Rofl, how does anybody try to act as elitist as the OP to write that post and pretend they know a lick about starcraft when they don't know who Rekrul is.
Respect to Rekrul lol, get blown the fuck up OP.

op is trying to get his 5stars don't fall for it.

Hahahahahaha I got a good laugh out of this

hmm.. interesting read.
I can see the OP's points clearly.
I think one has to remember also.. that unless you are a truly diehard starcraft (or Halo/COD) fan.. there really is not much value in going to an MLG event. This is where MLG fails big time. As a fan of eSports for over 15 years and someone who has been to many different events.. the MLG events are the least appealing. Even if MLG offered up a huge plate of PC FPS Games (ie: QuakeLive).. and all of the best from around the world were going to be there.. I would find it difficult to justify spending the money and time to travel to the event. Outside of sitting or standing on cold concrete and watch 2 guys in a box battle it out over a large screen.. there is not much offering from MLG.
This is why.. I can see their model changing to a more 'studio' setting... or.. They expand to offer space for other vendors and other activities that make the experience more 'esports and fan' friendly.
I am curious.. outside of the NASL or MLG events over the last 2 years.. how many other events have most of you been to? How many purely eSport/Gaming events.. that did not highlight SC2?
Just my 3 cents...

because it's an excuse to talk sports.
Honestly for professional sports (at least for me) the big swaying factor was not the comfort level but instead for the cost of going to a game. I had season tickets to the Jets for many years and at that time they were on a waiting list that lasted forever, and people would have gone to great lengths to be able to get to the top of that list to start getting season tickets. After the new Stadium, PSLs, and our ticket prices going from $180 to I think $450 a ticket, we decided to stop our season tickets and watch everything from home. This was common with most people that had them which is what led to there being so much more availability (not even selling out games) the past two seasons.
The same thing happened with the Yankees and the Mets the past few seasons since they built their new ballparks (well the Mets being a complete joke as much as I love them helps towards that too). The super expensive seats very rarely sell out. I only really know the situation in New York though, as I couldn't talk about teams around the country, but the big sports cities still have no problem drawing the big crowds.
The comfort of watching a game at home is definitely a factor in this, but not really the biggest factor that determines if a game is going to sell out or not.
Anyways ignoring all this Rekrul knows what's up.

What I find funny about it is, that really noone cares why THIS mediocre guy is not going to an MLG. All he said does apply to every event. Is it a concert, is it sports, is it a fucking Subway.
"Here are the main reasons why I feel the home eating experience is best: Negatives of the events: 1) Distance - I only live 3 minutes away from a Subway, but it's still a haul. 2) Cost - Travel expenses (gas, parking lot etc), plus the cost of admission to the food 3) Seating - U leave U lose your seat 4) Matches - You only get 1 meal at a time at the avenue 5) Commentary - Noone gives commentary on food.
Positives of staying home: 1) Comfort of your own home 2) Costs nothing to eat at home if there is a delivery service. 3) Never have to worry about losing your seat 4) You get both meals at the same time, which is amazing. 5) During downtime you don't have to sit around, you can play SC2 or literally anything else."

Send me to fucking MLG Orlando and I will show you why it's better than looking at your LCD flat-screen of 15 to 23 inches in front of your leather black chair and dauntingly poorly-lit room while it eats your bandwidth and forces you watch all the games with the potential of streaming issues, terrible intermission music and constant views of how the crowd looks like without you and the number of chairs that were stolen within the those moments. Send me to MLG and I will show you that meeting a bunch of professionals, all these awesome community members and decent food than your hot-pockets from that dingy old-fashioned scuffed up white microwave and those flat-tasting beers you have in the back of your fridge.
Seriously though, I think Hot_Bid said that 80% of MLG is partying, who the hell doesn't go because one of their biggest issues is that they have to stand (or they lose their seat). the games are on the internet after anyways, why not just watch the games after you went to MLG if you don't like standing that much
No really, send me, I'll take pictures for you and talk to everyone you want me to bwahah

Anyways ignoring all this Rekrul knows what's up. It's a business. A for-profit enterprise.
Even with just 50% admission, if the prices of all the tickets went up by a similar percentage, they're actually making more money than they were before. They're just smarter now than they used to be..... Revenues coming from the venue are a basically just a drop in the bucket compared to the sponsorship and advertising revenues, but trying to optimize a source of revenue is still in the interest of the ownership of the team/stadium.
The vast majority of people who watch football, baseball, and other sports, do so from home. At the same time, a game of football wouldn't be the same if there was no crowd in the stands, so as long as the stadiums have some people in them, I don't think that charging more to watch the games from the stands will directly hurt the quality of the games.
E-sports needs to head in this direction in the future if it is going to become something big. If some people aren't thrilled about going to a live event, and would rather watch from home, well, that's to be expected, since that happens with all other sports. But, at the moment, these e-sports events are a lot smaller than other professional sports. As such, it's going to be hard for them to charge 450 bucks for a spectator ticket, when it could cost the person another 500+ for other expenses just to attend the event, and still hope to draw any crowd, but tournaments like the NASL and MLG are definitely leading us in the right direction.

Yeah but the parties only apply to like 1% of the people that go to MLG's in the end, if you really think about it. You have to know somebody to get in to them and they're pretty crowded. To be honest in the end the fan interaction with players and the atmosphere is what brings people to events and what will always make MLG run out of seats.
HotBid makes a great analogy, some people like watching an NFL game from home, maybe invite a few friends over or even just watch it by yourself. Maybe you'll go to a bar for the small atmosphere there.
But in the end, people will still show up to the stadiums because the atmosphere there is unlike anything you can emulate at home or at a bar.

Bullshit. I meet at least 20-30 people per event that have ZERO previous history with anyone (just random fans) that end up getting to tag along with the pros and party all weekened/ It's sort of cool when it happens too, you can tell the person was hoping to maybe say hi to one player and here they are with this look of amazement as they are partying with a bunch of pros. Is it a small %? Sure. But these are people with NO previous connections.

I think the chance to meet a bunch of TLers would be the most fun I could ever have at a MLG. At LAN ETS, me and about 14 TLers and players went to Reuben's and we just talked, joked and laughed about a whole bunch of things.
It was pure wholesome fun :3
