so i just looked over my text i posted on the other page, which my teacher returned today with her notes. i have made corrections as good as i know, and i will now post what i'v got for whoever wants to scim it through. if you do read it please post your comments. ...dont worry about the content as im a shit writer =) i'll make the sentences im especially unsure about in bold. also, dont read it if you plan on seeing the film. here goes " Eine Zusammenfassung von dem Film ”Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei” Regie: Hans Weingartner (2004) Der Film handelt von drei jugendlichen Berlinen, Jule (Julia Jentsch), Jan (Daniel Brühl) und Peter (Stipe Etceg). Jule hat Geldprobleme. Sie ist mit einem sehr reichen Mann auf der Autobahn kollidiert und sie hatte keine Versicherung. Deshalb schuldet sie ihm einhunderttausend Euro. Als Jule von ihrer Wohnung geworfen würde, weil sie keine Geld hatte, fährt sie zu Peter, ihrem Freund und wohnt mit ihm und Jan. Jule ist links, aber Peter und Jan sind linksradikalen Anti-Kapitalisten. Als Peter in Barcelona im Urlaub ist, hilft Jan Jule ihre Wohnung aufzuräumen. Sie erzählt ihm über ihre Geldschuld und als sie aufräumen, werden sie Freunde. Als Jule ihre Arbeit verliert, beruhigt Jan sie und er erzählt ihr was er und Peter in den Nächten machen. Sie brechen in Luxusvillen ein, verrücken die Möbel und dann lassen sie einen Zettel, wo sie ”Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei” geschrieben haben. Jule und Jan brechen zum Haus des Mannes, den sie Geld schuldet, ein. Sie küssen sich unter dem Adrenalineinfluss in einem Pool. Am nächsten Tag erzählt Jule Jan, dass sie ihr Handy im Haus verloren hat. Als sie zum zweiten Mal im Haus einbrechen, kommt Hardenberg, der Besitzer des Hauses. Jan schlägt ihn nieder. Sie rufen Peter an und bringen Hardenberg zu einem Häuschen der Onkel Jules im Gebirge. Mit der Zeit lernen sie Hardenberg kennen und er war auch ein Sozialist in seiner Jugend, aber er hatte sein Ideal vergessen, wenn er mehr Geld verdiente. Das Stockholm-Syndrom ist immer da. Die drei Jugendlichen denken, dass das was sie getan haben falsch ist, und entschließen sich Hardenberg zurück nach seinem Haus zu bringen." | ||

I'd write something like "Mit der Zeit lernen sie Hardenbern, auch er war in seiner Jugend ein Sozialist." *3 - I know what the Stockholm-Syndrome is, but that sentence is pretty random. It would be in English as well: "The Stockholm-Syndrome is always there."? | ||

Where does the adverb usually go in subordinate clauses? For example, "Ich war überrascht, dass ich gut Deutsch lesen konnte." Is it correct to place the adverb there? Also, I'm aware of the usual adverb placement, which depends on its type. That is, adverb of time, casual adverb, modal adverb and local adverb, in that order. Do these customs also hold for subordinate clauses? | ||

Ich fahre morgen wegen des schlechten Wetters mit dem Auto in die Stadt. There you have all four types of adverbs in one sentence: time, casual, modal and local. However, I read that although the sentence is grammatically correct, it doesn't have a good style; people would rather write it as: Wegen des schlechten Wetters fahre ich morgen mit dem Auto in die Stadt. There are other (correct) ways of expressing that, too. | ||

what are the differences between Schriftsteller, Verfasser and Autor? they all basically mean writer but they have different meanings no? if anyone knows thatd be good hehe =) | ||

It has subtile tone of "I'm a serious artist". Verfasser hints that one is the author of anything that actually was written down, mostly indicating it is somehow related to actual copy right; can be an essay, a novel, a scientific research paper etc. It hints that the writer has some sort of deeper message. Like you would say Marx war der Verfasser des kommunistischen Manifests (communist manifesto?); it also has a politic undertone "Die Verfassung" <-> "Constitution". Also not what you would answer when you're asked "What's your job", but a good synonym if you want to write a short introduction about someone in a more formal conext. Autor is the thing that's imo closest to writer (depends on your context though). It's sometimes used for other media as well, mostly video/film. Don't get me wrong all mean the same, but it highly depends on the context. You can use to avoid repetitions without hurting poor German language too much  | ||

Autor is best used for people who write scientific papers. But as you correctly said all 3 of them can be used in the same context only Schriftsteller should NEVER be used to describe someone who wrote an article or a scientific paper because this can be seen as denouncing the authors work as a piece of "fantasy" and not actual science | ||

It is not a matter of liking her or not but about respect towards her position. If she did not request you to say "du" always use "sie" | ||

if you want to be formal with your teacher, i would suggest you something like the following: "Hallo Christine (or more formal: Sehr geehrte Fr. [add her last name]) ich frage mich, ob ich die Prüfung bestanden habe. Jemand aus (I'm not entirely sure, but this seems more naturally than "in") der Gruppe hat gesagt, dass man Ihnen eine E-Mail schreiben("emailen" is not really a word in german) und fragen kann. ob ich die Prüfung bestanden habe (ich sollte das Subjekt sein, nicht die Prüfung) "dass man dir emailen können" können ist Infinitiv, du brauchst Konjunktiv (ich überlasse es dir, herauszufinden wie es richtig lauten müsste  Siezen oder nicht: Da du deine Lehrerin mit ihrem Vornamen ansprichst, eher Duzen als Siezen. Die Kombination aus Vorname + Siezen oder Nachname (Herr .../Frau ...) + Duzen ist eigentlich unüblich. | ||
