Idea for application I have

Based on the feedback I decided NOT to create this app.

So I've been bouncing around this idea for quite a bit and today I finally went ahead.

Basically, what this application will do, is it'll (hopefully) ease up zergs macro. This program will run on background and it'll detect pattern of keys, that cause inject larva in game (in my case - 55v,66v,77v and so on). If the pattern is correct, then timer will start (roughly the same amount of time it takes larva to pop) and after timer expires, little dot will be shown on the right of minimap, signaling that new larva inject will is needed.

This isn't a client modification, it's a simple program on background. I've send e-mail to blizzard, asking if it is OK to use this and depending on their statement and on results of this poll, I'll get to work.

I also have an idea about additional features... There is possibility for protoss and terran support (Chrono boost and MULE) and maybe user defined pattern...

The reason I'm including poll is, that if majority of the TL.net population reject this for their own reasons, I won't be working on that. I have some concerns how this could "break the game", making zergs way too strong because their macro is nearly perfect, but I want to hear people's opinion.

TL;DR: application that shows on screen when to inject, yay or nay?

You have a built in timer (which I still don't particularly agree with)... Just do the math.

Why not just go the extra step and have it press 55v click, 66v click, etc for you? I can't imagine why you would think this isn't a cheat just because it doesn't modify files.

Is blizzard not already putting something like this in patch 1.3?

Oh well, it seems it was a bad idea from the beginning.. That for the feedback guys, I won't be making that and will rather spend my effort on something else

It's an unfair advantage. I don't think you should do it, regardless of blizzard's position.

nvm you already realised.

Starcraft has never been the type of game that involved add-ons etc. It's a game where everyone has the same tools at their disposal and you have the timings in your brain. I think venturing away from that is a bad thing. Also, if pros start getting used to these types of add-ons then what will they do when they go to live tournaments and don't have access to them? It will be a source of nonstop debate and whining. Imagine statements like this: "this tournament allows us to use the add-on, why doesn't that one?!" and "Man, I would have done so much better if I was allowed to load the add-on". Also, because of this reason, pros would not use your add-on so that they can practice in conditions that are similar to the live tournies but guess what- the non-pros they would face on ladder don't really care about live tournies, they just care about winning and would load every app they could get their hands on and dominate ladder.

It's a bad idea for use in any actual tournament or in a real game.

This sort of thing might be slightly useful as a trainer to teach you macro habits. I suppose it would beat paying $150 per hour to have Idra yell 'nonono make another creep tumour' down Skype at you.

Glad to hear you're not moving forward with this project, as it is a downright cheat and should not be implemented by any player. It's bad enough that blizzard is adding the alerts in the 1.3 PTR patch, this taking it even further.

The new patch adds one of those alerts everyone ignores to the left side of the screen, not quite what he's doing.

I read the title and thought "Yoda?".

But on a serious note, when I introduced my brother to Starcraft, unlike me, he wasn't impressed with the insane macroing and microing abilities the pro gamers had, he actually went "why don't they just all write programs that optimize building production, macroing and decision making (speaking about highly developed algorithms) and then let their respective programs battle each other. That would surely have the more skilled player win the game, because he understood it and transposed his understanding in a pattern." I disagreed strongly, because in my eyes that would destroy the whole core what SC is about, the feeling of playing, the adrenaline, the mechanical skills, the sweating; overall, the sports aspect for which I love the game. But I admitted, he had a point. Reducing the attention span that is required to keep the little things straight (clicking every time for building a unit, clicking to move units to a location, and your spawn larvae mechanic) would leave more time for decisions, for refining timings, for taking everything into account; read: to turn it into a completely different game.

I don't think that Blizzard wanted to create that kind of game. Sure, some might argue and say that mechanically, SC2 is way easier than BW (control group size, grouping buildings, overall better AI, etc). But those little things that refine a player's play that could certainly be done by a computer make the game what it is, and give a player actual liberty in the game. He is part of the action and doesn't just lean back and watch his algorithms play for him.
I think the community feels the same. And I'm saying that all those "improvements" that make organizing (micro/macro) easier by leaving it up to a PC work against the actual concept, the idea behind SC. It's not a football manager, it's an adrenaline packed game where every little tiny thing is supposed to be done by the player to INVOLVE him. And don't get me wrong, a thing like OP suggested won't ruin the game by no means, but it is against the philosophy of Starcraft.

I hope you could follow me. If not, I'll rewrite it
Always smile~

The technology you use to implement something doesn't matter. If it gives an ingame advantage it's cheating, no matter how it works. And if it doesn't it's no cheat even if it patches the game executable.
