Edit: If you're looking for a blog with interesting content rather than someone passing time writing about unnecessary SC2 stuff unrelated to anything, this thread would just be a waste of your time, sorry. You have been warned.
First, my placement match for season 3. I finally did it yesterday after having put it off thanks to re-buying Neverwinter Nights 2 and that stealing my attention for a long while. That game was the first one I'd played in about 3 weeks, and since I'm fairly sure I wasn't looking at promotion or demotion out of it (I'm strong Gold, but not Plat...yet) I didn't worry about warming up or anything. So a brief recap of the game.
Setting the scene, I'm Zerg and this was a ZvT on Backwater Gultch (I seem to be the only Zerg on the planet who doesn't mind this map?). The game opens with a standard bunker attempt which I easily shut down with a 14gas 14 pool opening with no drone losses. My Terran opponent switched to Blue Flame Hellion harass against me but I had scouted it early and had Spines in my natural and one in my mineral line in my main (I watched MLG) and enough Roaches that it wasn't a problem. This carried on for 3 more BFH pushes and I lose about 5 drones in total for a good number of Hellions and since I'd pumped out more Roaches than I wanted to by that point I decided to use them to poke at his front. I get there just in time to see Bunkers going up to defend the natural and easily force the SCV t ransfer going on back to the main and the Orbital Command I spot doesn't even land. Pushing up the ramp I'm met with siege tank fire so I destroy the rocks at his natural for another attack route and quick retreat if needed and I'm containing the Terran on one base and about to set up my 3rd.
This game literally couldn't be going better for me at this point, but little did I know I was about a minute from GG'ing. I have a strong contain he can't contest, I'm at lair tech, I'm sending a drone to take my 3rd and I'm droning fairly hard. Literally all I need to do is tech up a bit, mass and win.
But then I see 3 dots on the minimap passing by an Overlord. I don't click fast enough to see the units but I'm immediately sure they're Banshee's, although I pumpc a batch of roaches in to my main just in case it's a drop, but no. 3 Banshee's immediately cloak and the realisation it'd been a good 5 minutes since I last scouted his main hits me like a truck. I have no detection, I have 3 Queens with maybe 1 transfuse total and no evolution chamber or Overseer. And I GG out.
Before the score screen came up I was already confused as to how I arrived there. I could morph an Overseer at will, I could pump 2 more Queens easily, I could take at least 1 maybe 2 Banshee's out, he's on one base, I'm about to be on 3. I need an evolution chamber anyway and when it come's down to it, I can produce drones faster than he can kill them if needed! Why the hell did I just leave the game???
In the heat of the moment I looked at the situation and realised I'd failed in scouting and was going to take some losses and felt so hit by that I quit a game I was ahead in. I kinda understand IdrA a little better (although admitedly his quits tend to be based on actual knowledge of the game where-as mine was a stupid emotional hit with no thought at all).
Fortunately the next game was an awesome ZvZ where I won with some of my best harassment and drop play to date with a 6 base to 4 base game (I was the 4 though) that was genuinely fun. But yeah, 24 hours on and still kicking myself about that first GG.
Watched the EU Blizzard Invitational over the past few days and first I have to say, feel so sorry for the WoW players waiting for their streamed content on Saturday, that must have been hell to wait 8 hours for terrible games of that low quality production value. To the SC2 side of things though they were really fun, and whilst I don't put any stock in dream predictions...

...I did dream the night before (and posted as such in the LR thread) that Ret would win and he did and it was so awesome. Ret, if you ever see this please never stop being so awesome. I should add, I know he'll never read that but this is my blog so I'm allowed to pretend here because I can.
5 Hatch on Tal'Darim Altar with 70 drones at the 8 minute mark, even with the unfortunate result of that game was truely inspiring. Much love for Ret!
Finally, I'm hoping to get to Platnum this season so I guess I'm just putting this here to maybe look back on in future. Oh and i heard Total Biscuit is really nice IRL and I so want to meet him, so I guess I need to at least get to Platnum to start on the road to attending LANs where I might meet him, although I have to admit I'm really nervous about the idea of attending a LAN at all in any capacity so I could probably get to rank 1 GM* and still not meet anyone, lol.
*Hypothetically speaking for use in that example. I'm not actually likley to reach even Masters any time soon.
Well, I've run out of pointless stuff to ramble on about so good night TL net!
