This is not a brag post - I'm looking for some inputs/criticism from creative people.
I'm doing a small webpage for myself, to show papers, ongoing projects and CV. The main "theme" (I guess is the word?) is modern AI. My skill in photoshop is very limited, and so is my creative skill - some people just got it and some doesn't :p.
Any suggestions on colors, background change, shading, etc., is appreciated. For instance I dislike innershadow on the news-posts and comments.
Site is here.

Cool, I like the layout a lot. Sorry, don't have much else to contribute, looks good

a really faint grid in the background would be cool.
Something like this, but tilable and more faint + Show Spoiler +

I agree, I would put it in the background of the div below "Home"-headline. Instead of the striped one.

Maybe you should learn about css sprites. They are really great for images used for menus. But this is about performance more than the actual deisgn.

What field/subject is this for? Is this academic?

Thanks! I'll look into it - read some of it now, looks like a nice way to optimize.

Yeah it's a bit academic - just a collection of my projects and papers. Like a portfolio, I guess.

It's standard to use Lorem Ipsum as place-holder text. http://www.lipsum.com/
Where text is visible in a document, people tend to focus on the textual content rather than upon overall presentation, so publishers use lorem ipsum when displaying a typeface or design elements and page layout in order to direct the focus to the publication style and not the meaning of the text.[2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorem_ipsum

The day I use my time on useless Lorem ipsum, instead of hammering my head to the keyboard for filler, is the day I stop studying AI .

It's a project manager. I stopped doing it a year ago - it's basicly like any upload sites, but you can invite users share files, reserve files if you are editing, etc. I was also implementing a function to edit online, without downloading the .docx files and opening it with word/open office... buuuuuuut that's a big long project that never got finished 100%.

Should try to get an animated navigation bar. I'm not entirely sure how that would work, but I have a feeling it could look amazing if done right.
I don't like Grunge text that much, especially as the theme text. Have you tried other fonts?

I agree, this is a bit too high-school for a portfolio site. The header is the only real issue (I assume the post robot image is default); I'd recommend getting someone more graphically inclined to whip up something minimalist and somewhat sleek rather than grungy and industrial for the header. This guy could be removed entirely, and you could let the logo image capture that space instead (or maybe you guys use a better navigation system, I'm not a fan of the top-oriented style).
Also, give the text formatting to break it up. Headlines shouldn't be the same font/size as the body text.
Finally, I'd also add a footer of some sort, and then start thinking about a color scheme other than grey and more grey.
Good luck!
