I really want them :O Well not mine obviously ㅋㅋㅋ, but I know HS has Mugi, Yui and Mio nendoroids. I think Ricchan and Azunyan are sold out. Nonno21 has the petits for sale (it's the beach wear version) for 9,000won each. They also have Haruhi, Lucky Star, Fate/Stay Night, Nanoha and Vocaloid petits at Nonno21. The K-On!! nendys are about 50,000 I think, but I'd need to do a check up on them at both locations. I'm going to Kukje on Thursday so I'll check for you. I need to do that stock take I promised, but it was kind of busy, and I got too hyped up to focus. I'll do it on Thursday, and report back :D @cgivisionary - Thank you for such an adorable photostory of my girls :D I'll bring some other cuties next time.

So yesterday I had planned to take Hanzo outside for some photos but by the time I was ready it got really cloudy so that was pretty unfortunate
Luckily today had very similar weather at lunch time so Hanzo and I headed off for a nice walk in search of good spots to take some photos. I think most of them turned out really nicely.
Here we go!
A couple from inside:
I'm definitely going to do more photos outside, perhaps I'll take my Touhou nendoroids out for a stroll when they arrive.
The hardest part was finding a solid spot to put her. Hanzo doesn't like staying put unless she's almost perfectly positioned. There were a few places that just didn't work out because they weren't flat enough. Some of the shots were really difficult too. I wish I was able to take more photos of different angles.
Oh and it took me ages to find my camera strap D: I had to come back once to find it because it turned out to be a real juggling act trying to manage Hanzo and the Camera while climbing barbed wire fences <_<
Still, not bad for my first time taking photos of figures outside. It was a lot of fun.

@vek: The photos turned out really nicely. I love the contrast of the background to her coloring. The details on the skirt, her hair and the face are really pretty too. It's hard not to be tempted into starting a collection of scale models now >.< I look forward to seeing your Nendy photos! I might take my girls out to the park this weekend. Any requests for specific girls? (I listed my collection before.)
My potential shopping list for Thursday has been narrowed down to;
1. Kuroshitsuji Sebastian Nendoroid. (55,000won.) 2. One of the Miku Nendoroids - probably Orchestra if she's still in stock (58,000won I think.) 3. Vocaloid and K-On puchis. (Blind boxed or possibly a full box of one if there are any for less than $100.)
BTW I wanted to make a special mention for the new series of posts on Mikatan's blog. She's currently covering the issue of Nendoroid repairs, and it's rather interesting/useful;
http://gscmikatan.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/diy-figure-repairs-part-1-broken-joints/ http://gscmikatan.wordpress.com/2011/03/28/diy-figure-repairs-part-2-reinforcing-joints/
I'm looking forward to part 3 because my Luka Megurine has a scuffed bit of hair that I'd like to repair if possible.

Nice figure!
BTW: Pro Photographer tip here.
A cloudy overcast day is actually the PERFECT conditions for outdoor portraits such as these. Pros spend 10's of thousands of dollars for studio lights that basically act like overhead clouds outside for free. Clouds diffuse the light so that you get soft diffused even light that give the subject great 3d depth and detail. All those studio shots you see of the figures could easily be shot outdoors under cloudy skies and they will be great. If it's for real people, they don't squint in the sunlight as well.
|
Hehe, thanks.
I'd love to see some photos of Nendo Saber and Ein because I think they both look really cute and have good detail ^_^
Black Rock Shooter would be great to see as well if you were considering taking a scale figure.
I had a quick read of the Nendoroid repair blog and it does seem like it will come in handy. I'm also eagerly awaiting part 3 because my Tako Luka has a scuff mark from when I dropped her (I was stupidly trying to balance her on something lol). Would be nice to fix that up.

I guess it depends how cloudy it is? When I tried yesterday (after it got cloudy) it just made all the colours look dull so I just didn't bother.
I really have no idea what I'm talking about though, I appreciate the tips. I'll try to take more photos outside to get used to what good lighting conditions are.

Okies, I'll take out Saber and Ein for sure ^_^ I'd prefer not to risk damaging BRS, so I'll make the light box and shoot her at home around the 10th-11th :D

No worries. The type of cloudy day I meant, and I should have been a bit clearer in its definition, is an overcast cloudy day. It's still bright outside, but no direct sunlight. If it looks like it's just about to pour, then it's too cloudy and then things just look lifeless as in your description. The main key is that there is no direct sunlight hitting your subject. Even under shade behind a building, or under a tree, on a sunny day is good, too. Experiment and you'll soon see what the best conditions are.

Thanks, I think I get what you mean now. I guess that's why the ones I took in the shade looked better.

I'm seconding what cgivisionary said - I always found that my photoshoots had to be moved to shaded areas when it was bright out - or not only would my subjects be uncomfortable, but the shots themselves would have a bleached out look. It also exaggerates shadows in a way that isn't always attractive. I love those overcast, but not dreary days - they're perfect for getting the right kind of light.
Randomly, today I've been looking through http://www.re-ment.co.jp/ I'm expanding my cooking scene using my two Sekirara girls (Aya and Yuu.) I think I'm going to buy the remaining 3 girls from that set (Nozomi, Mana and Izumi.) and make them into students running a cafe. (God knows how I'm going to build this cafe, but we'll see how it goes.)
Also, eeek! Goodsmile just posted these;

They're so cute, but I still think they're overpriced. They have a few of them at Nonno21, but refuse to pay over 30,000 for them. (Even if it's my beloved BRS!) Some of the K-On!! merchandise they have there is adorable, but it's just too pricey (58,000 for a t-shirt?! PASS!) I'd rather buy more nendoroids.
P.S. I was thinking of making a blog about being a figure maniac in Korea (on blogspot or something.) Just to collect everything we have here into a more organized format. Any contributions (and preferably someone who could make it look pretty!) are much appreciated.

Is being in Korea a requirement to contribute? ^^;;

Not at all :D It'd just be the focus on my posts since I'd like to give information to people who are visiting/living in Seoul who want to visit the shops, check out the prices etc. It'd be cool to have 'guest' writers from other countries.
Also any ideas for a name? The key word is 'cute' but also informative.

You're welcome. And, you're spot on with that analysis. Keep practicing. It only gets better.

I've seen posts from all over the world here. I just happen to live in South Korea at this time. Anyone with a love of our cuties is welcome.

I liked the [Figure Maniacs] tag when you used it in one of your other Blog threads.
So what about something simple like "Adventures of Figure Maniacs"?
Something more Korean or some sort of StarCraft/TeanLiquid pun would be nice too.

We decided on figuremaniacs.com :D Thank you to Vek for sorting everything out and providing us with the domain name/wordpress set up. As for contributions I was thinking of something along these lines for the content;
1. Information on Seoul figure shopping. (Guest posters can submit guides for their own cities/countries.) An online shopping guide would also be very useful. 2. A general guide to figure types. 3. Helpful posts such as 'How to Spot Fake Goods.' and 'How to maintain your figures.' etc. 4. Photo shoots. 5. Photography tips and tricks (perhaps cgivisionary as our resident expert could help out?) 6. Guest posts regarding whatever people would like to discuss/share. 7. Event trips. 8. How to Videos. (For things like repairs, modding and model kitting.) 9. A weekly round up of links to interesting articles/new products of interest etc. 10. A weekly discussion theme such as 'Your dream figure.' 'Your style of collection.' etc.
I'd like to try and at least make some of the blog bilingual so we can share it with the people at Kukje :D So I'll check around for a translator and make a separate post once the blog has a little content.
Lastly, how about a mascot?? It'd be really cute to have our own little character to identify the blog. I know some of us are artistic so lets get thinking! Something moe and unique would be really nice.

I can collaborate with editorials, figure highlight/reviews, trips (when applicable) and weekly roundups.
I presume you are going to start with posting some of the stuff already in this thread? I can start writing a better developed version of my "where to find stuff" guide.

Yes, I'm going to collate all of the information in this thread into some beginning posts, but first I want to handle the following;
1. Getting the blog layout sorted. 2. Writing a bilingual (English/Korean) introduction for the side bar. 3. Sorting our mascot (Vek is working on this.)
'I can start writing a better developed version of my "where to find stuff" guide.'
That'd be great :D

Awesome - I was thinking that it'd be good if you did an introduction post and then started off with some really basic tips/tricks for getting started such as how to choose a camera/lenses specifically for figures.
