So out of curiosity TL how do you stay motivated in your adventures?
How do you create that fire in yourself to stick to w.e it is you choose to chase despite the blizzard of clusterfuck full of the obstacles and danger that lies around you?

What do you call upon for that courage?
What do you turn to know that what you are doing is not ignorant and stupid but instead a beautiful calculated risk despite seeing what you must endure?
How do you know it is all worth it?
What is in your mind to keep you cool when you have to go through that tormenting fire to reach that goal that is on the other side?

How do you do it and what is it? What can you state here that, in hopes, maybe someone else can take to heart and create their own hope and motivation? Can you help someone craft their own motivation or is it something one must create themselves?

+ Show Spoiler +
For me I need help staying motivated to stay in the gym. Just now I got back from the gym and realized how much pain and work it requires for me to do my routine. Way back in my high school years I was able to work out and ignore all the pain and was able to endure it all just fine. And by sticking to my regiment I was rewarded with health and a fit image.

Now, my fitness is gone and laziness was replaced. Before my motivation to stick to my schedule was from having a , large ignorant, crush on a girl. It was because of that I was able to ignore the pain and not notice the work it requires.

Now I have no motivation to stay in the gym and can't find that inner-strength that I had so many years ago. After the workout session, I realized that in order for me to stay I need to find a way to get past all the pain. I am not like a gym rat who seeks out the pain in the gym and looks forward to the "no pain no gain" philosophy. Instead the only real reason I choose to workout is to work on my physique image, and MAYBE get some stamina for some shit and giggles.

I need someone from this community to help me get through and help me stay motivated. I don't care if its a white lie, hell I encourage it, I just don't want to hear any negative thoughts. I know my goal of working out isn't a real good reason, but I just need someone help me to try to get through this rough patch/start.

I hope there is someone who can help me see that light and so I do not stray off, and maybe someone else can take some of the thoughts here and be motivated themselves.

I'm going to start working out soon. I need to drop some pounds so yeah.

Anyways. Always think of how you will feel/look in the end. usually works with me. Also since you're in a gym you should always see other people that are working out. If they can stick to their schedules, so can you.

You feel good when you're active and work out. Personal experience. Get out there and exercise

also you need targets and plans in order to be motivated to reach them.
"going to the gym" isnt much of a plan, but "hitting 60kg bench press within 3 weeks" is

you can set your goals according to what you're capable of achieving if you work at a level that is satisfying to you

Also, http://www.fitocracy.com/ is a great motivator for keeping track of results (it's like an RPG, you level up as you lift more)

Beethoven. That fucker went deaf and just said 'FUCK THIS, BEAST MODE' and became the most famous composer ever.

Whenever something bad happens or I have to do something I don't want to, I'm just remember that. Get arrogant. What, you don't want to go to the gym any more? Too hard? FUCK THAT, BEAST MODE. YOU GONNA GIVE UP THAT EASY? YOU'RE FUCKING BEETHOVEN.

You shouldn't go to the gym for girls you should go to the gym for yourself.

Actually both sexes have this problem, work out to look hot -> cancel membership when a steady relationship comes along.

You shouldn't work out your body for anyone but yourself, if self improvement isn't enough of a motivator then I don't know what else to say.

For me personally it's knowing that just going to the gym means I'm beating millions of people who just gave up right there, didn't even try, then after I do my warm up I get that rush again. "I've already lifted more from this warm up then most people will do in a month", and it just keeps going. Sounds vain as fuck but by the end of a work out all I can think of is all the people I've bested, all the people I've flat out beat and conquered.

Every step of the way you're surpassing millions of other people who instead of devoting even 30 minutes a day to fitness are doing much more important things like watching daytime television or arguing on the internet.

Just think about the people, real life or online who you've heard give excuses about fitness, saying things like "I'm going to start next week" or "I'll go to the gym tomorrow". You've already beat all of them.

But there's still a helluva lot of people who start and then quit, that's you right now, but if you can get back on that horse, then guess what? You've just beat them. Millions of people who work out for a week then give up, you can say you're better then them, you succeeded where they failed, it came down to a battle of willpower and sheer personal character and you had more.

But you're not there yet. So get the fuck off TL and get started buddy. We'll all be here when you get back but you'll be just a little bit stronger, both physically and mentally (which helps in Starcraft btw).

You need internal motivation if you want to get in shape, not external. It can be some burning desire to be healthy and fit. It can be the idea of challenging yourself to be stronger than ever before. Whatever you use, it has to be a powerful motivator. It has to be enough to push you through those points in your workouts where you want to quit, and you'll know if it is once you start training. For me it's been a burning desire to do parkour. I've always been a very shy and reclusive guy, but I figured "hey, if I can leap my way to the top of a building, I can do anything." It's more than just wanting to be fit, it's also how I'm becoming more confident with myself. Imo, a physical goal combined with a mental goal will be your best chance at sticking with something like fitness.

I'm having a kid in 3 months... if being a father doesn't motivate you, nothing will. Go out and produce a baby... you'll find yourself working 2 jobs and 70 hours a week and not even think twice about it.

for me, working out has been just a daily thing i MUST go through everyday. I run almost everyday, with a one day break every 2 weeks. If i don't get it in, i feel unaccomplished and a bum. You have no idea how hard it is for me to go out the doors, but once i get out there, its not so bad.

The trick is force yourself to step outside your door to do what you need, after you take that first step, you'll realize it's not so bad.

There's a thread on TL, where you can join the community fitocrcacy group and partake in community challenges. I've also heard its a really nice motivation tool, and I'm trying it out for myself.

Sometimes I just do stuff to do stuff. Sometimes I think of the me in the future and I think, "I will do something nice for that person."

I feel like I have seen this thread a million times. I will answer all of your questions (even the ones that are the same).

So out of curiosity TL how do you stay motivated in your adventures?
Adventures are fucking awesome, I don't see how I could not want to go on them. I think about all the fun that adventures are and I suddenly want to do it.

How do you create that fire in yourself to stick to w.e it is you choose to chase despite the blizzard of clusterfuck full of the obstacles and danger that lies around you?
I'm an amateur novelist. What that basically means is that I spend a shit load of time writing stuff that probably isn't even good or will ever get read. What gets me excited about writing is when I see other works of art (writing or otherwise) that have moved me. I decide "I want to try to make something that will move people too." Sometimes that has the opposite effect and I think "How can I ever do this?" but most of the time that is where my "fire" comes from.

What do you call upon for that courage?
As much of a pain in the butt lifting weights might be, writing can be equally mentally exhausting. Courage is definitely the wrong word in both cases. It's a routine and you have to be willing to do it every day or nothing will happen. Either it happens every day or it happens no days. Whatever you did the day before you will feel most like doing today. It's not courage that breaks that routine, it's saying 'fuck it, I'm just going to do this.'

What do you turn to know that what you are doing is not ignorant and stupid but instead a beautiful calculated risk despite seeing what you must endure?
This is overly romantic. Writing consumes a lot of time, and so does lifting weights, but what else are you doing with your time? At all times in our lives we make a choice about what to do at any given moment, but it doesn't really matter what you choose, as long as you are doing something. Don't think about it too much and just do what you want to do.

How do you know it is all worth it?
It's worth it to me. Whether other people think I've wasted my time is irrelevant. I grow as a person when I write, I learn a lot, and I feel like I've improved a skill which is useful for many applications in life.

What is in your mind to keep you cool when you have to go through that tormenting fire to reach that goal that is on the other side?
I don't think about the immensity of the task when it comes down to doing it. Sometimes I think about it when I am not in the middle of doing it, but when it comes down to business there is no room for other thoughts. All one's concentration must be on completing the task, and not the value of it or the difficulty of it.

How do you do it and what is it?
I turn on the laptop and I write words in an order which I find pleasing.

What can you state here that, in hopes, maybe someone else can take to heart and create their own hope and motivation?
Don't be fucking lazy. Do what you wanna do and stop complaining to others about how hard it is to do.

Can you help someone craft their own motivation or is it something one must create themselves?
Lasting motivation is internal, temporary motivation is external. Temporary motivation is okay for things that don't require long-term investment. It always helps to have support from people you care about, but if you care about what you do, you don't need support from anybody.

Here's an extra pro-tip: If you really want to do something, don't tell other people about it until you've done it. A great deal of people lose motivation from being congratulated before they've done anything.
