Apologies to any and all of you who work at subway.

I went to subway for lunch today and it wasn't really busy so I thought "hey lets try something new today". So I go up to the person who works there and I'm like "Hey bro I'm feeling adventurous today, are there anythings that don't get tried much on the menu?"

I swear to god this guy just looked at me for like 10 seconds then said "no."

So I ordered my sub and he toasts it (burns it the first time so i have to wait again for him to remake it) and we get to the vegetables. Now I don't know about you guys but I fucking hate lettuce from subway. Its like this weird slice shredded lettuce that always has crap from the other vegetables in it. So I'm like "no lettuce please".
This asshole looks straight at me then puts lettuce on my sub.

Anyways I know all people from subway aren't like this but this really pissed me off today, and I needed to do something to let the innocent people of the world know the horrors of the subway down by my house.

Couldn't you just walk away after he put the lettuce on the sandwich? Bad service doesn't deserve your patronage.

Probably baked.

Hell, if I worked at Subway I'd take a break to blaze whenever I could.

I'm been there before, so I know how you feel. A girl asked me if I wanted cucumbers on my sub, to which I replied "No, I don't like cucumbers." So then she proceeded to put cucumbers on my Sub, talk about how healthy they are, then smother them in Mayo. Yeah....

My brother got ecoli poisoning from a meatball sub at subway before. Some of the franchisees are just plain sketchy and badly managed.

The subway a block away from me has staff that have been instructed to put as little vegetables as possible on the subs, presumably to save costs. I go and have to ask 5 times for some of the vegetables for "more", "double that", "please for gods sake give me more veggies". I asked for lots olives on my sub and, no exaggerating, she put 5 olive slices on my footlong sub. I asked for more and she put 3 more. I asked for double and she put 3 more. "keep em coming". 3 more. At this point she started making faces at the other people in line as if I was being the most unreasonable customer she'd ever seen.

Yet...I still go back. Damn your delicious sandwiches!

I laughed, that's a funny story because I could see almost all of my female friends doing that exact same thing to you. She was probably just fem-trolling you.

Yea, I work minimum wage ( well, very close) and having a bad day doesn't give you a free pass to treat people like shit. It's usually the younger ones that act like that but unfortunately even the older ones can be pretty immature.

Ok wait. You said "no lettuce" and he looks right at you and puts lettuce on your sandwich. LOL

That sounds like fighting sandwiches to me (Just doesn't sound as good as fighting words...but this is subway)

So you took the sandwich anyway? Why didn't you just say "Hey mate, no lettuce please"?

I'm not speaking for the OP, but sometimes it's better to just take it and go. He already burned the sub once, he might just get pissed that he's making a sub for the THIRD time and might "accidentally" sneak in some special sauce

I think subways policy is "Lettuce? EVERYONE loves lettuce!" because I have never actually gotten a sub without lettuce. Even the breakfast subs, my friend in front of me orders and says no lettuce, she immediately puts lettuce on it. I'm next and before she even asks about vegetables she puts lettuce on it.

You mean you were too much of a pussy to confront the guy and get the sandwich you ordered and should of got in the first place; and instead came home to TL and made a thread about it.

Stand up for your sandwich rights!

If you don't want something, don't bring it up. They're working in a fast paced environment and if they hear anything with lettuce come out of your mouth, they're going to assume you want lettuce.

Same thing happened with me at chipotle, I said no tomatoes, and she put tomatoes on. Although I just got a new one

The last time I went to subway, they only had one guy working the entire sandwich line, and he was obviously baked. His eyes were bloodshot, and he was just having way too much fun making the sandwiches. I asked for sauce, he put it on, then he asked me if I wanted sauce. I just rolled with it and asked him to put on more sauce and laughed about it.

Definitely not a dick like OP experienced.

I've had a few order mixups at Subway, usually it's exactly what I ordered though.

I have a question though, should you put lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, etc, on the chicken breast sandwich? It's the mustard that gets me, never know if I should do it or not...

I agree. Calling someone you don't know "bro" is kind of cheesy. And then saying you're feeling adventurous before that just adds to the effect. In general, it sounds like you came off as some sort of flirty gay frat boy.

Once when I still ate at mcdonalds like 10 years ago I ordered 4 cheeseburgers at the drivethru and when I went to eat them, 3 of them were just buns with cheese slices. Only one had meat.

I haven't gone back. Fast food is nasty stuff.

LOL

This was fucking funny.

I had a guy make me a really lazy sandwich, he was tossing the vegetables on my sandwich.

He grabbed the mayo bottle, spirtzed some on and then it slips from his fingers and the entire bottle just lays on my sandwich.

Just laying there in its own mucus of a sauce.

He cleans the bottle and wraps my sandwich to go.

I left.

Reminds me of the time I saw a pizza hut delivery guy come out the store and fall over right onto the bag. He didn't even check the pizza just got on his bike and went off to deliver it.

You're right outside the store! Just get it re made and apologize for been late everyone makes mistakes everyone falls over some time. Don't just carry on like nothing has happened and deliver that slammed pizza because I guarantee that won't impress the customer.

Anyway that subway guy sounds like he won't be in the job very long. Just because your working minimum wage doesn't mean you shouldn't have pride in your work. My friend works at subway and he's got such a good attitude. He knows is not the best job in the world but with the right attitude you could end up going along the promotion chain and management experience is a very good first step into a better job in the current employment climate.

Every time I ask for more olives at this one subway, the servers give me a look. You have to go to the ones that are new and have lots of people going to them.

This. I've worked part-time at a sub shop called Planet Sub for about 2 years now. It's basically a slightly classier subway. By the time I get to the end of my shift, I'm tripping over words, repeating questions, just doing things blatantly incorrect. I can't even hold a conversation, I just repeat the same question prompts at the register every time... whether they are needed or not.

The fact is that I've probably helped at least 50 people before you if it's a night shift, 200 if it's a day shift. My brain is completely fried. I don't follow conversations -- I just pick out keywords and hope it's right.
Woah guys, this is where it gets tricky. Because right now we're behind in every conceivable aspect [...] The only thing we're not behind in is micro. Right? We got tons of that shit.

Dude that sucks! The subway on campus kind of sucks, and they overcharge (instead of a 5 dollar footlong, it's around 7 bucks....like us college kids have extra money to spend...), so I usually go a mile down the road to an awesome subway. The dudes working there are pretty cool, and I'm like you: I hate the frickin lettuce from subway...It's nasty.

Just buy Safeway lumberjack subs or make your own. Working at fast food chains has taught me how awful the food is that customers are given. Constantly being told to put less fries, sauce, meat, vegetables etc.

Gotta save them monies!

At least subway is better then quiznos is now...

I remember in high school when quiznos was first starting out they had these buy one get one free coupons. Me and my friend would buy a large beef brisket sub and they'd use the whole loaf of bread for a large, we'd split the cost so it was pretty much 4 dollars each for a giant sub and the meat was delicious.

Now they might as well just hit you over the head with a shovel when you walk in and take your money.

I went there full of memories and ordered a large even though its more expensive then it used to be. The person behind the counter got out a loaf of bread and cuts off like a third of it. I said "I ordered a large" and was told " this is large"

You know a franchise has become corrupt when they give you less, with worse ingredients and make it more expensive.

I hope you looked at him straight in the eye and said, "No, I said I don't want lettuce. Remake that."

I've worked in food services before and there's no excuse for that, no matter how little he's getting paid.

Food service needs more gentlemen like you sir

I feel like people get away with it / let people get away with it just because "it's a shit job"

No excuse. It's not a shit job if you aren't actually doing your job loooool

What? I'm seriously not trying to be mean, but you need to step your shit up. I was a server who dealt with just as many customers and with far more interaction, and while a shift could certainly be draining, you shouldn't be so mentally drained that you can't even concentrate enough to talk/listen and have a minor conversation. I hope you're exaggerating and this doesn't happen every shift like it sounds like, but if it is, you need some 5-hour energy or something .

I never get lettuce on my Subway subs either, but they instinctively take two huge handfuls and dangle the shredded shit above my sub and look at me for approval (or not) as if it was already 99.9% going to happen. It's just not going to happen. I don't get my subs toasted either, so when they immediately throw my subs into the oven (and I don't notice) and it comes out hard and crusty, it's their loss because we're starting all over again. And if they're assholes, then I'm going to try as hard as possible to match their attitude (and I'm generally a nice guy).

I'm just really not a fan of laziness or incompetence or "I just assumed you wanted X even though I've never met you before in my life". If you don't want to do your job right and cater to your customers, then you don't have to be working there. My jobs are a thousand times harder than yours, and I do mine properly, thank you very much.

Maybe my experiences are just different, but why did you even risk confusing the guy by saying 'no lettuce'? For me they've only put lettuce on when I asked for it, and they have never put it on when I didn't mention it at all.

I fuckin lol'd

I completely agree you needed to say something to at least get your sub remade.

the most adventurous sub at subway (and imo, the most disgusting) is the seafood sub. it's old disgusting crab, fish, and lobster mixed together with a ton of mayonaise.

There definitely not like that at every Subway, I dated a chick that worked at the local one for a couple years and even when she wasn't there and I ate they always did everything just right. Gotta admit though they don't exactly have grueling exams of brainpower or customer relations tests to get the jobs so you can't expect much going in. The lettuce part was funny though that was just a dick headed move by him lol.

What? Unless it's opposite day or you selectively hear every other word, you can't possibly get confused when you hear someone say "No lettuce". I have to say that every time I go to Subway because they always make a grab for the lettuce.

My advice? Take off your balling shades and slowly say "I said... no lettuce"

Then the subway explodes and rock music starts playing in the background as you walk away, back to the explosion.

I said no lettuce because he did that thing where he starts fondling the lettuce and I didn't want any. Also I had him take it off but no matter what theres always a trace of those disgusting little strips of lettuce.

Registered vegetable offenders can only get jobs at fast food chains nowadays. He's not moving up in the world, so he gets his jollies from acting like an asshole to his customers and playing with lettuce.

Lettuce fondling is one of the various techniques that they use to reduce the amount of lettuce in their hands. Creepy yes, but what can you do. Also, I would have sent it back a third time and then proceed to order a pizza from him.

Oftentimes when I go to subway they ask me what kind of cheese I want and I say "none" and then they put a random cheese on and I then have to ask them two more times to remove it unless my boyfriend is there and asks for my cheese or if it's someone I know working (most people I know know I hate cheese).

Are they actually supposed to remake it if they put something on they're not supposed to? No one has ever remade anything for me.

Also, the local subway's toaster is broken like, 30% of the time.

I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm naturally really quiet.

Haha, it's the same at my franchise but for tomatoes.

I slide to the vegetable area and he asks, "Lettuce tomato?" while reaching for both

"Just lettuce and - "

"Tomato?"

"No, just olives, onions - "

"No tomato?"

Sounds like the dude just hates you for some reason. Possibly for "Hey bro I'm feeling adventurous today, are there anythings that don't get tried much on the menu?". There are probably a few "wtf"s he's getting from that.

Most of these posts sum up why I don't eat at these kind of places anymore. Minimum wage is a poor excuse for these types of services. The ones that work well though deserve a better wage/job.

lesson here:
subway sucks ass. they are really stingy with the meat/topping, and the ingredients aren't even that great. maybe its just my specific subway that has really turned me off from them. stopped going there for a looooooooooooooooooooong time. better off taking your 5 bucks and going to a mom and pop italian deli and/or a vietnamese hoagie place
(and if neither are around you )

edit: thinking about, their sweet onion teriyaki is aite, but still

Personally, concerning cost, I can eat much cheaper at home than out at even the cheapest fast food joints, but as for eating out cheaper than Subway, I don't have any suggestions. I make an effort not to eat processed meats and Subway is the king of that. Almost everywhere has better, healthier alternatives, though. Even McDonald's, sadly. Processed meat is worse than red meat is on your body.

I see people from all demographics eating at Subway or any other fastfood. And as the other guy said, you can eat cheaper by cooking your own food. It's convenience and familiarity combined with the cost.

I had a similar experience.
I went to some fast food restaruant.
"No cheese on my burger."
They WRITE IT DOWN and then give me a cheeseburger. Twice in a row. And then I waited another 30 minutes for my burger.

Wow, I didn't realize so many people had such negative experiences with Subway, it's always been great for me, though the fact that I eat pretty much all the possible vegetables they have may have something to do with that. Most of the time, the people working there always confirm what I want to add and I always make eye contact and gesture while speaking clearly and there's rarely any miscommunication.

I don't understand what it is you guys face. I get like 15 olives on my sandwiches and around 10 pickles. Plus the food tastes good :D. But yeah.... never buy meat from any place that isn't your home. It will rarely be good unless its a special or you know the people that are making your food, and even then....

You guys should come to New Jersey . However, I do make my own sandwiches often just because it is a lot cheaper. (Seriously, what did you people do before subway? o.O)

during my time at my university, there was a subway with a very broken system:

I always order 6" tuna with double tuna, and I think they mark the fact that it's a double by folding a mark on the baking sheet, by the time it gets to the cashier after the veggies, the mark was barely noticeable, that or the cashier didn't give a fuck.

I think I've only paid for double once.

Subway used to be the only 24 hour place that didn't sell greasy food. Other than that reason particularly subway is of no particular importance.

However from age 16 to about 22ish after getting stoned subway was like a house of god. Lettuce transcends.

Sober meh. Also sober I'll just cook something at home at 3am.

God being sober is boring.

OP you should go for the Hypocrite, vegetarian sub with bacon. Remember to say that you've recently become a vegetarian and ask them "bacons not meat, right?". The looks I get when I do this are priceless.

The subway by my place is great, I always get so many veggies that they have a hard time closing my sub lol.

One thing I found out is that if you say 'All the veggies except X' you'll get a hell of a lot less veggies if you were to just list them one by one. So I always just go "lettuce" wait for them to put it on, "pickels" wait for them to put it on etc. by the end it really adds up lol. And if they try to skimp, I tell them to put more on until I'm happy with the amount, and the workers are always happy to stack my sandwhich.

Love subway, only problem I ever had was they put mayo instead of mustard on. I told the guy just to scrap it off best he can and it'd be cool, and he gladly did so (and replaced the cheese which held 95% of it anyways).

I love Subway, love the lettuce as well.

The only problem is when someone just doesnt care and instead of spreading out the meat they just drop all the meat at one end of the sub, i hate that. Other than that i love subway.

Quiznos is also really really good though, but not as widely available.

Yah I definitely prefer Quiznos over Subway. Especially here. Quiznos tends to have fresher food imo.

For me, Quiznos was really really good six, seven years ago, now it's just so so.

This is weird because the two Subways I frequent (the one where I live and where my family lives) have never done that to me. None of them ever assumed lettuce and that appears to be really common.

Maybe I'm just lucky?

I love it too. It still doesn't make this guy's behaviour towards the customers any more acceptable.

One of the guys who works at my Subway put cucumbers on my sub when I asked for pickles. I said no, I want pickles. He said "You know they're the same thing right?"

o.O

He's.... kinda right.

They have completely different tastes, which is what matters on a sub that I'm gonna eat.

I would have opened the sub and chucked it in his face and all over his work area. When someone goes out of their way to be an asshole they deserve to get treated like an asshole.

Umm, just ask to speak to his manager, then tell the manager what happened.

(might be a good idea to make sure the guy did it on purpose first though. you do this by saying "no I didn't want lettuce" and then gauging his reaction.)

I don't get Subway either. I'll go to one, and order a 12in and pay like 6$~ for it. I'll go to a different one and order the exact same thing and pay, and I kid you not, 9$ for it. F that...

Besides, I can make a bomb-ass sandwich 10 times better for half the cost of their footlong...

I love subway! But so far I've only tried like literally one combination of vegetables which is lettuce, onions and chipotle sauce. Don't plan on changing it anytime soon
