I used to be of the opinion that the best setup for casting SC2 is 1 analytical + 1 playbyplay. But now I'm not so sure. After watching the NASL and IPL, I see professional players make *so many* bad predictions/information with their off-races. I mean I understand that every caster is going to make mistakes. But I think professional players are more prone to make those kinds of mistakes because their knowledge is so specialized. For example, I think Gretorp is a great analytical caster for Terran; but when it comes to Zerg/Protoss I honestly feel like shoutcasters provide better analysis because they have a more well-rounded background with all 3 races (Not to hate on Gretorp at all here, just giving an example)
I'm slowly coming to the opinion that neither the solo caster nor dual caster models are optimal. What if we move to a three caster model, where there's one specialist for each race? I believe that if shoutcasters focus on casting just one race they could quickly get to the point where they can provide high level analysis for that race while providing emotion for the other two. It would also be easier for casters to prepare for the players they cast. Yes that means there would be only one specialist in mirror matchups, but lets be honest, mirror matchups need more emotion than non mirrors anyway.
Why do you think the dual caster setup the standard? What is your favorite casting format?
