Hi! This is my first painting which was done voluntarily not as some homework, like I used to have back in lower secondary school.
El duende means goblin/elf in Spanish. In flamenco, it also means spirit or soul. For example you may listen to a musician and say "Wow he is so soulful!".
In Andalucia, they say "You have the goblin".
I was supposed to draw something for my sister but eventually, whilst painting while listening to the soundtrack of Vengo... I slowly felt like keeping it for myself
Please give my your honest opinions!
One problem though, is that the part where i signed my name was supposed to be pure white... I don't know how to fix that. I'm using a flash because I'm very shaky with my dslr...
And how do I post a smaller image from deviantArt without reuploading anything? Thanks. Will be back in a few hours.

Very nice. I envy people with this level of talent. Sorry if I don't have much more feedback, but I'm not too knowledgeable about art.

The coolest about art is how it can relate to the individual viewing it. For example, when I view this, I can see a certain sadness to it. Yes, the colors in the middle create a heat and they contrast with the cold, blue background, but there's another glaze over the flame that makes it all look like a fire encased in ice. A flame that can't escape, and potential that may never break out with its radiant color... This might not be your original intent, but that's what happened in the time between your first brush stroke and my first viewing. Neat, eh?

great painting! It really shows a lot of thought. My only suggestion would be to either make you sig more subtle, or write it on the back instead. It draws a lot of focus away from the painting itself.

I think the painting would really benefit by blending together more. Abstract art is really fickle because it's the little things that turn a good abstract painting into a poor one. I think the very distinguishable and hard-line brush strokes look amateurish, which is acceptable because you're an amateur I am assuming. A really good first effort, and I like the overall idea and colours. Keep at it!

As an artist myself, I have some advice that most new artists should learn quickly. There is no correct way to do "art." If you are preparing something for a specific reason, then yes, there are probably constraints, but for personal art, just do what you like ^^. Don't be offended by criticism of your personal art as long as you are happy with it.
And yes, subjective opinions apply to everything in life but I feel like many artists seem to forget about them.
That being said, keep up the good work and I hope you'll enjoy doing more

Is that Sephiroth in the center? But seriously, nice job it has a nice feel to it.

I like it. It seems like fire being consumed by a blizzard to me. What's your dA account? I'll add you to my watch :-) Also I suggest you do follow Backpack's suggestion, it's the best advice anyone can give yu IMO.

Looks like a Dark Archon to me. I don't know much about painting, so I can't really tell much about it except that I like it.

Thanks a lot! I'm JieXian on DA.
I've had a lot of problems with my sig and I've redone it 3 times. I added more white on top to be able to write a new sig that doesn't look like a child's writing... Yes you're right I really need to think of a way to write my sig better because I used a chinese brush to do everything and it's really hard to sign with it... I tried a pen but that looked ugly. Anyone has any suggestions on signing?
Salv, thanks for the advice. It's these kinds of opinions that help me improve a lot too besides encouragements! Backpack, I'm not offended at all as criticisms are important to learn, especially ones that I can understand.
My original intent was to draw flames and add a guitar in the middle - since I've spent years playing it and I really like flamenco. I can really feel the energy and raw soul in the flamenco music. And yes this was not at all my original intent :D
Yes of course I'm an amateur, never had art education except when I was 10.

If Sephiroth or a Dark Archon comes into your mind then I've achieved my goals :D NukeTheStars I like your interpretation :D

Abstract art requires no knowledge of any of the traditional aspects of art, such as perspective, dimension, recognizable images, etc. So, yes, abstract art is extremely easy to make. Here are some fool-proof steps to creating your own fabulous piece of beauty!
Step One: Paint the canvas your favorite color.
Step Two: And some splashes of your least favorite color.
Step Three: Frame and sell on eBay.
Your favorite color represents your life. The little splotches of your least favorite color represent all of the crap you have to take, but the background is the foundation that reminds you life goes on. There, you just created something, analyzed it like some Harvard professor, and made a few bucks while you were at it!

I HAVE THE GOBLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not exactly my cup of tea, but I can appreciate most art to a degree no matter what it is. It takes a lot of work and passion to create something you're proud enough of to show off to the world.
Only thing I may critique is that its pretty distracting to paint a corner white for your signature. Most artists, I believe, either sign a contrasting color to somewhere previously painted or have it labeled elsewhere. For elementary school its one thing, because teachers ask you to label everything, but for expressing yourself, its a bit of a distraction.

Actually I didn't start out with a white spot but I signed really badly.. So I had to cover it up and re sign a few times and I agree it doesn't look good. I've to really practice signing nicely and doing it small first.
I'm also considering adding more stuff to blend it into the picture and make another more subtle singature after my finals. No, in fact I think I must and will fix that part.
TadH: I already stated my intent, it's not that someone randomly anaylsed it. Btw the goblin is supposed to be the yellow patch in the middle.
Thanks for the feedback everyone!
