I try to make it out to every event that I can, and luckily the past 2 years I've lived in the very tight-knit DC/VA/MD community that is probably one of the best communities within Starcraft in terms of meeting up and hanging out and going to events together. I've had the privilege of going to MLG DC last year, that we all went to together to compete/spectate/do media for. I took a 13 hour bus ride up to Boston for PAX East, and a 7 hour drive to Columbus Ohio for MLG Columbus earlier this month.
If any of you are looking to go to events, take the time off, and don't think about it anymore, just do it. It is absolutely worth it and you will have the greatest time of your life. I've brought my Starcraft 2 poster from release day to every SC2 related event I've been to so far and gotten as many signatures of pros and big name community members on it as possible thus far. So if you guys need an incentive to go to events, you too can have a poster like this some day:

I've missed out on a few people obviously (always wanted to get Kiwikaki's specifically but I'm sure I'll have the chance to get his shortly at future events, sometimes its hard to track down some pros, or you don't want to bug them when they're busy or trying to get mentally ready for matches, so I try to just approach them whenever it is appropriate. It's also nice when I've known many of the players online, talked to them on skype or ventrilo or in game regularly. For that its usually simpler to get theirs.
I hope that even more people will show up to future events. I remember MLG DC with the couple hundred people we had there and it was already mind blowing but when a location like Columbus is set in the midwest and a lot more people are able to travel to the event without flights (airplanes are stupidly expensive) then we can see more crowds in the 5000+ range. Cheers to all, and I hope we all get the chance to meet at an event in the future.

I can feel the glow of awesomeness that is emanating from that poster. Each pen stroke contributing to an overall emission of awesome energy infused into the poster by the hands of some awesome people.
I also LOL at how EG.Idra's TLPD link is for his BW profile. Forever Terran, it seems.

How do you pronounce your ID? I always just say zee-slasher >_<
I love the poster though. :D I bought one of the event shirts and had a few guys sign it in Columbus, but I didn't really want to intrude a lot of the time like you said. I'm glad I got ROOT CatZ before he changed to coL though

I don't see how there are two s's in my name o.o Its just zuh-lasher.
CatZ just signed my poster as "Catz" which I guess is nice in that regards as well haha, although having people write down their team tag as well is cool.
