Last time it was about the fighting styles of Bud Spencer/Terence Hill, Chuck Norris/Kwai Chang Caine and Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan resembling the style of playing with Terran, Protoss and Zerg respectively.
This time I came up with a different sort of comparison, classes in our society
Check it out:
Let's start with Protoss. Don't they have like the shiniest and beautifully designed buildings. If you had the choice to live in one of the buildings from this game I wouldn't be surprised if you chose the lavishness of a Templar Archives, Citadel of Adun or Arbiter Tribunal. I mean what else is there .. Ultralisk Cavern?! No thanks. A pool sounds nice but I prefer clear water over sticky, green slime. Maybe you'd compromise to stay at a Science Facility or Academy if it has a nice view by a lake or something, but you get my point.
Like there are different castes in India, Protoss has to be the top caste. Even the names of certain units suggest it like Archon (Lord) or Arbiter (Judge). The Templars of Europe were noblemen and administered great wealth in their time.
So to once again clarify what I am attributing to each race.. not necessarily how much money a class of people has but more the lifestyle, the je ne sais quoi that makes the lives of a certain class of people more luxurious. For this I assume that there is a different dynamic between the members of each of the three segments of the wealth spectrum. Polo clubs have a different bundle of social characteristics like say those who go bet on cock fights. Which doesn't necessarily mean that a cockfight bookie has less money than some uptown lad named Chad or Carlton, but one could assume so.
Next up the Cowboys of Space.. Terran. They like to get their hands dirty from time to time and don't need a fancy shield (economic safety net guaranteed by wealthy parents) or anything. They are the working class, operating heavy machinery and sweating their balls of to get things done for an unrewarding wage. Among their kind you can find the pseudo-intellectual anarchy-revolutionist type (Vulture) as well as the law-abiding father of 2,3 kids average Joe (Siege Tank). As well as sexy nurses and foxy Russian accent college graduand with ok jobs in marketing and consulting and all sorts of domains like that (it's not obvious that I mean Valkyrie pilots but whatever).
Last but not least those unfortunate enough to live in the jungle of poverty. Here I'll start the next level of my analogy by referring to the form in which each of the categories organize themselves and who rises to power in each of the 3 environments.
Picture a nasty place like the Ghettos of South Africa. It's a gang environment, each gang with a pyramidal structure. You rise in ranks by earning respect, you earn respect by doing bad things to your enemies. The tip of these pyramids is always a certain kind of person, a boss, an overlord who has a gang of minions or underlings. Once a boss he doesn't do much himself, he just manages his influence.
But let's not just talk about that particular kind of poverty. There are unfortunates everywhere when compared to their counterparts living with them in the same region. And when someone is unfortunate his possibilities are limited. And when possibilities are limited it's easy to get bored, frustrated even aggressive. And when there is a vent to channel that aggression like say .. a football firm, I mean the real Ultra hooligans. A force to be reckoned with especially if they get unsatisfied with the government.
What do all of these have in common? Raw instinct. The philosophy of doing what you can to survive and punish those who oppose you. One could amount these impulses of the ruling subconscious and call it collectively: The Overmind.
Back to the Protoss, the only race that you could pick and be the commander of that could theoretically be all races. Mind Control. Very rarely used in actual games but it's there .. and it fits in just dandy with the scheme. I'm talking mass media, and manipulative education and conditioning. There's one category of people who can pull this off.. and it's not the middle class dude nor the poor gangster / psycho / thug. It's the richest of the rich, the shadow government.. the dark archons. Clandestine lineages of power cultivated throughout the ages, invisible to the public, join forces / merge to form the ultimate testament to manipulation.
In ancient Greece, the first democracy in Athens, they had something called ὁ ὀστρακισμός or Scherbengericht in German. It was a summit of the town elders where they voted by writing a name of one of their own on a piece of clay. The man with the most votes was usually the wealthiest among them, he who acquired a dangerous amount of riches and therefore became a liability, as he could be potentially amassing an army and trying to seize control, becoming a tyrant. So he was banished like the dark templar were banished by the conclave. But were his riches stripped from him? No. Did he feel angry enough to hold a darkness in his soul, which could be passed on from generation to generation, a secret agenda? Likely.
So how could a war between these castes look like? Like any other war, by gathering resources and denying and prohibiting your opponent from doing the same. Each caste has its strengths and weaknesses. For one.. over 50% of the population could be considered poor. So if it was an open streetfight with no extra imbalances it's clear who would outnumber and overwhelm who. These folks have no problem whatsoever with stealing, dealing, buying lodes of old weapons, sabotage and conquering countries with the wombs of their women.
The middle class consisting of people who have the possibility and means to flourish in society as a birth right account for another 40%. Access to technology, material and bringing the innovations in science makes individuals of this caste slightly superior in a 1 to 1 comparison to the lower caste. They may be outnumbered but not outgunned so to speak.
The 10% at the top may consider themselves manly for riding the top of the pyramid and living on the fast lane like John F. Kennedy, Jr. and superior .. a superior race maybe even .. but they're actually hiding behind the misery and lack of opportunity of others. It's in their nature to steal from the poor masses and give to thyself and they have very sophisticated methods in doing so, it almost looks like magic. They can cause a hell of a Storm in the economy and just like that your country's money is gone.
So, which side would you choose?
TL;DR: read it or gfg
