One just has to view your post history to see all the anti sc2 hate anyway ;p. there has been "starting to play BW" threads for years and years, guess since you are new around here you wouldn't know that though ^^; What do you mean I am new here? You came here 2 months ago I have been here since August(which hasn't been too long but still longer than you). I mean the starcraft scene obviously, you think when someone registers is the first moment they followed progaming? i've been playing and following BW for years and years stay small Ok I am sorry. I am newer to the BW scene than you are.

Hmm try it ? If you don't like it stop and come back to bw or find another game. Seems pretty obvious no ?

Get a guest pass, see if you enjoy it. It should give you enough of an impression if its fun to play with friends or your source of ''socializing'' if you will.

A guest pass doesn't come with a free 500$ computer. On the other hand he can always try Sc2 at a cybercafé.

I often find it funny how people grind out the ladder trying to get better at this game, only caring about their record... I got good at this game just by having fun playing people I know.

My 2 cents: I'm C- Iccup, bought sc2 when it first came out and it went pretty well... then got pretty boring with the mirror matchups. (pvp & zvz) tvt is pretty fun though . Then went back to bw after about 3-4 months in and barely touch sc2 now.
If you have to upgrade your computer just to play sc2, i don't think it would be worth it. :x

C- is definitely going to make you masters. Which is just going to feel as unrewarding as before really imo. I mean sure it might be fun climbing to that point and smashing noobs for a while but long-term fun i don't know.

Interesting opinions, interesting opinions.
I am aware that trying it is the best option, but, as mentioned, it isn't exactly free to try out. Going to a friend's place to play doesn't really cut it as I've already played the game a good amount of times so I know how the game works etc..
I actually might not NEED to upgrade if it can run on a macbook 13.3 inch...anybody know if it can? I upgraded to 4 gigs for all my DJing stuff so it's a bit more beefier. I know you can customize hotkeys so the keyboard wouldn't really be an issue. So that might be a cheaper option....
And yeah I am not comparing sc2 to BW at all. I've played BW for years; I have no motivation to play the game anymore. Obviously I think BW is a better game in terms of depth and mechanics...but as a casual player now, it's a little too demanding. That's why SC2 is appealing. Also it's got a huge fanbase which has kinda blown me away as to how popular it's gotten.

It doesn't help that a couple of my friends play the game and talk about it. And when they do all I can say is, "Wow dude, I'd whoop you and I've never played the game before lol".
I too was C- iccup, probably could have gotten higher, but I would have to grind out more games and I never really had the dedication for it.
Haven't played in 2 years? Me too.
IDK man, it gets me excited and wanting to play SC2, but I think for now I'm going to try and concentrate on other hobbies, and save up some money. I'm thinking about checking out SC2 during the summer...
Yeah totally agree. I was same with iccup too! I never had the dedication to ladder, I totally could have gotten higher than C- in my prime. If you get the game let me know, we can play some games (assuming I end up getting it).

it's fun if you have people to play with, ladder is ok but the skill levels are really wide and most of the time you end up winning by just macro. If you plan to play it regularly for a few weeks I think 60$ would be worth it, however upgrading your pc is always good too even if you don't like SC2 tons of new games out there.

Since we are in a similar position, I can offer you my opinion and experience. Take it as you wish.
I am a BW player who plays BW as a hobby for years and it's just something I do without even thinking about it as a game anymore. But as you, I was also debating of trying out SC2 recently, but there was little to no chance I would give 60 or so bucks to just try out some game. That is until a week ago, when a friend gave me an account on which I can play.
I started playing some teamgames, because that's only thing I play in BW, and I honestly don't know what to tell you. Sometimes I get in a mood to play a game or two, but that mood is usually over by the time games are over. I can't offer you any constructive criticism of the game, because only thing I know how to do is to make Stalkers, AND blink them! (that is so fun, and works too!). But after I have my fair share of blinking, I usually go back to BW and play some BGH with my friends I know for years and we do our usual game/chatting sessions (it's like going out on a drink with your friends). So now, I have both BW and SC2 icon on my desktop and just click on which I feel like at the moment (hint: it's usually BW ^^).
So in the end, if you're not swimming in dough, I might put off spending 200+ bucks to try something you MIGHT have fun with and try some other, less expensive, hobbies. And if after some time you're still in search of a hobby and you saved some money, then sure why not, try out SC2 too.
