So, there's this girl that's really lovely and sort of likes me and I sort of like her.
When I have a crush on a girl I tend to devise sophisticated plans how to make her happy. They tend to work out pretty well, mostly because of me being oh so charming and creative and everything.
So, I've got a plan but I need some help. Being a girl, she likes dancing. Being a guy, my idea of dancing consists of circle-pitting, stage-diving, crowd-surfing, ninja-jumping and so on.
My usual field for dancing.
The Plan.
Yep, I want to dance with this girl on a Björk song. To be able to do this, I have to:
Identify the two most suitable types of dance (for the slower and faster part)
Learn how to dance
Arrange everything else
I am confident in accomplishing point 2 and point 3 but am stuck on 1 at the moment. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Aw cute! Take a class or two! They aren't very expensive, and since you're already going through so much trouble, it shouldn't really be out of your price range. I'm pretty sure a real live dance teacher could help you more than any amount of semi-anonymous internet-types. Good luck, and follow up on the plan please!
I think jazz / tango dance fits the best for the whole song. No need to split it up into slow/fast parts imo - take lessons! No point in looking online on how to dance these styles
I am considering taking lessons seriously; however, I may have a really great opportunity to organise everything next week and I want to do my best to be ready for it anyway. So I'll probably get another girl the help me with the moves as soon as I have decided what to do exactly.
XDawn what type of jazz/tango do you have in mind? What I've come up with so far is some sort of a waltz for the slow part and swing for the quicker, but if there's something fitting for both it would be awesome.
I like that Bjork song you posted, it's pretty catchy (except the screaming parts....those are kinda scary...o_o) I think XDawn is right; though the song has it's faster and slower parts, the overall mood is the same, and you can go at it with one style of dance (of course, plan the steps/moves accordingly to the faster and slower parts to give it a better appearance). Also, the jazz/tango style fits this song well, maybe throw in some ballroom/swing stuff as well?
Briefly looking into styles of dance, I guess I meant more of a Samba and Tango dance - though afaik these days, Samba today isn't like the original Samba from Brazil anymore - but definitely you should check out Samba. It has a lot of. . flavor, very groovy and funky - fun to listen and dance to!
Check out a lot of musicals too, whether you see a MOVIE musical (like chicago, etc.) or actually on stage at a nearby theatre - not only will it help you expand your knowledge of what you're looking for but just overall general POV on life as well. I can't really say I have any credentials to back anything up but I also dance (bboy), and while I only dance this one style, I tend to manifest and LEARN a lot of other styles into my own as well
Don't stick with only learning 1 style of dance. Learn many! Samba / Ballroom / Jazz / Tango, and mix it all together into your own way of dancing! Don't restrict yourself!
The only thing I'm not sure of. . .say you learn this dance. How do you know your girl will also know how to?
Well, I don't expect it to be a complicated dance with good choreography. This is why I am looking for something specific instead of different types of dance in general. She's probably a terrible dancer but I don't see this to be a problem as well. I just know that this would make her happy, so I want to do it.
Honestly I think the cliche moves that you see in the media and whatnot actually works - as long as your both having fun, it shouldn't really matter what kind of dance you're doing. Honestly - just get used to grooving, as these are the basic steps for all types of dance.
Try not to think in a systematic way if you know what I mean
Just. . make sure you don't look down all the time, keep your focus on her
