does everyone at TL get a free "monarch is a douchebag"?? I hope so :X I kind of feel bad for him, despite the stupidity of that PM and how bitter he obviously feels, it must suck to have so many people at TL hate on you haha. So hilarious though.
And yeah wtf rekrul needs to learn the English that illiterate bastard rofl
As for attending MLG's... Well, I'll leave my opinion on the matter to my 400 page long novel soon to be published in 50 different countries and translated to over 70 languages. I have aptly titled it:
"I live in Norway, goddamnit"

Seriously though, I think Hot_Bid said that 80% of MLG is partying, who the hell doesn't go because one of their biggest issues is that they have to stand (or they lose their seat). the games are on the internet after anyways, why not just watch the games after you went to MLG if you don't like standing that much
No really, send me, I'll take pictures for you and talk to everyone you want me to bwahah Yeah but the parties only apply to like 1% of the people that go to MLG's in the end, if you really think about it. You have to know somebody to get in to them and they're pretty crowded. To be honest in the end the fan interaction with players and the atmosphere is what brings people to events and what will always make MLG run out of seats. HotBid makes a great analogy, some people like watching an NFL game from home, maybe invite a few friends over or even just watch it by yourself. Maybe you'll go to a bar for the small atmosphere there. But in the end, people will still show up to the stadiums because the atmosphere there is unlike anything you can emulate at home or at a bar. Bullshit. I meet at least 20-30 people per event that have ZERO previous history with anyone (just random fans) that end up getting to tag along with the pros and party all weekened/ It's sort of cool when it happens too, you can tell the person was hoping to maybe say hi to one player and here they are with this look of amazement as they are partying with a bunch of pros. Is it a small %? Sure. But these are people with NO previous connections. atmuh did it to me at MLG Raleigh. Unreal stalker. hey man as pro as my stalker skills were at Raleigh I DID actually have some history with some people (that weren't actually there hehehehe)

You had to have connections to get into the hotel bar at the Raleigh Marriott? I didn't see any bouncers.

Raleigh was a bit unique lol, I was more referring to Columbus n before

True, he could watch it from his home and suffer from all the down time of not having games to watch and not inconvenience anyone with his debbie downer presence.
Some people would give up a lot to be in his position of having the chance to watch an MLG, and interact with a shit-ton of fans and TL colleagues IRL. I pity him for not making the most of it.

I mostly agree with the OP / Hot_Bid and atmuh. Watching tournaments in your region from home (or a bar if available) on a big screen TV in HD with a bunch of friends has a lot of advantages. Playing games or just bullshitting in the downtime. At home most of the time sitting on a big ass couch is more comfortable in any case as chairs on venues. And also taking a nice toilet break becomes less of a hassle
Tournaments played in other regions (like America if you live in Europe) are left out of the equation because most of the time you can't even afford to go there time or money wise and if you want to watch them you'll need either a bar or sitting alone behind your computer so you can easily go to bed when absolutely unable to keep your eyes open. If you first have to kick all your friends out it becomes annoying for eveyone
Edit: but that is just the comfort / conveniance aspect. The whole meeting new people and the atmosphere of such a big venue not considered.

LOL Rekrul has become so epic that drama now comes to him even when he isn't doing anything.
|
Monarch, you have a SC podcast and you don't know who Rekrul is?
I think going to a live event is so much more than just watching the games on a bigger screen (and in a less comfortable chair) but it's rather difficult to reproduce the atmosphere of a huge hall full of nerds at home. I'd really like to go to an MLG one day, although currently logistics are difficult
|
When I went to MLG Anaheim.. I didn't even really watch the games. IMO going to a live event is about so much more.
It's about meeting all of these people you hear about and talk to in real life and having fun. You get to make new friends and just talk about the game we all love. You even get to go to the parties
And at home it's purely about the games, which is still awesome, but not the same.

Wow, this thread has gotten a lot of attention.
1) Didn't mean to make waves, which is why I PM'ed Rekrul, he was the one who decided to post the PM in the thread 2) I don't follow or care about what happened in Broodwar in 2003 or have encyclopedia knowledge of every high post count has-been in the scene 3) StarCrack is an SC2 podcast with very little discussion about BW. 4) Posting "no one cares" can be said in just about every blog post on this site. 5) I like making bullet point lists to prove my point 6) The TL mods have yet again proved why Reddit is more relevant in the SC2 scene and sites like Wellplayed.org have sprout up. They have an unabashed bias towards high post count members which is was shown by issuing me a warning when I posted "who cares" in Rekrul's blog yet none was issued to him or the other douche who quoted him.

A "bias" towards "high post count members"...
1) Your PM was stupid and slightly racist, suggesting that SK would be fucked (actually, you said it outright) if not for America. Whether that's true or not is a whole different matter, it's the fact that you actually felt the need to say it as if to insult Rekrul (who is American himself).
2) Well then it's too bad you basically talked shit to one of the most respected people within the community. You should of known better to be honest.
3) Considering the PM you sent to Rek it's fairly hilarious you actually mentioned how Starcrack was "an sc2 podcast"
4) Yes. Yet for some reason you made a big deal out of it, much to the hilarity of everyone.
5) No one cares
6) OMG! People who have been around for ages and have earned the respect of everybody here are held to a higher caliber than others and will receive leniency! No shit!
This is no secret. In fact if you'd read the 10 commandments you'd know this. It's one of the things that makes TL great; a forum newbie (like myself, relative to the more respected veterans) can't just go and insult great personalities and veterans with 10k+ posts and over one year of active posting on TL. I don't post on reddit myself, but if they treat everybody equally then I don't wish to. I'm sure Reddit is great and all that, but yeah.
If you think wp.org and reddit are fantastic sites, then that's excellent. If you disagree with TL's moderation policies, you can either try to post in website feedback, or you can go away from TL.
edit: Oh yeah, the "douche who quoted him", people aren't normally punished for agreeing with people, as long as they add something as far as I'm aware of.

If by nothing by image memes and "shit like this posts" are relevant, than sure r/starcraft is relevant.
How do you know TL's bias towards Rekrul is unabashed if you don't know anything about Rekrul and perhaps the other members who have been here for a long time and are most likely deserving of their special treatment as they have earned it.
