Back with a new installment of the PCWorld eSports Update: CES 2011 notes, Patch 1.2 ponderings, and a quick Q&A with Liquid'Jinro.
[TL Blog-only stuff starts here]
So between the holidays and CES 2011, I basically had zero time to watch any pro Starcraft whatsoever. While I catch up, I figured I might as well keep the Update, well, updated with some of the stuff I saw at CES.
Highlight of the (eSports) day was kickin' it with Day[9], who is every bit as goofy in real life as he is in the show. Even though I worked with him on the DIY Screencast how-to we posted in December, I didn't get a chance to meet him until just now. As it turns out, we went to neighboring colleges. Think I was too busy playing Street Fighter to learn much about the Starcraft players next door.
Which reminds me--anyone watching the Daily lately knows he's sick. Whatever he's got, we all got too. Nasty cough right now.
I spent most of the show running around covering HDTVs (which is my *actual* job at the magazine). Big, shiny HDTVs. 3D is looking better than ever (though still not amazing) and all the Internet-connected stuff is finally shaping up into something more than "Hey guys, we can put Netflix on this thing, too!". All in all, a pretty exciting show.
By the time I got back, I realized that I had that Q&A with Jinro sitting in my inbox for at least a week. Fortunately, there wasn't anything too time-sensitive in there, and I mostly wanted to ask about the hat. He's about as wordy as those Moai statues everyone says he looks like.
