Where do I start...yeah!

So today I decidad to play more games than my usual 4 or 3 daily games, since I had full free day to enjoy some SC action. I woke up at 8:00Am and played alittle until 9:00Am, took a break and played again at 12:00 and so on. In total I did around 18 games today (It isn't a lot mind you, but for me this is an acheivement already.)

Anyways, my frustrations come from one thing...or two actually

1) Being stuck in Platinum since SEPTEMBER
2) I cannot win ZvZ's and ZvP's

Let's start with 1) shall we?

I have the game since release, I was extremely motivated to get into diamond and I was very surprised to see that in so little time I could reach the platinum league. I thought to myself "I got this, if I continue like this I might get there in a month or two!". Months passed, I kept losing to stupid things, I raged and stopped playing for a while, then I restarted. Like this until December (I wasn't able to play for a month).
So I started again in January, I kept playing, and playing, and playing and always the same results, playing vs 2500 rated diamond players and never really advancing or feeling that I improved.

I then read that there was going to be a "ladder reset" wich made me really happy, I thought to myself "man, it is now or never (next season actually)". So I waited for the reset.

The day the reset ocurred I went motivated and wanting to finally get into Diamond...but...I got the thing I wanted the least: a ZvZ.

As the match started I was still very confident, I planned going for roach infestor (the build I usually go for on ZvZ) I go over to his base and what do I see?...sixpool, lings were on their way and my pool wasn't even done yet. I kind of expected it since people on this placement matches tend to all in like crazy, but it really hit me hard.

So the match ended and BAM, directly to the Platinum league again...wich brings me to:

2) since when there are SO MANY Z and P players on ladder? When the game came out I remember how the zerg population atleast in the lower leagues was very small, I mostly saw Terran players, who obviously played the race because it is the one they felt the more familiar with. But then what? I see infinity zergs and protoss, all over the place, normally whenever you play the same matchups for ages you end up learning from them, and becoming slowly better, but with this two I seem to be really stuck, especially vsZ (vsP I have a small idea of what I can't make it work).

Almost always whenever I'm laddering and I'm on a winning streak -wich is when I get to play vs many terrans in a row- I'm worried that my next opponent will be any of those 2 because I know that my chancec of winning are very slim.

Half of this stuff might not even make sense but I'm really angry right now and very frustrated aswell. this summer I won't be able to play Starcraft at all and I really would love to atleast make it to diamond before that (bonus pool skyrocketting to crazy amounts).

Have any of you guys felt this way? or went through something similar? -and If you did- how did you manage to overcome it?

Well, for one, many people cheese or rush in platinum and lesser tiers, so performing builds that destroy cheese is often crucial for becoming stable in your play, which often translates to SCOUT, SCOUT, AND SCOUT s'more!

Secondly, you're probably just stuck at a MMR/ELO where there are a lot of Z/P players losing, and the Terrans are the ones winning, so when you lose, you're vsing Z/P and when you keep winning you get bumped and play with the T's (This is just my guess based on what I know of the system) When I play League of Legends, you usually keep winning and then get shut down a bunch and youre back to square 1.

Usually, long winning or losing streaks will jump you around the system a bit, if you feel its too much being stuck in the spot you're in.

And lastly, mechanics, if you keep your larvae injects going, you can always be ready for a push/rush/cheese, float some minerals and don't produce drones when you feel something is awry.

Seriously, it feels like i AM YOU...

I _ALWAYS_ get ZvZ's whenever i ladder, i lose 95% of the ZvZ games and i never ever learn anything from them because the matchup is ass. It's no use trying to learn anything because the matchup is so insanely volatile.

I have been stuck in Platinum since the beta and i'm never gonna get promoted because even if i manage to go on a win streak, as soon as i run in to a zerg i'll lose and be forced to start playing vs gold players again, it's a neverending cycle. Even if i face a Silver zerg i might get raped straight up.

I seriously switched from 1v1 to playing nothing but 2v2's with a friend because 1v1's feels completely futile.

You're just getting matched against a lot of Z and P. I once had literally 15 straight games against Zerg, then 1 protoss, then about 4 more Zergs. It just happens. The match making doesn't care about the distribution of races you play.

Yeah I guess so, but I mean, I have been playing vsZ and P since november, nonstop. It gets frustrating and boring after a while :/. I'm not sure if it has to do with the race distribution of every league aswell (having more Z's and P's on plat/gold than on any other league)

I was on the low-mid Diamond tier for a long while. When season 1 ended I was around 3200 Diamond playing a mix of players from high Platinum (usually top 5) to high Diamond (high as in a few hundred points ahead of me).

Here's the funny thing: I lost more to Platinum players than Diamonds. Between weird early-game all-ins and funky timing attacks I couldn't seem to deal with them for some reason. Then I would play a 3600 Diamond P and roll him in a macro game.

It took some time and a much heavier focus on scouting thoroughly to see what's coming but I seem to be doing much better vs. everyone now because of it.

If you have specific race issues and want to improve, try getting some practice partners around your skill or higher that play those races. Play a few games and take a serious look at the replays. At every X intervals check relative populations (workers and armies, not just overall population). Keep an eye on queen energy/chrono/orbital energy and make sure you are on top of it. It's amazing how being more on top of these things can have a hand in mid/late game compositions.

As far as dealing with straight up cheese, the best thing to remember is to stay calm. Position your buildings to limit the surface area incoming units can attack from and add a couple seconds delay.

Also, around the 1.2 patch I noticed a serious drop in Terran overall in my own games. This is awesome for me because I don't have to do as many mirror matches. Of course the statistics won't show that until people who changed races play as many games with their new race as their old race. I'd be willing to wager it will work itself out in a slower, long-term decrease in Terran representation that hasn't been noticed yet because most played race hasn't caught up to "currently played race".

I've actually noticed fewer terran players too. I might switch to terran as a result, but lately it's all pvp (boring as heck) and pvz (feels like a diceroll sometimes). I love playing tvp but not so much tvz or tvt though.

Probably part of the reason is the maps you veto. Zergs and protosses like big maps while terrans like small ones

I've been stuck in plat for over 500 matches, I fell you. It's mainly my mechanics though, I just keep missin inject over and over and once I get harrassed I defend it and my money is over 1k...

Actually , I just read the topic and assumed this to be about MLG , I am surprised there are so few MLG rageposts ...
Edit: I haven't played many matches at all in sc2 (14 last season) and now I played one game after ladder reset and got diamond, feels good man (probably won't play another game ever so I can brag about my diamondness)

I don't think it's the map i have been playing like 20+ games since the reset and i have only played versus Terran exactly 3 time, where the hell are all the Terran?

Thanks for the responses guys.

I've been thinking about all of this and the problem MIGHT be my mechanics, the thing is that I have no idea of what I do wrong, sometimes I have the feeling that I'm gonna lose just by watching his army.

I will go for another 'big' ladder session today, hopefully I will be able to get atleast to top 8 in my division. I'll also upload the replays here if somebody's interested in helping out

I'd be more than happy to take a look.

Here is a good way to analyze replays:
1) Load rep.

2) Pause the replay every so often and especially before big engagements, harass and other major events (you expand, enemy expands, etc.). Write down the time, food count, worker count, upgrades and any other useful information. Does he have way more workers? Way more army? Better upgrades? Better map control?

3) Continue this process, being sure to also recount before and after major engagements.

Doing this through a few different replays will tell you where you are losing games most often and should also give you an idea of the areas where you need to focus. If you're constantly going into battles ahead in supply and coming out behind, check the army composition. Does your army counter his suitably enough so the battle should have turned differently? If so, you have micro issues in battle. If not you should try to focus on being more aware of your enemy's composition to make necessary adjustments in your build.
