Ok, so I've been playing a lot of 2v2s cuz i dont have the motivation to play 1v1 (LOL im so bad) and I swear sky protoss is so strong. and i don't mean the weak mass void rays either, but having 6-8 speed rays with lots of chargelots (or 6 phoenix, 4 speed rays vs zerg) has become my favorite build! :D
i want to try it out on ladder, but im scared i'll just lose because people at my level (rank 68 platinum! woo noob in the house xD) are just hyper agressive.
I'm making this blog to see if other sky protoss fans have found a build that can get that amount of void rays (which isnt a whole lot really, not mass) and yet can withstand early pressure. I usually get a gateway then a core and a stargate then another stargate and a 2nd gate. Is that an acceptable way to open for sky protoss in 1v1? or should i 3 gate expo before starting stargates?
and i'm not talking bout guineapig's build either as that is so vulnerable to early pressure. So if any of you guys have some good pro-tips, please share them. If you don't have pro-tips but want to scream about your sky protoss love, i'd welcome that too xD
however if you want to whine about imba imba voidrays so nerfed. then please take it elsewhere.

Why not just add them to your army in the midgame? Try to get out of the mind set that you need to get a particular combination of units immediately. Instead imagine how you will play the early game to put yourself into a position where you will be able to safely add void rays. Perhaps off 2-3 base.

Just make sure you're always maintaining cycles from your gateways and you should be able to hold off anything early game cheese-wise (with proper scouting). If you're going for a stargate build that isn't meant for harassment I find that 3gate robo (expanding on the back of that) and dropping two stargates right before the expo pops works well as you can get the obs out, determine if stargate will be viable, and have time to respond to anything coming at you. Mass marine/ling/hydra/roach > collosi, mass mara/roach/mech > stargate. In mirror PvP I don't even bother doing anything other than 4gate (hold off their crap) into tech path of my choice.
I think people get into this mind set that b/c they dropped a robo they need to go collosi b/c that's their chosen tech path. But going double stargate/robo as opposed to double robo/collosi bay is actually cheaper.
Edit: To expound on Chef's point, stargate play off of one base is way too risky imo. He's right, get an expo up safely and THEN work on the tech paths beyond your initial 4gate/3gate robo
Edit 2: lol com changed to ex

Agreed, it is definitely viable off of 2 base. Going 1 base air is asking to get run over. Safely expand behind a solid build and then add your SG's and pump out your desired mix of air.

For a second i thought you were talking about (GSL R064 SPOILER AHEAD!) + Show Spoiler + Game 1 of GuineaPig vs Junwi where GP used a void ray / pheonix combo to desimate Junwi's lingroach
Yes, sky protoss can be powerful in groups of 4 or more, but solo or duo air units are actually pretty weak. This is odd for protoss units, who should be individually powerful for a higher cost.
As a response to the actual question, usually something like this is good, 2 stargates on one base doesn't really work though. After 2 gateways and 1 stargate you need to expand. After you expand you can have 5 gates and 1 stargate or 4 gateways and 2 stargates. (EG BO) + Show Spoiler + 9 pylon 12 gateway 14 assimilator 15 pylon 16 zealot 18 core 19 gas 21 gateway 21 zealot 23 pylon 24 stargate
This is just an example, probably not the most efficent but it is a way to get to stargate tech with decent speed.
1v1s, if people are being agressive, don't FE. Be offensive even more. The best defence is a good offence. Keep massing zealots,

Scout properly and the GuineaPig aerial assault won't be beaten by early pressure.
