So after not eating nice food for ages and saving for ages I received my delivery of a nice new mobo,chip,ram.

i7-2600K
Asus P8P67
4GB(2x2GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600

Then I realise, my PSU is only 400W (barely able to run it with a discrete g-card I already have(nVidia 8800GTX) and no chance i'd be able to over-clock it with that CPU.

Not to mention, my dvd-drive is IDE and there are no IDE slots on this board =)

Happy ending to the story is my Cousin has a spare 500W PSU and sata dvd-drive so I'll be able to use that but not until tomorrow

My PC did play me through all of Portal 2 with high graphics so I was happy it did well for that. Will relegate my current pc parts into an Alienware style case and give it to my mum for use on the web and as an extra PC.

Be careful with the PSU. 500W doesn't mean anything if it is a shitty brand.
A good 400W is better than a cheap 500W.

Generally, but it's pretty unlikely that the cheap PSU will bring other components down with it if it fails. If it does die it will probably just be bricked. Give it a shot if its free for sure.

(I accept no liability if it does indeed fry your mobo)

Essentially, if the PSU is of a bad name there's a small chance it could take other parts with it should it fail. Be careful with it unless it's a reputable brand like corsair.

Yeh, i'm pretty sure its a branded PSU. I'll be hunting on ebay over the next month's to find a higher watt branded PSU too.

highly recommended, stable as a rock for nearly 2 years now. Powering i7 920, 2TB Samsungs, GTX 460. can overclock easily as well

Cousin ending up bailing this week, but current PSU seems to be working but i'm not going to overclock it for now just to be on the safe side.

Should be able to stream and stuff with this new CPU up and running :D

Only thing thats odd is that the 1600 DDR only runs at 1333 if I leave all the settings on Auto, I might look into that later.
