1500 Posts - 10 Months on TeamLiquid
Let me start off by saying, I hate these posts. 1000, 1500...good for you, but I really don't care. Threads like this don't start to get interesting until you hit 2000. The meager amount of replies these blogs produce show that I'm not alone in this mindset. And yet, it must be done.
I am no one special, not to the TeamLiquid community anyway. That said, I may be the only person with 1500 posts who's still stuck in Gold. A Masters player did tell me I would be in Diamond if I were more aggressive. But that's not my style. In the same manner, I won't beg you to read this post. I've tried to make it interesting, but I've been known to use sentences that are far too long. In any case, if you're not interested in my SC history, go ahead and skip down to my List of 15 Things.
Background:
The first time I visited TeamLiquid was roughly a year and ten months ago. Realizing that SC2 was going to be released the following year, I returned to the game I hadn't touched since third grade: Starcraft.
Nostalgia came rushing as I remembered the days I would wake up before my parents, just to sneak in a few games. Back then, the idea of sleeping after 10 pm hadn't even occurred to me.
Why do I have a feeling that posting childhood photos of myself is dangerous?
At 9 years old, however, I couldn't even beat the computer. This time, I wanted to play competitively. “Best zerg strategies,” I searched on Google. Again and again, I found myself directed to the narrow blue website I would later realize to be the heart of Starcraft in the west.
But that’s not what it looked like back then. Frankly, it looked terrible, unreliable. The forum seemed so basic and outdated. It was a cleanness I wouldn't come to respect until a year later. Playing BW lead to watching Hyung Joon Becomes a Programer, which in turn lead to watching the major Korean tournaments. I immersed myself in Starcraft.
Starcraft 2 and TeamLiquid:
Fast forward 12 months, and the Beta was rolling in full motion. Desperate to get my hands on a beta key, I tried everything. As it turned out, I got two keys, one of which I gave my cousin, so I would have a practice partner. I got one key by begging at the right time. The other I won through a T-shirt Contest on SC2Blog.com: To be honest, I was pretty proud of myself.
Yeah okay, so I know those aren't supposed to be immortals...
In the full swing of things now, I registered for TeamLiquid in April 2010. I don't remember what my first post was, but I bet it was something stupid. I didn't read the Ten Commandments; I didn't even know they existed. Nevertheless, I tried my best navigate the community without treading on too many toes. No more would I be just another semi-troll (I am Aroshtar).
I've had my share of closed threads and warnings. In fact, I'm also guilty of posting too many one-liners in order to increase my post count. During the first half of my senior year in High School, it was hard to stay consistent with quality posts. Any mods reading this can give me a temp ban if they see fit, but don't make it boring with a "by request" or "I have my reasons." In any case, this is something I'm definitely looking to amend now that I'm a second semester senior.
I do like to think that I've contributed to the community though. At the end of August, I started the first RISING Cup, aimed to give players Gold league-d and below a chance to compete in a tournament setting usually reserved for Diamond-level players. Of course, these GSB Cups are in abundance now, or so I hope, but I'd like to see any of them match my prize pool. A shoutout to Ipp from RageQuit.TV, who was nice enough to help out and cast my tournaments live for the players.
I don't think I've started any threads that turned out to be especially important, but it was funny to see my How to Hold Your Breath guide get completely laden down with health warnings. Good times.

I've definitely learned a lot on TeamLiquid. For starters, I am writing this blog when I really only have 1440 posts, as to avoid the "oh crap I accidentally left my 1500th post in the 'What Mouse Should I Buy?' thread" situation. It seems surreal that it was only a few months ago when the five ponies still galloped the banner in total 100% opacity.
Thank you TeamLiquid, for defining the past year of my life.
"List of 15 Things"
I need to apologize in advance by saying that I only made this list to justify making this post. Therefore, nothing here will change your life. Since I'm only going to post websites/internet knowledge, I can't recommend good books or products either. I hope that at least something here amuses you.
1. Get more room!
When replying to a post, there is an Expand button you can press... to expand the box you are typing in. I bet at least one person reading this didn't know that. Go ahead and test it out!
2. Video Game Music: http://vip.aersia.net/vip.swf
This is the playlist you'll want to visit to listen to all of your favorite video game music.
3. Star Wars Begins: I stole this from another thread, but I bet people will miss it. If you're a Star Wars fan, this is a fan-made documentary you cannot miss.
4. Search for Music by Singing: http://www.midomi.com/
All you have to do is sing into your mic, and the site will (most likely) tell you what song you are singing. It's very useful when there's that one song you've forgotten the title of.
5. Reverse Image Searching: http://www.tineye.com/
This is basically the same thing as above, but with pictures instead of music.
6. Make Your Own Posters: http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/
This is probably the cheapest way to make your own posters easily and affordably. I have a banner of a medic above my door.
7. Creatures: http://www.creaturespot.com/
I great collection of drawings of creatures, monsters, and whatnot, for your entertainment and inspiration. I personally love concept art.
8. Common Misconceptions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_misconceptions
Sometimes, I think that Wikipedia was designed to steal our concentration.
9. The Ultimate Star Wars Room: http://bit.ly/13STVb
Guess who's jealous. Hint: I am.
10. Knoword, the Best Vocab Game in the World: http://www.knoword.org/index.php
Day[9] can go play what he wants, but trust me, this one's better.
11. Textures: http://www.cgtextures.com/index.php?pass=true
If you for whatever reason need hi-res close ups of textures, this site has got them all, from bones to plastic to grass to wood.
12. MoodStream, for Music: http://moodstream.gettyimages.com/
Can you tell that I'm running out of things to post? Most of you use Pandora, GrooveShark, or Last.FM, but this site is good at doing what it sets out to do: establishing a mood. Plus, it comes with pictures.
13. 100 Push-ups in 6 Weeks: http://hundredpushups.com/
Yeah, so this is in the forums too, but I promise I didn't steal it. Want to be able to do 100 push-ups in 6 weeks? 200 sit-ups? Other impressive feats? This is the place to go.
14. Work Outtt: http://www.theabschallenge.com/
This is by far my favorite set of workouts. I sent you to the direct link, but this following actually has a lot more options, all of which are great. http://bit.ly/6MfX
15. How To Live (Comfortably) on $36 A Month For Food: http://bit.ly/7RmGkK
This is for the college students out there. I doubt anyone would go for such extreme methods, but hey, learn a bit here and there and it may just help you save enough for a new PC. Or for your debt. Eek.
And thus, I conclude with a very creepy picture. If you are not scared, get out of your house and become a superhero.
Have fun everyone, and thank you.
16. TeamLiquid Icons: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=16170#1
Hurry before the flying monkeys arrive. HURRY. You'll find what you need to know (to an extent) about TL's icon and rank system here.
