognized for doing something in the sc2 community, which is something I'd love to be in a few years (as well as many other people on here I'm sure), you really shouldn't be quitting over anything like this.
They're fools. You should eat them.

First off, just want to say that I enjoyed all the work that Milkis provided (mainly translation work), as for me he was the communication link between foreigners and Koreans.

However, it is hard for me to sympathize with him, especially after reading such a bitter post. But let me say this, and I hope you read this Milkis: you need to grow thicker skin. You're not a kid anymore, and you should know by now that in the world, there will always be haters. Not everyone is going to tell you that you're greatest guy in the world. If you want to leave the community forever, fine go ahead, but you should have taken the high road when you posted this. You're not a victim and nobody will feel sorry for you. The more defensive you get, the more people will shit on you (e.g. INcontroL).

Trust me, if you simply disregard what the trolls/haters say, you will have a much happier life, and that applies to everything (family life, internet, professional life, school, etc). You have absolutely no control over what somebody else says/does. What you control is how YOU react to that. And this time, you blew it. Because leaving the community and deleting your twitter and reddit account means you acknowledge what the trolls say about you and you are simply running away.

Think about it though, at the end of the day, why should trolls/haters have an influence on what you do in life? You said it yourself that you do enjoy providing content for the community, isn't that motivation enough to continue doing so? How did all the supportive comments you received made you feel? think about how much us foreigners enjoyed reading you translations (especially your blog). Why should the hater comments outweigh all the love/support you receive from the community?

Anyways just my 2 cents. Felt the need to post this and hope Milkis reads this because even if he is deadset on not coming back, I won't be surprised if he reacts the same way he just did to other things in life. I just hope he changes for the better. Hope you know that I'm not attacking you with this post and I did enjoy all the content you provided us. Good luck in your future endeavours
