Hello!
Some of you might not be aware that there are cheaters who use rigged maps on iCCup to gain an unfair advantage. You can find a few on a daily basis, so I decided to help people understand how to spot when you're being cheated and how to fight against it.
1. Preparation Delete all the files in your BW download folder (or copy them elsewhere). Copy all the iCCup maps (melee & obs) to the download folder.
2. Identification Join a game. See if the iCCup official map is being downloaded despite that you already have it in the download folder. If it is, it means that's a rigged map.
Now, you can choose one of these two options, but I urge you to choose the second one so we can make a more safe and fair environment:
3a. Ignore it Leave before the map is downloaded. Don't let it download because then the next time you join you won't be able to see if it's a rigged map. If you accidentally downloaded it, follow step 3b. without reporting.
3b. Report it- Let it download, and start the game. Then once you're in the game (you see the units), leave after a few seconds and save the replay.
- Find the fake map in the download folder. You can do this by sorting by "date modified" or just plain old seek-and-find (they usually have a bit different name than official maps).
- Upload the map somewhere (YouSendIt, RapidShare, [url blocked], ...) and replay of the game to RepDepot.
- PM iCCup.Paladin on iCCup with the cheater user name and provide the link to both the map and replay (this is just for now, as they are changing the report sub-forum).
- Delete the rigged map from the downloads folder so you can spot it if it ever happens again.
I also suggest checking the download folder or cleaning it up regularly as a precaution.
Enjoy playing safely now!

:O I'm sure it happened to me multiple times but I didn't really bothered to why I was redownloading the map.
How do they rig it? They just modify the map to add more mineral patches or something else?

in BW. You can edit the stats. So for example. you can give marines 100 attack and 99 armour. in essence cheating the game and winning by editing a map.
though if you ever lose to that and notice that something is not right. You can always report to admin team and they will most likely ban said cheater.

Can be rigged to get more money, to have cheaper units, modify unit stats, unit build time and so on. The possibilites are endless.
Also hi kvir :D

Oh wow ok I knew you could do that in the editor but I never thought someone actually did that with a map. Thanks.

but that only works in UMS anyhow I don't like playing on rigged maps >.>

Yeah exactly, it's not supposed to work in "1 on 1" mode. So I guess all this is about UMS so it's not about the ladder? It's still very bad and I'll be sure to report them but if it doesn't interfere with the ladder, it's not as bad as I thought.

this should probably be in BW general ^^. Great thread.

I played on a version of FS where there were neutral BC heros. Too bad I 5 facted lawl. But I played on a desti where unsieged tanks do 0 dmg and sieged tanks had reduced range, like usually they go from edge of screen to other side but this wouldn't even go mid to edge.
Sadly I do not have either T-T

I don't know if iCCup really cares about people abusing UMS games which don't count on the ladder.... they have their hands full already.

Yea, I think you can't change unit stats etc. on One on One. But even if it doesn't work, he can increase the minerals per patch, stack them, etc. So One on One is affected too.
They usually make some adjustments to just one base, then leave the game if they didn't get that position.
Also, if you're playing a CW on iCCup and you have observers in the game, you use UMS. So that's another way to cheat, as then build speed and cost are affected if he used the rigged map.

Hahaha yea I remember that. :D
The only problem is that the smart abusers rig it subtly, so it's hard to notice.

Okay thanks quirinus, that's exactly what I thought at first. The only way to really rig it (for one on one) is to modify what's in the map and not the stats or buildtime (which only works in ums).
|
I once beat a guy on one of these rigged maps, how terrible do you have to be to let that happen? lol
|
Thanks for the information. Although can't maps change sometimes when the mappack updates without changing name, which would lead to downloading older, yet legit maps?
|
This happened to me before on fs. They would always get bot right, and opp always top left, and they had minerals patch and gas like it was FMP. lol! xD

Or option 3c. 4-Pool them. Snap the hacker in its bud, before his bonuses kick in. That way everyone wins: the hacker gets punished for trying to lame the tournament, and the player wins for playing well

I feel like this happens every time I join a game on iCCup though, even though I have the latest maps downloaded. Is it possible there is another explanation? I mean, unless I'm just that good. It seems like it would be a huge pain to have to leave half your games.

If the name of the file is different you have to DL it again. So when people put spaces in front of Python (or any map for that matter) so it appears first in the list you are gonna have to wait for the DL. At least, I think that's how it works. It's not like every time you DL a map you are playing against a cheater...
