So I was playing some of the SC2BW war maps with my friends and the more I think about it I think my love of BW is holding me back in accepting SC2 as a worthy successor. Every time I see games and play them I just feel that broodwar has the edge; it's units are cooler, the 'best' way to play was cooler, the strategies were cooler. Every time I see stalkers with blink I just think how much better dragoons were and blizzard went and turned them into immortals, (now that I think about it immortals aren't robots so why are they built at the robotics facilaty?), I see marauders and just think they're silly. Hellions aren't nearly as cool as vultures. I don't feel that the 'abilities' have the same flavour as units in BW, concussive shells, blink, corruption etc. I feel it's important to note I'm not demanding change in SC2 just to accomodate someone like me clinging to childhood memories, if in the end SC2 just doesn't live up to BW I'll probably just forget about it, sad as that may be, and find another game I can enjoy without judging (part of the reason I don't want to play supreme commander 1 as I've only played 2 and don't want to have the games compete) Some of the additions are good, but I don't understand the need to have removed or replaced the old units, like the guardian was fine and I don't think there was any reason to have a broodlord other than to push the units into a new level of 'clever' design

i think BW is better than SC2 but nostalgia has nothing to do with it. I just think it's a better game.

Yeah I pretty much agree with this, there's a slight element of nostalgia perhaps since I first played the game when I was 12 but at the same time I genuinely feel that BW is superior to SC2 in pretty much every aspect.

I don't see the problem. If you like BW more in every aspect, why does SC2 bother you at all? As long as you're not a pro player who wants to make money out of playing in the west, why not just play Brood War? But if it's just nostalgia than yea, that can definitely diminish your enjoyment of SC2, that's just something you have to accept. Stuff moves on, can't change that

Thats questionable. If by better graphics you mean more colors and shiny things, then yes.
If you mean the units design, then no. BW units look much more mature/serious/dark/real than SC2 ones that look like little toys.

It's really just cause BW is better than SC2. And I love both of them.

If by better graphics you mean any kind of accepted standard in judging video game graphics, SC2 has hugely better graphics than BW, it doesn't matter which ones you like better.

That's obviously not what he meant. There's no such thing as objectively good or bad graphics. It depends on the person, and this one obviously prefers BWs.

It's hard not to compare them considering how related they are franchise-wise, genre-wise, and ostensibly game design-wise. However if you understand how superior BW is you really need to approach SC2 with a different mindset entirely otherwise it likely won't satisfy you. As long as you keep a lower expectation set for SC2, you should be fine.

well, i kind of agree, accept for one thing
the dragoon
i hated the dragoon. That dam unit had the stupidest ai, not mention i think it sounded stupid. In my eyes the stalker >>>> dragoon. Not to mention i love blink/blink micro!
but in general i agree ^^

If you think Brood War is the superior game in every aspect, why would you waste your time playing SC2?

Yep, BW is better than SC2 as of now. we shall see what happens after the Legacy of the Void. I do agree with you though that I liked the gameplay of BW so much better. I loved being extra clutch and throwing down a few Dark Swarms over my base and then rushing in with lings and lurkers. I loved doing a clutch recall in my enemy's base or going mass mech and rolling anything.

BW has better aesthetics though, and when gamers talk about good, or beautiful "Graphics" they usually mean aesthetics.
High resolution textures and poly count a beautiful game does not make.

That's 100% personal preference though. Saying that the only thing SC2 has over BW in terms of grapics is "colors and shiny things" is still wrong.

This is not a problem at all. Stick to BW, the game you enjoy the most. And the other 95% will enjoy SC2 as a worthy successor. Win Win.
